Master of Counselling by Coursework Programme / Master of Education by Coursework Programme / Master of Teaching by Coursework Programme Guidelines for Research Exercise Report Format The conventions prescribed by the American Psychological Association (APA) for formatting, citing and referencing scholarly documents must be followed in preparing the Research Exercise report. Tables and Figures must be presented and labeled as recommended by the APA format. Paper: Use A4 paper; set page to portrait orientation; print on one side of the paper only. Margins: Set left margin to 4 cm and all other margins to 3 cm. Text Font: Use times new Roman font (11 point) for all text, except for titles of chapters, which should be in 14-point, bold, upper-case text. Use italics to emphasise text. Do not underline anything or write words using all upper-case letters (unless it is the title of a chapter). Times New Roman font size 10 may be used for large tables. Spacing: Use double line spacing for the main text. Entries in tables, captions and materials in appendices may be single-spaced. Page break: Begin each chapter on a new page. Avoid unnecessary page breaks within a chapter. Paragraphs: All paragraphs should be indented (including paragraphs immediately following a heading or a side-heading. Pagination: Number the pages consecutively from the Title page to the Abstract in lower case Roman numerals. Hide the page number of the title page. Binding: Copies submitted for examination must be soft bound and the final copies must be hard bound (as described later). Parttime candidates are also expected to comply with this condition. Examination Each Research Exercise Report (Mode A or Mode B) shall be examined by two internal examiners, one of whom shall be the supervisor of the candidate. Each Mode C Research Exercise Report shall be examined by an external examiner in addition to two internal examiners. Each internal examiner shall submit a report in the prescribed format to Assistant Registrar (SHBIE). All examiners reports with respect to a given candidate shall be considered by a Board of Examiners (BOE) comprising Dean or Deputy Dean, PL/GPD or PL/ITP and Internal Examiners. Assistant Registrar shall serve as the secretary to the board. The BOE shall, after considering the examiners reports decide on a Grade and a Grade Point for the Research exercise of a given candidate. Final hard-bound copies and the CD/DVD soft copy Final Research exercise report (incorporating changes required by the Board of Examiners) must be word-processed, bound in black cloth with stiff boards with gold lettering not exceeding 16 points and be in A4 size. The title or an abbreviation thereof and authors name shall be printed in block letters on the spine. Each page must have a left margin of 4 cm to allow for binding. CD/DVD soft copy must be submitted in a CD/DVD cover.
