(Apple) is an American multinational corporation that designs, manufactures and markets a range of personal computers, mobile communication and media devices and portable digital music player, and sells a range of related software, services, peripherals, networking solutions, and third-party digital content and applications. The companys products and services include Macintosh (Mac) computers, iPhone, iPad, iPod, Apple TV, Xserve, a portfolio of consumer and professional software applications, the Mac OS X and iOS operating systems, third-party digital content and applications through the iTunes Store, and a range of accessory, service and support offerings. The company sells its products globally through its retail stores, online stores, and direct sales force and third-party cellular network carriers, wholesalers, retailers, and valueadded resellers. In addition, the company sells a range of third-party Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod compatible products, including application software, printers, storage devices, speakers, headphones, and various other accessories and peripherals, through its online and retail stores. The company sells to consumer, small and mid-sized business (SMB), education, enterprise, government and creative markets. As of September 25, 2010, the company had opened a total of 317 retail stores, including 233 stores in the United States and 84 stores internationally. Apple was established on 1 April 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne in Cupertino, California and incorporated on 3 January 1977 without Wayne, who sold his share of the company back to Steve Jobs and Wozniak for $800. The company was previously named Apple Computer Inc. for its first 30 years but removed the word Computer on January 2007 to reflect the companys ongoing expansion into the consumer electronics market. Mr. Steven P. Jobs, Steve co-founded Apple Inc. (formerly, Apple Computer Inc.) in 1976 and served as its Chief Executive Officer from 2000 to August 24, 2011. Mr. Jobs served as an Advisor to Apple on a limited basis and served as its Interim Chief Executive Officer from 1997 to 2000. Mr. Jobs co-founded Pixar, Inc. in 1986 and served as its Chief Executive Officer since February 1986. Mr. Jobs co-founded NeXT Software Inc. and served as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer from October 1985 to February 1997. Mr. Jobs served as Chairman of the Board of Apple Inc. from August 24, 2011 to October 5, 2011 and served as its Director from 1997 to October 5, 2011. Mr. Jobs served as Chairman and Director of Pixar since March 1991 and February 1986, respectively. He served as a Director of Walt Disney Co. from May 2006.
