Signs and Symptoms of Age Spots Age spots (also known as sun spots, liver spots, and lentigines),

are harmless, flat, yellow or brown discolorations of the skin which usually occur on the back of the hands, neck and face of people above the age of 40. These age spots are usually not serious, but instead are mainly an annoyance since they can reveal a person's age. However, if you have irregular, dark spots that increase in size or change color/texture, have them checked by a doctor since they could be a sign of skin cancer. Causes of Age Spots Age spots are commonly a sign of sun damage by having the skin exposed to the sun over many years. In more serious situations, they can be due to impaired liver function or dietary and nutritional deficiencies. For example, as we age, our metabolism changes and the liver can become overwhelmed with toxins. If the liver cannot rid the body of these toxins, age spots (liver spots) can begin to develop. Oxidation within the body and a lack of antioxidants in your diet can also play an important role in the development of age spots. It is important to remember that age spots take years to form and eliminating them will take time, too. But don't give up! Try one of the remedies below for a few months, and if they don't improve simply try another one. Also, as a preventative measure, always use a sunscreen of at least SPF 15 if you plan to be outdoors in the sun for extended periods of time. Home Remedies and Natural Cures for Age Spots Treatment Age Spots Home Remedy Using Apple Cider Vinegar When Apple Cider Vinegar is mixed with onion juice and applied directly to the skin, it can help you to get rid of age spots and sun spots. Finely chop or blend an onion, and use a strainer or cheese cloth to squeeze and extract the juice. Take one part of Apple Cider Vinegar and one part of onion juice and mix them together. Dab a cotton pad into the solution and apply it directly onto the age spots. Leave this on the skin for a minimum of 30 minutes, and as long as you are comfortable with it. Repeat this once a day for approximately 6 weeks and you should begin to notice a gradual improvement. If the spots have not completely disappeared after the 6 weeks but they have started to fade, keep repeating the process until they do. To speed up the process, you can mix 3 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar into a mug full of water (hot or cold), and drink this twice daily for a month. This will not only improve your age spots, but it will also give you a healthy young glow and make you feel energized and active. If you find the taste of the vineger to be too strong, try adding a tablespoon of honey as a natural sweetener. Natural Cure for Age Spots Using Aloe Vera Aloe Vera juice or gel has long been known as a general healing agent for skin problems, particularly burns. Many people have also found it to be helpful in reducing the visual appearance of age spots. Simply rub the juice or gel directly onto the affected areas twice a day, and leave it on the skin for at least 45 minutes each time. Within a month you should begin to notice improvements. Home Remedy for Age Spots Using Lemon Juice The acid in Lemon juice has been shown to help fade the appearance of age spots. Simply dab fresh lemon juice directly onto the spots twice daily and you should begin to notice improvements in about two months. Leave the juice on the skin for at least 30 minutes, or as long as you are comfortable with it. You can also leave the juice on the skin overnight. NOTE: If you plan to go outdoors, wait for the juice to dry as it increases the skin's sensitivity to sunlight. Using Castor Oil as a Remedy for Age Spots Castor Oil has been shown to improve the appearance of age spots. Simple rub the oil directly onto the affected skin areas once in the morning and once in the evening. This should help fade the spots within a month. More Age Spots Home Remedies and Treatments Reader Comments Posted by sona on Oct 27 2011 23:55:00 i am 25years old ,i developed these black spots when i was in my teenage, near my eye. i went to a clinic and consulted with the doc to get it removed. the doctor examined and told me that they are warts ( they were about 11 of them in between cheekbone and the eye).so using lazer technique i got them burned. though they appeared to be gone they reappeared after a fortnight, they look a shade lighter now. i am completely tensed and do not know what to do? please help!! Posted by Zafar on Oct 21 2011 19:12:50 For Sandeep, I understand how horrible they look - I got so many dark brown spots after the birth of my daughter. I mixed 1 part of Organic Apple Cider vinegar and 2 parts of Organic Rose Water and applied it with a cotton swab every night before going to bed. I also used Organic Castor Oil as a moisturizer during the day. Now after a month of regular application, they look very light. I could actually go out today without putting the foundation/concealer on that I always did to hide them. Castor oil feels a bit sticky - you can mix it in your regular moisturizer cream if the stickiness bothers you. You can buy these all three items from pretty much any herbal food store. Make sure you get everything organic. I hope it helps! Good luck

