2. ShopTurn
2.1. Field of application
ShopTurn is a custom-tailored technology package for all standard CNC turning machines with machining slide used worldwide. The main purpose of these machines is to manufacture individual parts, and for small to mid-scale production runs. ShopTurn offers user-friendly machine tool operation particularly designed for skilled workers. All operator input is supported by graphic help screens. The functions in manual mode allow fast, workshop-oriented setting up of the machine for processing. In particular, this refers to determining the workpiece position in the machine as well as maintenance and dimensioning of the tools in use.
ShopTurn offers two different programming options. The DIN/ISO editor (see Section 4.7) is used for writing DIN/ISO programs on the machine as well as for correcting externally created DIN/ISO programs. The graphic ShopTurn editor (see Section 4.8) is used for operating step programming (option) on the machine.
To sum up, ShopTurn Version 6.4 allows you to configure controllers in a uniform manner and easily expand the configuration later without needing to recommission the machine.
Simple, straight-forward operator interface for all machine functions DIN/ISO programming on the machine or offline via CAD/CAM system ShopTurn operating step programming (option) Execution of externally created CNC programs (CAD/CAM systems) Measuring functions The advantage for the OEM: One control system for global use!
Page 5
ShopTurn is particularly suitable for the following machine types: 1. Single-slide turning machines with X and Z axis Turning operations Machining center holes 2. Like 1.) with rotating tools (C axis mode) All drilling and milling on the end face and peripheral surface 3. Like 1.) with additional Y axis All drilling and milling on the end face and peripheral surface 4. Like 1.), 2.) or 3.) with additional counterspindle
ShopTurn supports the following types of kinematics: 1. Inclined-bed machine, machining behind the turning center 2. Vertical turning machines 3. Flat-bed turning machines, machining in front of the turning center
ShopTurn displays the following axes in the main screens of the machine modes. X, Z, Y and Z2 counterspindle axis Main and counterspindle, tool drive It is therefore necessary for the machine manufacturer to configure the display of additional axes separately.
If ShopTurn is to be used on machines that are not listed above, please contact the product manager at our head office to clarify the technical boundary conditions.

Tool probe
You can connect a touch-trigger probe (tool-eye) in the ShopTurn basic configuration to determine the tool geometries (length and diameter) in setup mode. For connection requirements and probe configuration, please refer to the ShopTurn Description of Functions.
4.3.
4.3.1.
Tool management
Tool list
In general the tool list has a greater capacity than the tool-holding magazine (turret) in the machine, i.e. you can also manage tools that are not set up in the turret. This allows you to access the tool data again for machining at a later time. Please note that increasing the number of tool will decrease the available part program memory in the CNC.
It is necessary to set up the tool management function included in the basic configuration. Please use the examples provided in the ShopTurn tool box.
The machine manufacturer can set the maximum possible number tools in the tool list.
Page 14
Work offsets
Number of work offsets
ShopTurn can administer up to 99 independent work offsets. The number of work offsets is set by the machine manufacturer.
4.4.2.
Fine offsets
In addition to coarse offsets, ShopTurn also supports the use of fine offsets. These fine offsets are particularly useful in combination with automatic measuring cycles. The differences in dimensions determined during measurement are entered in the fine offsets. Display for fine offsets is activated by the machine manufacturer.

Basic block display is for displaying motion blocks in machining cycles. The ShopTurn work schedule is converted to G1/G2/G3 blocks (see Fig.: Basic block display). In addition to the current block, previously executed blocks and blocks to come are displayed. The basic block display is particularly useful when test running programs with machining cycles in single block mode. The basic block display is effective for all cycles (standard machining cycles, ShopTurn cycles, manufacturer cycles) and can therefore be used in DIN/ISO programs and ShopTurn operating step programs.
Basic block display is a display function only and not a post-processor. The displayed DIN/ISO blocks cannot be converted for use in a CNC program.
Page 19
The "Simultaneous recording" function serves for optical display of machine movements during machining (see Fig.: Simultaneous recording).
6FC5463-0GA12-0AA0
The simultaneous recording function visualizes a large part of the motion commands of the SINUMERIK 810D/840D (limitation: splines, polynomials). This means that both DIN/ISO programs and ShopTurn operating step programs can be displayed.
