Pastors Corner ~
ADVENT AND THE THREEFOLD COMING OF JESUS CHRIST We begin a new liturgical year on this First Sunday of Advent. This is also the first time we will use the new translation of the Roman Missal. We have double reasons to welcome change not only in the liturgy but in our hearts. Advent prepares us for Christs threefold coming and the new Roman Missal prepares us to encounter the Lord Jesus more deeply in the liturgy and in our lives. CHRIST HAS COME The Incarnation of Christ is truly an unfathomable mystery. Why would God choose to live as man and embrace all human imperfections except sin? He became a slave to save all. Advent reminds us of His first coming when He was born in Bethlehem, embracing a life of poverty, service and self-giving. While we celebrate Christmas with pomp and glitter, we do not forget that Jesus Christ is the center of this joyous event, and we glorify God for choosing to dwell with us and give meaning to our lives. CHRIST IS HERE Before his Ascension into heaven, Jesus promised to be with us until the end of time. He is with us through the Holy Spirit; He comes to us in different manners: in His Word being proclaimed; in the Bread and Wine that becomes His Body and Blood; in the minister/priest who leads the people in worship; in the sacraments; in the congregation in worship. He comes to us at every moment in life, especially when we are at prayer. CHRIST WILL COME AGAIN Being grateful that God gave us His Son, and being more aware of His abiding presence in our daily lives, the Church reminds us most especially during this Advent season that He will come again, not anymore as a Child and not just sacramentally. He will come as King of all and Judge of the living and the dead. That is why the readings are focused, not so much on the end of the world, but on the beginning of a new era of Gods reign where Jesus will be King forever. ADVENT REMINDS US ALWAYS TO BE PREPARED TO MEET CHRIST AND BE MORE CONSCIOUS OF HIS ROLE IN OUR LIVES.
