This innovative project is the combined work of specific research and development of the framework of a saddle by ZALDI and the Fundacin para la Investigacin y Desarrollo en Transporte y Energa (CIDAUT) -Foundation for the Investigation and Development in Transport and Energy- based on the injecting of thermoplastic materials.

As, gracias a la utilizacin de materiales termoplsticos conseguimos que la armadura de la silla se ajuste tanto a la anatoma del caballo como a la del propio jinete. De igual forma, el empleo de estos materiales permite eliminar los refuerzos metlicos, ganando incluso mayor resistencia y favoreciendo la flexibilidad de la armadura. La investigacin permanente nos ha permitido conseguir una mejora global en la calidad de la armadura: montaje ms rpido y fcil, reduccin de peso y optimizacin del diseo buscando el mejor equilibrio entre flexibilidad y comodidad de la montura. Esta lucha por la innovacin y por la superacin en nuestros productos nos ha permitido trabajar directamente con la Fundacin para la Investigacin y Desarrollo en Transporte y Energa alcanzando una gran variedad de soluciones, tanto de diseo como de caractersticas mecnicas en los modelos de sillas de montar a travs del empleo de materiales termoplsticos.

So, thanks to the use of thermoplastic materials, we ensure that the saddle tree fits both the horses anatomy and that of the rider. Also, the use of these materials allows us to eliminate the metal reinforcements, giving it even more resistance and contributing to the trees flexibility. Permanent investigation has allowed us to achieve a global improvement in the tree quality: faster and easier assembly, reduction of weight and optimisation of the design, looking for the best balance between rigidity and comfort in the saddle. The tree is the main piece for any variety of saddle. It can be said that it is the saddles heart. When a person buys a saddle, he usually pays attention to the external part (the leather, its quality, its colour) when, although it is important, it cannot be compared with the importance of the tree. The tree is the piece that separates the rider from the horse. Its function is to place the rider in the right position, more comfortably and correctly depending on the riding variety (ex. Imagine yourself jumping with a cowboy saddle, or making dressage with a raid saddle) In the majority of the varieties (except raid and mountain) the tree must have some elasticity (more or less 10%). This help to disperse our weight over the horses back. But the tree must not be 100% elastic (ex: to join the front part with the back one), because then a friction point is created, cutting the horses blood circulation in the middle of the spinal column. (see pages 8 and 9 about trees).

La armadura es la pieza fundamental para cualquier modalidad de silla de montar. Podemos decir que es el corazn de la silla, normalmente cuando compramos una silla nos fijamos en la parte exterior (en el cuero, si es mejor o peor, el color) cuando, an siendo importante no tiene ni comparacin con la importancia de la armadura. La armadura es la pieza que separa al jinete del caballo. Tiene la misin de colocar al jinete en la posicin correcta, ms cmoda y adecuada dependiendo de la modalidad hpica, (ej: imagnese saltando en una silla vaquera, o haciendo doma clsica en una silla de raid), en la mayora de las disciplinas (excepto raid y montaa) la armadura debe tener cierta elasticidad (aprox. 10%) esto ayuda a dispersar nuestro peso sobre los lomos del caballo. pero la armadura nunca debe ser 100% elstica (ej: unir la parte delantera con la trasera) ya que lo que creamos es un punto de friccin; cortando la circulacin del caballo en la mitad de la columna vertebral (ver pginas 8 y 9 sobre las armaduras).

La estribera es la pieza donde colocamos la acin de estribo (correa que sujeta el estribo y donde ir colocado nuestro pie), parte fundamental en la colocacin del jinete ya que si esta adelantada o atrasada puede descolocar su posicin correcta. Es muy importante que sean de seguridad, porque en caso de accidente la acin de estribo puede soltarse y no quedarnos estribados (en raid normalmente se utiliza estribo cerrado de seguridad en vez de estribera). The steel stirrup bar is the piece where we put the stirrup leather (strap that holds the stirrup and where we put our foot). It is a very important part in the positioning of the rider, because if it is Estribera de situated forward or backward it may misplace his right position. The seat is the saddles part where the rider sits, so it must be very comfortable. The seat is made of rubber foam of two different densities, specific to the riders comfort. Besides, the seat arranges the base of our spinal column, so it is vital in order to avoid back injuries (riding is good for the back, it is damaging just when the collocation of the riders back is not right).

