Secular Humanism (SH) is a secular philosophy that cater to human reason, ethic, justice and the search for

fulfillment. This philosophy reject religious dogma, supernaturality as the basic for human morality and decision making. Secular humanism believes that people can lead a happy and functional life without God, and can capable of ethical and moral without religion and God. Secular humanism can be accepted as an ethical system. There are argument that support the secular humanism, for examplesSH starting to excluding God from the schools and society. SH attempt to function as a civilized society with the exclusion of God and His Moral Principles. During the last several decades, they have very successful in propagating their beliefs. Their primary approach is to target the young student through public school system. Secular humanism can be accepted as an ethical system. the argument that support secular humanism. Secular Humanism is a term which has come into use in the last thirty years to describe a world view with the following elements and principles: A conviction that dogmas, ideologies and traditions, whether religious, political or social, must be weighed and tested by each individual and not simply accepted on faith. Commitment to the use of critical reason, factual evidence, and scientific methods of inquiry, rather than faith and mysticism, in seeking solutions to human problems and answers to important human questions. A primary concern with fulfillment, growth, and creativity for both the individual and humankind in general. A constant search for objective truth, with the understanding that new knowledge and experience constantly alter our imperfect perception of it. A concern for this life and a commitment to making it meaningful through better understanding of ourselves, our history, our intellectual and artistic achievements, and the outlooks of those who differ from us. A search for viable individual, social and political principles of ethical conduct, judging them on their ability to enhance human well-being and individual responsibility. A conviction that with reason, an open marketplace of ideas, good will, and tolerance, progress can be made in building a better world for ourselves and our children. Secular humanism can be accepted as an ethical system in a society. However, there are some of the arguments that support secular humanism. Firstly, a difficulty of proving supernatural existence. We would have to prove that the existence of God but it is impossible to prove through empirical test. For example a biblical higher criticism that is the argument of the position of the Bible is full of mistakes, myths, no longer relevant to human being nowadays. Secondly, difficulty of providing a rational foundation. Since it is hard to prove the existence of supernatural being, and the rationality of this foundation has been doubted. Secular humanism is base on rationality, everything that would bring a good things in life and it is rational that would be an ethical. But the truth is that is against of our teaching in religion. For examples, Christian believe in God and the scriptures that written in the bible but in Secular Humanism they need prove to support their believe.

If a book like the Bible were the only reliable blueprint for human decency that we had, it would be impossible (both practically and logically) to criticize it in moral terms. But it is extraordinarily easy to criticize the morality one finds in the Bible, as most of it is simply odious and incompatible with a civil society Thirdly, If religion really provided the only conceivable objective basis for morality, it should be impossible to posit a nontheistic objective basis for morality. But it is not impossible; it is rather easy. Clearly, we can think of objective sources of moral order that do not require the existence of a law-giving God. Whether we will ever be in a position to discover these truths and agree about them cannot be known in advance and this is the case for all questions of scientific fact. Lastly, about the commitment to use a critical reason, factual evidence, and scientific methods of inquiry, compare to faith and mysticism, by looking for a solutions to human problems and the answers to important human questions. We can say that most of our culture in Malaysia is more to religious morality that based on religion, compare to American and European, they prefer to Secular Humanity.

Secular Humanism is the strongly held viewpoint that ideology be it religious or political must be thoroughly examined by each individual and not simply accepted or rejected on faith. Along with this, an essential part of Secular Humanism is a continually adapting search for truth, primarily through science and philosophy. Secular Humanism affirms that with the present state of scientific knowledge, dogmatic belief in an absolutist moral/ethical system (e.g. Kantian, Islamic, Christian) is unreasonable. However, it affirms that individuals engaging in rational moral/ethical deliberations can discover some universal "objective standards". Some secular humanists believe that universal moral standards are required for the proper functioning of society. However, they believe such necessary universality can and should be achieved by developing a richer notion of morality through reason, experience and scientific inquiry rather than through faith in a supernatural realm or source. Atheists, agnostics, deists, and rationalists are those thought to be supporters of Humanism, although may not always be. However, these beliefs are occupied with metaphysical issues, addressing questions of existence, while Humanism ignores such metaphysical matters and has its focus on ethics. Many Humanists address ethics from the point of view of ethical naturalism, and some support an actual science of morality.

