Zeta Level Reading/Writing By the end of Zeta Level, the student should be able to successfully and consistently: + Objectives Understand and produce the English alphabet verbally and in writing. Understand and write complete simple sentences about oneself; ones family; ones environment; ones interests; daily routines and events; and topics related to personal life. Formulate and respond to (in writing) simple (yes/no and wh-) questions to obtain or provide basic information about time, place, people, things, or ideas in a reading text. Comprehend and identify information from very basic short (e.g. one paragraph) texts and identify main idea and specic details of texts. Use, understand and increase vocabulary frequently used in reading and writing in level-appropriate narrative texts. (Emphasis on prepositions, conjunctions, and everyday objects.) Correct own spelling and check simple punctuation and basic sentence word order. Objectives Write multiple simple and compound sentences about people and about things including details such as their country, their culture, and their accomplishments and future expectations; Read and understand/identify the main idea and/or specic details in simplied texts (one-three paragraph) and short stories. Respond appropriately in writing to moderately complex written or oral classroom instructions. Formulate and respond to open-ended and interview questions and summarize the answers on a variety of topics. Use, understand and increase vocabulary frequently used in workplace emails and resumes for job applications. Correct own spelling and basic sentence word order;check simple punctuation. Demonstrate accurate spelling for at least three hundred common English words.

Theta Level Reading/Writing By the end of Theta Level, the student should be able to successfully and consistently:
Objectives Write multiple paragraphs with a clear topic and supporting details to relate/narrate a sequence of events or tell a story; to describe a person, object, scene, picture, procedure or routine; to compare and contrast; or to explain reasons. Read and comprehend news reports and stories on general everyday topics and take notes. Understand and use simple idea relationship such as comparison and contrast and simple cause-effect relationship in sentences and short texts. Organize ideas and details into coherent paragraphs and use simple connection words/phrases between sentences and paragraphs. Use, understand and increase vocabulary frequently used in reading and writing level-appropriate narrative texts. Use process writing techniques such as basic editing and proofreading to correct own spelling and check simple punctuation and basic sentence word order.
