INCLINING EXPERIMENT PROCEDURE
1. The inclining experiment shall be carried throughout in a favourable weather and sea condition. The vessel shall be arranged as near to lightship as possible. Whenever possible, all items onboard not intended for lightship shall be removed overboard, otherwise they shall be positioned at vessels centreline and their weights, LCGs, and VCGs shall be assessed and recorded. All items for the lightship that were not installed, shall be placed onboard the vessel at their respective position and temporary secured if required, otherwise they shall be assessed and recorded. All bilges shall be dried. Wherever practicable, all other tanks and void spaces onboard shall be either 100% full or completely dried. Prior to the start of the experiment, all tanks with their contents shall be sounded and recorded, and all other emptied tanks shall be opened for inspection. The number of personnel onboard shall be kept to the minimum and their respective positions recorded. No personnel onboard shall be allowed to move transversely across the vessel when taking the draft marks and pendulum deflection readings. Whenever possible, all personnel onboard shall position themselves at the vessels centreline before the readings were taken. All mooring ropes shall be slackened such that the vessel floats freely when taking readings. Draft readings and their locations shall be recorded prior to the start of the experiment. It is recommended that at least five freeboard readings, approximately equally spaced, be taken on each side of the vessel or that all draft marks (forward, midship and aft) be read on each side of the vessel. Where draft marks are used for the measurement, the draft marks shall be verified by surveyor prior to the inclining experiment. A plot of heeling moments versus tangent of heeling angles should be verified by the surveyor. If the results are not satisfactory, the surveyor may request that the experiment be repeated. The specific gravity of the seawater shall be recorded prior to the start of the experiment. The estimated total inclining weights is 8 tonnes and they shall be placed onboard on the main deck. They shall be divided into four groups; two groups, B & A, shall be placed on port side and two other groups, D & C, shall be placed on starboard side. They shall be placed as near to the handrail as possible to give the maximum transverse spread, and in staggered position, so that the weights can be moved transversely across the beam of the vessel. Their initial positions shall be marked on the main deck with chalk and their weights, LCGs, and VCGs shall be recorded. When returning the weights after shifting, they shall be placed onto their original marked position.

Two pendulums shall be arranged at or near the vessels centreline, the forward pendulum at Fr.42.5 on main deck and the aft pendulum at Fr.5 on the main deck. Length of the pendulums shall be at least 5.50 metres long. The suspended bobs shall be immersed in a trough of mixture of dirty oil and seawater. A third means of measuring the inclination is recommended in case of marked differences in the measurements of two pendulums. Care shall be exercised when taking pendulum deflection readings that the bob must be freely suspended from resting or touching the bottom of the trough, and the string from resting or touching on the marking batten or adjacent walls or protruding objects. The anticipated pendulum deflections are 0.918 and 1.836 degrees respectively for the first two shifts. The anticipated maximum deflection is 176 mm. The initial list of the vessel shall not exceed 0.5 degrees and the trim shall be maintained at less than 1 percent of the LBP. Trim by bow shall be avoided. The depth of the water under the hull shall be sufficient to ensure that the hull is entirely free at the bottom at maximum inclination.