Posted by Jacquie on Oct 07 2011 21:59:09 I have tried a number of purported remedies for my skin tags - currently do not have health insurance so the liquid nitrogen option is out - too expensive. After trying all the other methods out there, I tried ACV and voila - the darn thing diminished by leaps and bounds, and is now virtually GONE! I was told to try covering up this pesky thing on the side of my face w/clear nail polish, cover it up w/duct tape - none of that worked and only served to irritate the surrounding skin. I dabbed on the AVC 23x/day and at night covered it up w/a small bandaid, and couldn't be happier w/the results. I fully intend to see if this same item will solve the age spot problem. Will report back, but if you suffer from skin tags, BY ALL MEANS, SKIP PAST ALL THE OTHER SUGGESTED REMEDIES AND USE THE APPLE CIDER VINEGAR! I bought mine from the local grocery store. You'll be glad you did. This joker was HUGE on the side of my face - we ladies (and men...) don't like that. Five years ago I notice a dark blemish on my left cheek bone. I started purchasing lots of different creams such as Age Spot Removal, Bleach Cream, and others. I even tried using lemon and nothing really worked. I also notice another age spot on my right cheek and now Im in panic mood. Currently both Age Spots seems fully develop; they are both dark and very unattractive. So, this is exactly what I'm doing in hope of a full cure. 2 times a day I exfoliate my face with NIVEA FOR MEN (FACE SCRUB) with a drop of vitamin E oil. And now for what Im hoping that may do the trick: 3 to 4 times a day I apply on each age spot APPLE CYDER VINAGER WITH ONION MIXED TOGETHER, I use a cotton tip. Ive been doing this for almost 2 weeks and barely see results. BUT, researchers suggest waiting 6 weeks for minor results. I've used them for years and they have cleared up many spots for me. My sister used it on her scar and it made a significant difference as well. Good luck ;) Posted by anneb on Jul 21 2011 09:49:26 I have been using CompoundW to get rid of Moles with great success. However, it causes the skin around the moles to become a little damaged. Now that it's summer I want to keep getting rid of the moles without the damage. I put on lemon juice last night and kept applying it for 2 hours while watching tv. I literally saw some of the moles lighten. I have a LOT of moles so this is going to take a long time to get rid of all of them. I am encouraged by the lemon juice. It has long been used to lighten hair. I see that it is also good to get rid of the moles. I believe the moles go away permanently as long as I stay out of the sun. I just have to keep going until all of the root system is gone. It pushes its way up to the skin until all of the root is gone. That's my understanding of how it works. Posted by Bob on Jul 13 2011 16:55:03 I have had success with using freeze spray such as sold for wart removal to remove a few spots and skin tags from my face. few days after shriveling up. I have not used lemon or anything- but i hacve used about every other thing there is out there. I will start the lemon and aloe this evening. Fingerscrossed Posted by Barbara on Jul 11 2011 18:58:44 to aid in the removal of brown spots I suggest a liver cleanse as well. Do this 2 days on and 2 days off for 3 treatments: 5 tablespoons wild rose hips & 0.5 litre of boiling water, leave in a thermos overnight. In the morning dissolve 2-3 tablespoons of sorbitol in one glass of very hot tea. After drinking, dont sit, walk around for 20 minutes then finish the rest of the tea in the thermos.Wait 45 minutes to eat breakfast consisting of fruits, vegetables and nuts. Avoid meat, fries, white bread and pasta, potatoes and sugar while following this. Drink 50ml apple, carrot and beet juice mixed with the juice of 1 lemon. Brown spots are a sign of too many toxins in the liver...clean it up and you will feel so much better and it'll help the spots!!! Posted by dru on Jul 11 2011 09:41:50 To Eleanor who posted on Glycolic acid (25%) creams, can you tell me the brand you used and also if its available at the pharmacy or do I have to get a prescription. Thanks Posted by Jen on Jun 25 2011 09:52:52 *~*~*~*~* I had DRASTIC results doing just a couple simple things in a couple DAYS. Every commercial products said you'll start to see signs of improvement in 4-8 weeks. No way. My sun spots are nearly gone in less than a week. Here's what I did: *Wash your face with an exfoliant. I use target's brand. *Crush up 5-6 vitamin c in a small cup (I used a shot glass), with a small amount of water. Apply this to your face and leave it on for about a minute. Longer, at first, if it DOES NOT HURT. It'll tingle a bit. Rinse with luke warm water. *Use a bit of HYDROGEN PEROXIDE on a cotton swab on your darker spots or all over. *Milk Thistle. I use caplets purchased from Walgreens that are concentrated. I cut them open with a small exacto knife and use what is inside. IT DOES NOT SMELL GOOD. But add a little water, apply to face, wash off, and your skin feels so happy! *Use a decent lotion with sunscreen. YOU WILL SEE RESULTS and you'll have only spent to get there. :) Good luck! Posted by Meo on Jun 21 2011 10:29:51 I'm 27 and the last couple of years I've noticed an exponential growth of my age spots. Despite the fact that I've been using high sunscreen and a cap. I have sensitive skin so I can't even use regular sunscreen I got to use the sunscreen for babies. Anyways I will try lemon and I also heard that potatos work quite well for fading blemishes and age spots. I shall try both out and post an update. But has anyone actually tried potatoes? Posted by Lara on Jun 18 2011 16:49:54 One more comment: I also believe that as some have noted, I believe that these brown spots have something to do with having high toxicity levels in your liver. So, in addition to using lemon, I am going to undertake a detox of my liver. Not sure yet what it will consist of, but I am sure I can find natural remedies online. I believe that drinking lemon juice and warm water every morning cleans the liver--also using natural supplements and olive oil. Just gotta check exact