El asiento es la parte de la silla donde el jinete va sentado, por lo que debe ser muy cmodo. El asiento est hecho de dos gomas latex de diferentes densidades, especial para la comodidad del jinete. Adems el asiento coloca la base de nuestra columna vertebral, por lo que es muy importante para evitar lesiones en la espalda (montar a caballo es bueno para la espalda, slo es perjudicial cuando la colocacin de la espalda del jinete no es correcta).

El faldn es la parte de la silla donde colocamos las piernas, por lo que debe tener la forma de la posicin de la rodilla dependiendo de la disciplina hpica. The flap is the part of the saddle where we put our legs, so it must have the shape of the knees position, depending on the riding discipline.

Knee pads are the stoppers that are put in the saddles in order to brake the legsposition. The knee pad in the front part brakes the knees, and the stopper in the back part brakes the calf muscles. In both cases, they can go outside the flap (external) or inside the flap (internal). They serve to give the rider the right position (within some limits), depending on the riding variety.

La rodillera y el taco son los topes que instalamos en la silla para frenar la posicin de las piernas. La rodillera en la parte delantera frena las rodillas y el taco en la parte trasera frena los gemelos, en ambos casos, pueden ir por fuera del faldn exterior o por dentro interiores. Digamos que sirven para que el jinete tenga la posicin correcta dentro de unos lmites dependiendo de la modalidad hpica.

It is the inferior part of the saddle, down the tree. It has two main objectives: to avoid the tree touching the horse and to spread the riders weight over the horses back. For both aims we can use filling panels (wool or hair), or panels made of latex rubber. Although very different materials, the final result is the same. The difference is that the filling panel will fit the horses back little by little, but with the time it loses its properties and it is necessary to fill in it again. However, the panel made of latex rubber is always the same, so if it is well made it is good from the first to the last day, but if it is badly-designed it does not serve and it cannot be corrected. The filling of the panel is especially made for ZALDI with a water-repellent material, that does not allow the horses sweat to go out and so, it does not harden, avoiding any injury to the horse. In the panel, more important than the material, is that the canal (central separation between the right and left panel) has more or less 7 centimetres, the width of the horses spine. The panels must be placed over the horses back, in this way protecting the horses spine. In more than 90% of cases of grazes in horses, the cause is not the panels but the sweat. The sweat is acid, and it can decompose, and if we put on the saddle or the sweat cloth with wet sweat, this acid burns the horses hair, and without this protective hair the graze is sure, even though the panel is very good (it is as if you put on wet socks and go walking). Another general idea is the use of back pad without knowing its function. The panels aim is to avoid the saddle grazing the horse, but holding the rider as close to the horse as possible. In 90% of the cases we have a compensated saddle, and we put one or two back pad that just serve to unbalance the rider. The different back pad serve to correct a problem of the saddle or the horses back. We must know exactly which is the problem and choose the back pad in order to correct it, not the opposite. Note: the panel may be made of air (flair system) lana / wool

