Pastors Paragraph
What does tithing do for me? I know what it does for the Church, but what does it do for the giver? As you give, you support the ministries of the Church that are strategically designed to reach Newton County and touch the world for Jesus. But there is a far greater aspect of giving that is often overlooked. Deut 14:23 (NKJV) And you shall eat before the LORD your God, in the place where He chooses to make His name abide, the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil, of the firstborn of your herds and your flocks, that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always. As you give to the Lord, you learn of the deep and abiding reverence that we are to have for our Great Lord. Among the many ways that God has chosen for His people to develop and nurture a strong relationship with Him, tithing is at the top of the list. If you are not a tither, become one. Start with an amount of money that you can give each week or each pay period on a consistent basis. Then increase the amount you give over time until you have become a New Testament giver. Give as you have been given. Ask God to show you how He gave. Based on your understanding of what you have been given give. I love you Mark

Have you noticed the slightly cooler temperatures? Maybe youve watched as the first orange, red, and yellow leaves gently cascade to the ground. Do you know which season just started? NOPE! Autumn is nowhere to be found! Instead, the Everything is Breaking season has arrived at the Marsh household. Can you relate to having days when your air conditioner breaks, your treadmill does everything but run, your new cell phone stubbornly refuses to accept phone calls and cuts people off in mid-sentence? Maybe you know what its like to lift your head from the turning grindstone only to see your hard work leading to things that do not last! Now, before we join the Baptist Whining Club we need to step back and remember a few things. Are you ready? Okay follow me as we review some basic truths. Number One: God is always working. Number Two: God does not fail. Number Three: He wants us to join Him in his unbreakable, infallible, and very deliberate work. Why are these truths important to those of us who find ourselves overwhelmed with feelings of frustration, burn out, and hopelessness? Joining Gods work never leads to the empty results we may experience in other areas of our lives. However, when we invest our time and energy where God is not working we will often find ourselves feeling empty and frustrated. In fact, Psalms 127 reminds us that Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. I do not know about you, but I have no desire to be involved in useless work! Our Church must continue to look for God working around us and then CONNECT with His work. God has designed all of us as unique members of His Body so find a way to CONNECT your talents, gifts, and experiences where God is already at work. Neil

More Than a Feeling - Everyone wants to be happy. Marketing campaigns use that desire to sell products. We are led to believe that if we buy the products we will experience happiness. But happiness and joy are two different things. This month's study is a look at joy. As Christians, we have the promise of joy from Jesus through the Holy Spirit. This unit will help students understand the Christian character trait of joy and how it is expressed. On October 12th I will be leaving for South Africa for 10 days. On this trip I will be meeting with the directors of International World Changers and local missionaries to establish relationships and identify possibilities for us to minister in and around Johannesburg, South Africa. We have spots for a summer trip June 8 - June 19. If you are interested please let me know. You have to be at least a Junior in high school to participate. Please pray for me as God begins to lay the groundwork for things to come. I am excited about the opportunity for us to connect with God's amazing commission on a global level. He is truly a great God.
