Dear Year 2 Parents, Over the next six weeks we will be following a unit of work which focuses on Clothes, called Dressing Up. The main curriculum areas that will be addressed are Art, Geography, ICT, History and Science. In Art we will be: *looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy *finding materials for our own creations *planning and designing land art of our own *weaving using a variety of materials In Geography we will be: *finding out where our home country is using an atlas *comparing the climates of countries with a particular focus on hot/cold *discussing the impact of weather on what people wear In ICT we will be: *making patterns, creating designs *researching information In History we will be: *researching clothes people wore in the past *comparing clothes then to now In Science we will be: *looking at what clothes are made from *investigating which materials are good for keeping us warm/dry *decision making, to help when making choices for clothes to take on holiday *weaving with a variety of materials *identifying the properties of different fabrics and materials and grouping accordingly This unit of work will help the children develop an awareness of suitable clothes for different seasons and different places you could talk about the clothes you pack to go on holiday or back to your home country and the choices you have to make.

In Literacy: *In reading and writing: Our focus will be poetry with patterns and instructional texts related to our IPC unit. We will be reading, writing and performing shape and patterned poems. We will investigate interesting and inventive word choices for our own poem writing! In our instructional work we will be looking at sequencing, using diagrams and simple charts and using bossy (imperative) verbs. In Numeracy we will be: *securing number facts and calculating *use of the multiplication sign and introducing multiplication by 2, 5 and 10 *measuring weight, capacity and length *fractions of shapes and numbers *handling data by presenting and reading information on graphs and tables. The weekly timetable: PE: Tuesday Library: Wednesday Swimming: Wednesday (Leaving school at 9:30am.) Spelling Homework: This continues as before, with spellings given out on Monday and returned to school on Friday. Our Culture Module this half term will be The United Kingdom. If you can, please discuss with your child the work they have done as the term progresses and let them teach you if they can!
