Why We Need To Be Filled

With The Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:9-25

This week I would like to look at why we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

God wants to do something with us and that is to change us from the inside out.

We are all born with a sinful nature; which looks out for what is best for itself and cares
only about its own desires. (The way we talk, act, think, feel)

Romans 8:5-8

Two ways to live

1. Holy Spirit, PLEASING to God.
2. Flesh, can never please God.

With this in mind let’s continue with verses 9-11

Romans 8:9-11

No longer controlled by
1. Our sinful nature. (sometimes, might, you are NOT)

We are controlled by the Holy Spirit who is

1. God in us.
2. Who is Christ in us?

God has given us a new life and we are to live out this new life with and through the
power of the Holy Spirit.
1. Received the Holy Spirit when we believed.
2. Now we are to be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
a) So his life would manifest in us.
b) Proving He is alive.
c) He is continuing His ministry through us.
As we allow the Holy Spirit rule in our lives (JESUS) we will see the power of Jesus
working through and in our lives.

Romans 8:12-13

We have no obligation
1. To live in our sinful nature.
a. I can’t help it gossip, prone, lying, lusting, cussing etc.

Paul tells us when our sinful nature urges us rebuke it.

Once a drug addict always a drug addict, lair, theft, alcoholic, mess around, you can
continue to fill in the blanks.

Why did God just clear my memory of the life?

We are often deceived in thinking that the flesh gives us life.

1. Self-satisfaction.
2. Money/friends/homes/cars.
3. Give me, give me, give me, the flesh will never be satisfy.

Living this way will kill us

1. Physically.
2. Spiritually.

If you a struggling with your old nature it’s time to make a complete commitment to the
Lord. Baptism with the Holy Spirit.

When we submit to the power of the Holy Spirit, He places a new desire in us.
This desire reveals our identity, so now we have a new identity.

Romans 8:14-16

Our identity is children of God

1. Purified and Sanctify by the blood of Jesus.
2. Are you going to walk around wondering cowering. (Maui)
3. We are to walk with the power and the attitude of Royalty.
a. Don’t worry about your past. (Roman custom)
b. Abba “Father” Daddy.
4. You don’t have to wonder if you are a child of God, you
know it.

Romans 8:17-18

Our inheritance
1. Everything that was given to HIS Son.
2. The suffering is persecution. Just for standing for what is right.

Romans 8:19-22

All creation is waiting

1. Everything was thrown out of balance. The Garden.
2. Isaiah 11:6-9 Prophesy of the future.
3. The promise of God’s glory isn’t just for the child of God.

Romans 8:23
His glory
1. We too are waiting for the day we will receive the whole rights given to us by
God including the new bodies He promised us.
2. Child birth.

The child of God stays focus on the Goal. Philippians 3:14,

1 Corinthians 9.

Romans 8:24-25

Waiting patiently and confidently for Who?

1. The One that gives us new life.
2. The One that gives us a new desire.
3. New hope.
4. A new Identity.
5. The One that has sealed us with the Holy Spirit.

So why do we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit? It is the power of God given to us to
witness that Jesus Christ is Lord rendering us a victorious people.