Secular humanists hold that ethics is consequential, to be judged by results. This is in contrast to so-called command ethics, in which right and wrong are defined in advance and attributed to divine authority. No god will save us, declared Humanist Manifesto II (1973), we must save ourselves. Secular humanists seek to develop and improve their ethical principles by examining the results they yield in the lives of real men and women. Secular humanists believe human values should express a commitment to improve human welfare in this world. (Of course, human welfare is understood in the context of our

interdependence upon the environment and other living things.) Ethical principles should be evaluated by their consequences for people, not by how well they conform to preconceived ideas of right and wrong. Secular humanism denies that meaning, values, and ethics are imposed from above. In that it echoes simple atheism. But secular humanism goes further, challenging humans to develop their own values. Secular humanism maintains that through a process of value inquiry, reflective men and women can reach rough agreement concerning values, and craft ethical systems that deliver desirable results under most circumstances. Indeed, say secular humanists, the basic components of effective morality are universally recognized. Paul Kurtz has written of the common moral decenciesqualities including integrity, trustworthiness, benevolence, and fairness. These qualities are celebrated by almost every human religion, not because God ordained them, but because human beings cannot thrive in communities where these values are ignored. Secular humanism offers a nonreligious template that may one day guide much of humanity in pursuing fulfilling and humane liveslives that are rich intellectually, ethically, and emotionally, without reliance on religious faith.

Secular humanism can be accepted as an ethical system. Discuss the argument that support secular humanism. (20m)

secular ethics is a branch of moral philosophy in which ethics is based solely on human faculties such as logic, reason or moral intuition and not derived from purported supernatural revelation or guidance is the source of religious ethics. secular humanism affirms tha with the present state of scientific knowledge, dogmatic belief in an absolutist moral for example islamic and christian is unreasonable however it affirms that individuals engaging in rational moral deliberations can discover some universal objective standards. it is also refers to a branch of humanism that is based on exclusively secular principles. It is often associated with atheism however it should be note that not all atheists identify as secular humanism. unsurprisingly the endeavours associated with secular humanist morality is not to popular with the religious right as it directly and rather convincingly contradicts one of the recent secular campaign that became fashionable. Thus secular humanism aims to establish moral principles conducive to the freedom and well beings of human based on athical reasoning that is independent of all alleged supernatural sourcesof morality. It is not fixed ehtical system an even less on ideology itselt, but rather a set of general guidelines for the developlment of a more concrete programme to increase the knowledge availabele to humanity and use this information fot further our well being

Salam Puan, This my answer; As an introduction, Secular Humanism known as Humanism, where humanism means many things, but in this text it refers to a nonreligious view of life essentially based upon atheism or agnosticism and advocating a morality that excludes religious belief or religion. While, secular humanist defined as an ethical and humane standards should be developed by society without any interference from specific religious dictates. For example, human beings can lead happy without religion or god to belief and live their lives without religious belief. However can be a morality without religion? Firstly, religion is one of the oldest human institutions. We have little evidences that language existed in prehistoric times, but we do have evidence of religious practices which are entwined with artistic expression, and law exhorting early human beings to behave in certain ways. In these earlier times, morality was embedded in the tradition, moral, customs and religion practices of the cultures. Furthermore, religion as a most powerful sanction for getting and rewarding power of an all power supernatural being, for example rain, storm, and lunar eclipse. Thus, the leaders of a culture have the greatest possible sanction for the morality they want their followers to uphold. For example, Islam teaches its followers to become useful land a good servant in the land and other religious also same to teach their followers as well. Secondly, then, to argue that statement I do belief that nonreligious people also can be moral. If we can briefly characterized morality in this world as not harming others or murdering our fellow human beings and generally trying to make life and the world better for everyone and everything that exist. And if many human beings do not accept the existence of a supernatural world and yet act as morally as anyone who does, then there must be some attributes other than religious belief that are necessary for one to be moral. Although it is obvious that most religions contain ethical systems, it is not true that all ethical systems are religiously-based. Therefore, there is no necessary connection between morality and religion. For example one of the nonreligion people known as pagan. Then, I do also belief that religious people can be immoral. It is known fact that some religious people can be immoral if they are not practices the proper guidelines to implement and also do not follow the religions needs. Although they have religion but they tend to ignore the religion needs. Impact they might be immoral person by not carry the proper values in the specific religious. For example in Islam, pray will make their follower good behave towards good ethic. However, I also agree that comprehensive life stance that focuses on the way human beings can lead happy and functional lives. Though it posits that human beings are capable of being ethical and moral without religion or god, it neither assumes humans to be inherently evil or innately good, nor presents humans as "above nature" or superior to it. Rather, the Humanist life stance emphasizes the unique responsibility facing humanity and the ethical consequences of human decisions. Fundamental to the concept of Secular Humanism is the strongly held viewpoint that ideology can be it religious or political and also must be thoroughly examined by each individual and not simply accepted or rejected on faith. It depends on the how people accept that and express by their own. The conclusion is there are many conflicting ethical statements concerning various issues as there are many interpretation from various religions because both religions and non-religions people can be good ethic when they wanted to be moral or immoral. Just because moral principles are similar in all societies does not mean that they are valid and absolute. (source by : Ethics/ Theory and Practice - Jacues P.Thiroux and Keith W. Krasemann)