El baste es la parte inferior de la silla por debajo de la armadura. Tiene 2 misiones fundamentales: 1 evitar que la armadura roce al caballo, 2 expandir el peso del jinete sobre los lomos del caballo. Para ambos cometidos podemos utilizar bastes de relleno (lana o pelo) o baste de goma (ltex), siendo dos materiales muy distintos el resultado final es el mismo. Las diferencias radican en que el baste de relleno se ir amoldando al dorso del caballo poco a poco, pero al cabo del tiempo pierde propiedades y hay que volver a rellenar. Sin embargo el baste de goma ltex es siempre igual por lo que si est bien fabricado es bueno desde el primer da hasta el ltimo. sin embargo si est mal diseado no sirve y no se puede corregir. El relleno del baste est hecho especialmente para Zaldi de un material hidrfugo, el cual no deja pasar el sudor del caballo y por lo tanto no se pone duro, evitando cualquier dao al caballo. En el baste, ms importante que el material, es que la canal (separacin central entre el baste derecho e izquierda) tenga aproximadamente 7 cms, medida de la espina dorsal del caballo. Los bastes deben ir apoyados sobre los lomos, protegiendo as la columna vertebral del caballo. En ms del 90% de los casos de rozaduras del caballo el causante no son los bastes de la silla sino el sudor. El sudor tiene cido y de un da para otro se descompone y si ponemos la silla o el sudadero con sudor hmedo, este cido quema el pelo del caballo y una vez sin pelo protector, ya tenemos rozadura segura aunque el baste sea muy bueno (ej: ponerse un calcetn hmedo y empezar a andar). Otra idea muy generalizada es el uso de salvacruces sin saber para que sirven. La misin del baste es evitar que la silla roce al caballo pero manteniendo al jinete lo ms prximo al caballo posible. en el 90% de los casos tenemos una silla compensada y ponemos 1 o 2 salvacruces para nada que slo sirven para desequilibrar al jinete. Los distintos salvacruce sirven tanto para corregir un problema de la silla como del dorso del caballo, debemos saber exactamente cal es el problema y elegir el salvacruces para corregirlo, no para descorregirlo Nota: el baste tambin se puede hacer de aire (sistema flair).

latiguillos / girth straps

Los latiguillos son las correas que sujetan la silla a la cincha. Pueden ser largos o cortos. Los latiguillos largos (2 unidades) cinchan ms fuerte ya que aplicamos la fuerza desde abajo, adems las hebillas de la cincha quedan por fuera del faldn, y con ,los latiguillos cortos (3 unidades, 1 de repuesto) hacemos menos fuerza pero podemos apretar la cincha desde arriba. Pueden ser de cuero cromo (engrasar muy poco, porque si no estiran) o de biotane. They are the straps that join the girth to the saddle. They can be long or short. The long girth straps (2 units) girth harder because we apply the strength downwards, and also the girthsclasps stay outside the flap. With the short ones (3 units, one in reserve) we do less strength, but we can girth upwards. They may be made of chrome leather (put little grease on, because otherwise they stretch), or they may be made of biotane.

Cuero, es la piel cuya estructura fibrosa original ms o menos intacta, ha sido tratada para incrementar su durabilidad. La flor es la terminacin de un lado del cuero, debajo de la flor esta el corium, una mezcla de protenas y fibras con estructura en forma de spagueti. Estas fibras dan al cuero durabilidad, fuerza y flexibilidad, la carne es la parte de abajo, por donde pierde humedad, pero al ser ms porosa acepta mejor la grasa o el aceite.

Leather is the skin whose original fibrous structure, more or less intact, has been manipulated in order to improve its durability. The grain is the ending of leather side, under the grain is the corium, mixture of proteins and fibre with a spaghetti-shaped structure. un material sinttico y ecolgico, muy resistente y cmodo que no necesita un cuidado especial. Limpiar con agua y jabn (solo hay que tener cuidado de dejarlo bien seco ya que sino pierde sus propiedades).

Hay que engrasar la silla antes de usarla. Alargaremos su vida y ser mucho ms cmoda. El tratamiento del cuero debe ser igual al de nuestro pelo; primero lo limpiamos con champ y despus lo tratamos con acondicionador; es importantsimo limpiar el cuero antes de darle grasa o aceite. Si nos aseguramos que la superficie del cuero est limpia de polvo y grasa, despus los poros aceptarn mejor el acondicionador

Colocar un alambre de 42 cm. en la cruz del caballo. Medir la apertura del alambre en la parte de abajo. Es aconsejable tambin dar la raza y el peso aproximado del caballo. El 80% de los caballos en Espaa tienen una cruz de medida normal (32 cm. de cabeza en la armadura).
