r an investor Financial Planning and investment advising is a growing career option and proven proficiency in the same can be harnessed by the student to procure a good placement after the MBA program. This assignment aims to aid the student in this process. Students who are able to achieve a high return on their portfolios can use this report at the time of interviews to impress the interviewer.

1. Each

student will be manage Rs.10 lakhs (fictional only!!). 2. He/She will receive this Rs.10 lakhs on the 1st of September and will manage it till the 30th of September. 3. The aim of the exercise is to maximize the return for the investor. 4. The student will invest in equity shares, gold and mutual fund instruments. The student will choose which equity shares/mutual funds to invest in, their proportion in the portfolio and the period for which invested in. 5. By the evening of the 1st of September, students will mail to me their portfolio composition and explanation for their portfolio choices. They can choose to invest all in equity/mutual funds/gold with justification thereof. 6. Through the month, he/she can shuffle the portfolio or choose not to do anything. Every time they sell or buy, an email to that effect should reach me. The email should contain action, price of security, volume etc. 7. Simultaneously, a written report/diary should be maintained by them to track the changes. The email and the report should contain documentary evidence about the prices of the securities traded. 8. For purposes of simplicity, we will assume no transaction costs such as brokerage/commission/taxes etc. 9. On evening of 30th September, students will calculate the value of their portfolio and the return generated and email me. 10. A report should be prepared detailing all the actions taken, the justification thereof and the ultimate return earned. 11. The student who achieves the highest return will get a prize and will also speak to the class about his/her strategies. 12. 1. This is a group project. Students will form groups of 4


each. They can choose their group members.

2. They have to prepare a research report of an industry. The

report will analyse the industry- do a SWOT, study strategies, brands, USPs, problem areas, company comparisons, financials, growth areas and future trends etc. 3. They will then analyse individual companies in the industry and recommend investment action (BUY, SELL, HOLD) in them. They will determine best performers, average performers and laggards. 4. The group can choose their industry out of the ones listed. They will be expected to visit the offices of the Companies, people in the supply chain, customers, distributors/ dealers etc. 5. The students should prepare a questionnaire of issues for a structured interview. This will be helpful for both the students and the person being met. 6. The students will prepare a summary of their meeting and submit it along with the report. They will also attach the visiting card/s of the people met. 7. There will be a presentation by the group on their report. For the presentation - rules for formal wear will follow. Boys to wear a plain white/striped on a white background full sleeve shirt with a tie on a black/blue trouser with formal footwear. Girls to wear Indian/western formals with minimal bling. 8. The date for submission of the report shall be intimated to the students atleast 15 days in advance. Late submissions will not be accepted. Please submit both hard copies and soft copies for assessment purposes to studentservices@skylinecollege.com and anitasinghal@gmail.com. 9. Date for presentation will be intimated to the students giving 7 days notice. 10. This assignment will carry 15% weightage for assessment purposes.
