How to setup 5973N MSD/ 6890 GC system 1) Setup PC with two network cards, disable one during initial

setup (will be used for connection to lab network later). For the second network card under network connections go to TCP/IP properties. Set IP address to 10.1.1.100 and subnet to 255.255.255.0, leave gateway blank. Make sure that windows firewall is disabled. 2) Setup a network hub by assigning port 1 to the MSD, port 2 to the GC, and port 3 to the PC being used. Power up the GC and assign its IP address of 10.1.1.101 by pushing options, then scroll down to communications. Also program subnet address as 255.255.255.0 and gateway to 10.1.1.100. Unit must be power cycled for changes to take effect. 3) Install SICL library/drivers from Chemstation disk. Run the I/O config program. Configure the Lan server(PC as server) and also TCPIP Lan client (select SICL-LAN as default protocol). Under start, Agilent I/O libraries select LAN server, move this program to the startup menu in windows. 4) Install MSD Chemstation software and then open the configuration program from the desktop. Assign the MSD IP 10.1.1.102 and the GC IP 10.1.1.101. MSD must be checked for the polarity from the factory, select enhanced quantitation as option. 5) Install bootp software and program the IP/subnet/gateway addresses for the instruments. The MAC address for the GC will be found on the jet direct card by removing it from the instrument. If integrated the MAC address should be under options-> diagnostics -> LAN status. For the msd, power up unit, press no/cancel to stop bootp requests. Then select menu until network appears then press item until MAC address is displayed. Restart the computer. 6) Once computer fully booted go under control panel, administrative tools and services, select bootp and stop the process. Now power on both the GC and MSD units. On the MSD unit cancel any bootp requests, select menu until network appears then item until MSD IP 0.0.0.0 appears (firmware version 3.01.58 or higher). Press yes and use up and down arrows to set and item to scroll over, press yes when complete. Also assign gateway and subnet addresses. When down press item until reboot with new network settings? appears and press yes. 7) Open configuration editor on PC and under help select check networking and update MSD firmware. When complete, if firmware was updated power cycling of the instrument will be needed and possible reprogramming of IP/gateway/subnet addresses. Once brought back on line select instrument #1 icon on desktop and software should initiate as well as bringing GC and MSD online.
