We wanted to share the culture with the audience

- Professor Ping Fu

With autumn in the air, Chinese students braved the stage at Virginia Tech and Preston hall last week to sing the famous Chinese poem Jing Ye Si in honor of the Mid-Autumn festival. Learning Chinese for only three weeks, I applaud the courage to get on stage. Professor Ping Fu said. The audiences were made up of many native

Chinese speakers, so students had to really practice before the performance. The poem that was sung is a famous and well known poem by native Chinese people. It is about sentiment and thinking of home and loved ones. We circled around the theme of the Midautumn festival. We wanted to share the culture with the audience. There are many legends about it, but we shared one of them, the most beautiful.

JENNIFER WERNER

Pi Sigma Epsilon, the national co-ed fraternity, made its way onto the Radford campus this year. As a sales, marketing, and management fraternity, this organization has gained popularity over the course of the last 60 or so years. Founded in 1951 at Georgia State University, Pi Sigma Epsilon has over 70 chapters nationwide. Through extensive planning over the past year, the Zeta Sigma chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon had its first initiation ceremony this past Tuesday, September 27, 2011, in the Bonnie. With 20 members in Radfords chapter, senior Christin Lockhart became the founding president. According to the Zeta Sigma chapter website, PSEs goal is to provide collegiate students with practical business experience through sales, sales projects, marketing, marketing research and community service projects. Students attended interest meetings over the course of the last year to prepare for the new fraternity. Those that attended the interest meetings did not have to pledge this semester. However, Students will have to pledge starting next semester and the pledging process will be similar to the Greek life pledging process. It will include a formal rush period, said Lockhart If interested in joining Pi Sigma Epsilon, contact Christin Lockhart at ctlockar@radford.edu or check out the Zeta Sigma chapter website at pseradford.weebly.com.

Campus Quote:
We believe the local Registrars procedures are discriminatory and unlawful and have resulted in hundreds of students being unable to register and vote in Radford. The Registrar is not entitled to presume that students are not really citizens of Radford and to place discriminatory requirements upon students attempting to register and vote in their community,

When a student moves to attend college, it is common to think that you live in two places, home and school. As a result, many do not change their address with the post ofce, DMV, or IRS to indicate their school address. They also assume that listing an address different from their parents address will affect their dependency status, eligibility for nancial aid or other family plans such as health insurance, car insurance, or phone plans. These are incorrect assumptions as a students eligibility is related to age and the legal relationship to parent/guardian gures. This causes students a number of potential problems, with voting being the most widespread. According to IRS Regulations under Internal Revenue Code Section 121, If a taxpayer alternates between 2 properties, using each as a residence for successive periods of time,

Rising cost of tuition leaves students in debt

Every year, colleges raise their tuition costs and every year, students or their parents must put that extra dent into their savings or take out that extra bank loan. About twenty years ago, Radfords semester tuition rates for 12-18 instate credit hours were $1,064 while out-of-state was $2,064. Ten years later, the universitys in-state tuition remained in the $1,000s being raised by only $380, while the out-of-state tuition grew to a much larger $4,321. By the 2009-2010 academic year, in-state tuition rates reached nearly $3,500 while out-of-state was raised to over $8,000 a semester. Financial aid awards students a sum of money that can go toward tuition and living expenses with the rule that it needs be paid back after graduation. If you attend graduate school, however, nancial aid does not need
