Victory in the battle of Vicksbur numerous attempts to break during the surrounding military were crushed back. On July 4, 1863, the southerners decided to surrender the city and fortress to Grant. This act opened the last Confederate strong point on the Mississippi River, and made the river on hand for Union troops and supplies. g gave power to the Union Because the Mississippi River was the like a highway at that time, they used to transport goods, crops, raw materials, etc. from the south to the North and visa-versa. And on the same day The victory at Gettysburg and the victory at Vicksburg were announced in newspapers. This double victory encouraged northerners and made many think that the war could be won.

Americans During the Civil War

Camp life

Life for the Union Army was hard but it was much better the the confederacy camp life, the union had better supplies and food and better shelter and medical necessities. Soldiers during their break time used to sit and chill and write letters for their family back home telling them how much they is them and that they doing fine. Solders had everything they could have and need, the union had better weapon then the confederacy and the union also has less death rate then the confederacy. They wore blue uniforms. if a solder tried to leave the army they would kill him! so there is no escape, every solder have to serve for two years. it was very hard for the family to let the solders leave.. but it was for a good cause and the women stayed behind and prayed god that he will return their mans back safely. when the men left to serve women's took over and started working and provided clothes and food and helping the army as much as possible. durning the civil war life was really hard weather they were near or far the battle field.

The Aftermath of the Civil War

Effects of the War

The Civil War effected every American life, weather he was white or a solder or black or a housewife, it was tough and depressing. the death rate was really high, the economy changed. the civil war resulted that it was afterwards written into law that no state can depart the Union; the South was almost destroyed; the majority of slaves were freed (those who were in the Confederate states); afterwards blacks were awarded citizenship; the South became industrialized after the war with the arrival of the Yankee carpetbaggers; and the old antebellum, plantation based South basically wiped off the map. The federal government at this time ranked supreme, and put an end to the proposal of secession. The federal government could now dominate southern legislation. It provided a chance for the grown of the transcontinental railroad. This combined most of the country.
