Unveiling The Witness To The Light
Reflections for your week :

There is only one hope that our darkened and sin stained world has
and that is God in Christ - let us view all our trials and circumstances in
light of our ultimate hope.
We need to be available to be used by God
not as the light - but to point others to the light Jesus Christ - just as
John the Baptist was not the light but pointed to Jesus Christ the true
light of the world. Go out and tell others of Jesus Christ.
We are to
speak plainly, boldly, and with all truth - we are not to water down our
message, but we are to present it the way God’s Word presents it.

John was a humble man, though he had a great role to play, he was
overshadowed by Christ and in obedience and joy he gave way to His
master. We too must humble ourselves before Christ and not
overshadow Christ in all that we do. C3 is not about ‘US’ or ‘YOU’ or
‘ME’ - it is all about Jesus Christ and the proclamation His glorious
salvation.
John the Baptist had a special purpose given to him by
God, who sent him to His people - he was to be a WITNESS TO THE
LIGHT. May we be truth bearers this week, and every day as the Lord
sends us out to be His witnesses.
The Unveiling Of The Unfathomable

Have you ever noticed that you thought you had a handle or grasp of
some concept or way of thinking, only to find out that you really did not?
Over the years as a Christian my understanding is constantly being
revamped. Each year is a discovery of new things that clarify or change
my thinking radically. You see, because we are finite beings, it is
impossible for us to see the whole picture unless God in His grace
enables us to see it. The easiest way to see this illustrated is if we think
back about our own salvation and how things radically changed in our
thinking after that time. Before salvation, we were dead in trespasses
and sin and unable to perceive the truth. Now, it is a day-by-day
advancement in our thinking as the Word of God transforms us – it is
working to conform us to the image of Christ.
Can you imagine what it must have been like for the Old Testament saint
as time progressed and things were not as they seemed. Prophecies were
proclaimed and as these unfolded and thus validated their
pronouncement, the thinking of the OT saint had to be radically changed
in order for them to see God’s unfolding plan and purpose.
This is what we have before us today – (what some commentators call)
an excursus that further explains God’s plan and purpose. We are seeing
past fulfillment of prophecy before our eyes. The validation of the Word
of God is necessary in our understanding in order for us to come up to
speed with God, who needs no validation, yet we are flesh and therefore
finite and thus need clarification. But, this is really no excursus at all as
some affirm. It is all part of the clarifying to us the plan and purpose of
God. All who read and study the Bible know the prophecy of Isaiah 40:3
– “A voice is calling, "Clear the way for the Lord in the wilderness; Make
smooth in the desert a highway for our God.” But no one but God knew
who that person would be. Now we know that it was John the Baptist!
He was part of the plan of God purposed to proclaim the Messiah, the
Lord Jesus Christ. This was not done in a secret corner, but within broad
public evidence pointing out specifically the promised Messiah – and,
yet, some were unable to perceive Him.
Oh, the grace of God, that He would make such a proclamation, that He
would make it so obvious to all, that Messiah is come! Following the
footsteps of John the Baptist, we too must preach Christ to all. It is
obvious that He is the Savior of the world, yet we do not know who will
believe it. We are Christ’s witness to a lost and dying world. John was
the public validation that Christ was the true Light coming into the world
to enlighten every man.
Have you been enlightened? Do you see that Jesus Christ is come into
the world to save sinners such as you from the condemnation and wrath
of God? Or are you content, comfortable, and smug in your non-existing
sovereignty, having no control over anything, not even eventual death, in
which after, it is too late to be delivered from condemnation and wrath?
May God speak to your heart today if you are not a Christian. If you are a
Christian, may you be encouraged and strengthened for your walk with
Christ and your work of the ministry. May you see that God in His
sovereignty rules in your life.
