The AUA MBA Introduces Two Options

The AUA School of Business & Management (SBM) is pleased to announce that starting in the fall of 2011 it will offer two versions of its MBA program: 1. An evening program the Professional MBA 2. A daytime program the Fulltime MBA All applicants will have the opportunity to select their preferred format. SBM will do its best to allow qualified applicants to enroll in their program of choice pending the availability of space in each group. The same admissions process and criteria apply to both options. The Main Differences between PMBA & FTMBA are:

The Professional MBA

The PMBA is tailored mainly for working people with several years of relevant professional experience. These students would like to expand their knowledge of business fundamentals and core management skills necessary to exercise high level managerial responsibility. The PMBA emphasizes strategic decision making and leadership skills by including several project-based courses for real world experience. The PMBA is for students who wish to remain fully employed while pursuing their MBA studies. Maintaining fulltime employment is highly desired. The program is offered on part-time basis and lasts 2.5 academic years. Classes typically meet 18:30-21:45, three times per week; for instance, on MondaysWednesdays-Fridays or on TuesdaysThursdays-Saturdays. Some courses are offered in summer, in the months of July and September. No courses are offered in August.

The Fulltime MBA

The FTMBA provides a well-rounded business education for young individuals with limited work experience, who seek a management career as well as desire to specialize in one of the following main functional areas: Accounting, Marketing, and Finance. The FTMBA allows a higher degree of specialization by including a greater number of advanced elective courses in the second year curriculum. The FTMBA is a demanding and intensive program. Concurrent fulltime employment is strongly discouraged. The program is offered on full-time basis and lasts 2 academic years. Classes typically meet 14:00-18:00, four times per week. Some second year elective courses that are common with PMBA are offered in the evening. No courses are offered in summer. Students conduct an internship in the summer between their first and second year of studies.

Common Characteristics:
Both PMBA and FTMBA are designed to provide students with a comprehensive MBA learning experience. As such, both MBA options combine three essential elements: 1. A comprehensive and challenging core curriculum that provides students with a solid foundation in business. Subject areas offered include: Accounting, Marketing, Strategy, Finance, Information Technology, Management, International Business, and Economics. An emphasis on developing leadership skills including business communications, managerial negotiations, applied quantitative methods, career development, entrepreneurial and creative thinking, throughout the curriculum as well as within specific course modules. A selection of specialized elective courses that allows students to broaden their professional knowledge beyond the regular general management curriculum.

2.

3.

In order to graduate, both FTMBA and PMBA students must complete 98 units. Both MBA options allow students to choose an MBA Concentration. Three MBA Concentrations are offered: Finance, Accounting and Marketing. The selected Concentration is noted on the student transcript as well as on the diploma. To formally declare a Concentration, PTMBA students are expected to take at least 4 and FTMBA students at least 6 advanced elective courses in the selected area of specialization. To be noted that declaring a Concentration is not mandatory; students may decide to choose electives in different functional areas. Also, under certain conditions, students are allowed to change their concentration later during their studies. The internship is required for students with less than two years of full-time (or four years of part time) relevant work experience at the date of their admission to the program. The internship requires 360 hours (or almost 9 weeks of fulltime work) that will provide the student with a meaningful learning experience.

The PMBA Program:

This 30 month program features the regular MBA curriculum including required core courses and electives courses. Almost 75 percent of the curriculum is identical to the FTMBA. The PMBA also includes unique courses designed to allow students to develop knowledge and skills necessary for high level managerial positions. These are: Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Incubation; Project Management; Leading Organizational Change; and Strategic Project Consulting.