regime. Posted by Lara on Jun 18 2011 16:44:01 Hello there everyone! Just wanted to share my experience. About four years ago, a friend of mine told me her doctor in Mexico told her to start using lemon juice as a natural deodarant. She told me that it worked and that it also lightened her underarm area. I have used lemon juice for that reason and I love--it works really well and I am love that I don't put nasty artificial chemicals on my skin. Anyway, the other day I noticed that my friend was right, the day use has also lightened my underarm skin, So, now I have a tiny age spot on my face and I have NO doubt that it will work-- lemons have a bleaching effect. Just apply daily or maybe twice a day and be patient. Try it. Posted by Q on Jun 08 2011 19:11:53 I also purchased one bottle of meladerm that claims to remove sun/age spots which are quite light on me and after using it religiously for around a month it did nothing. I emailed them for a refund and they politely told me something to the affect that what I have must be moles!!!! How very disappointing. I can't believe they get away with such claims Posted by Lisa on Jun 04 2011 10:05:15 I had a dime sized brown spot where my un-ibrow once was and another across my upper lip, which looked like an awful mustache. I have tried what seems like everything but nothing worked. Apple cider vinegar and aloe vera helped but didn't make much difference. I even spent a crap load of money on natural lightening products from Sweetsation Therapy that only seemed to make it worse. I recently started using Dr. Bronner's Miracle Hemp Tea Tree castile soap for my hair and body and love it. I decided to start using it on my brown spots twice a day and was quite surprised that after 4 days my spots have lightened considerably. I have not seen results this quick with any other treatment I've tried. The soap is concentrated, but I put it straight on then rub it with water and rinse. I can't wait to see what the results are in another week. I totally suggest you give it a try. Plus, the soap is awesome and is completely organic and certified fair trade. Good luck to everyone and remember your sunscreen. Posted by magzhil on May 29 2011 04:07:01

Apple cider vinegar is the reason for the darkening of the foods that are canned or placed in glass containers. Good luck! Posted by Julia on Apr 01 2011 15:11:59 If you want fast removal, this works! I used a chemical peel cream called Fluorouracil that I bought online. The generic version I bought was called "Flonida" in 5% strength. It worked to remove quarter sized brown patches I had on each upper cheek. I looked into laser but decided to try this because it was so much cheaper, and I'm glad I did because it worked! It cost me .40 with shipping. I applied it 2 x per day for 8 days. It will not do anything for the first few days, but then it will start to get red and tender and will crust over. I used "bag balm" ointment instead of Aquaphor to promote healing after stopping the Flonida because it has an antibiotic that helps prevent infection and soothes. The brown spots are gone! I am beyond thrilled with the results and I just wanted to help others with the same problem. You have excema/very itchy legs. You are probably allergic to something you eat. I finally figured out that certain milk and chocolate products cause my legs to itch. Posted by Kim Campbell on Sep 24 2010 19:01:55 I think it's funny that barely any of you seem to realize that the age spots/melasma has to do with a hormone imbalance. Taking birth control at a young age doesn't seem to affect people as often, but when people over 25 take it who are already estrogen dominant, the dark spots appear. I am 32 with a huge brown spot on my forehead that I hate. I'm going to try everyone's remedies...I hope they help! I suggest that everyone try an acupuncturist. You can try applying 1 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar mixed in half a glass of water. Just dip a cotton swab into this mixture and apply it for overnight. I found that drinking 1tbsp of apple cider vinegar mixed in a glass of water gives the skin a natural glow. Posted by Karen Holderness-Auld on Sep 20 2010 11:38:43 Living in New Zealand we have very strong UV and i see a lot of damaged skin even in young people. I had good skin until a road trip where i got sun exposure on shoulders, face, forearms which all developed ugly brown spots and some of them scaly. I have been doing microdermabrasion with a flat pumice stone while showering. Other times i gently rub small spots with an

emery board. It's not overnight but gradually the spots are fading. Most important use SPF creams, clothing, sun hats. I also wear more makeup and powder on my face now as the talc in it acts as a physical sunscreen. Best of luck to everyone. Posted by Burleigh on Sep 19 2010 17:40:33 Re: Dominica Apparently, your doctor is an idiot. ALL medical literature available states that the primary cause of age spots is due to sun exposure and liver malfunction. I'm sure your doctor made a ton of money off of your gullibility. I have successfully used vinegar to remove spots off of my hands, vinegar - neat, to exfoliate my face; and strip my hair of chemical buildup, etc. My hair looks better than it has for 20 years because I have stopped using shampoos and conditioners and rinse twice a week with a dilute vinegar solution after using Dr. Bronner's tea tree castile soap as the shampoo. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/age-spots/DS00912 Posted by Jay on Sep 16 2010 12:24:46 @ANIRUDDHPATEL: Try applying lemon juice or diluted Apple Cider Vinegar overnight on your dark spots regularly. They both seem to work for me! Good luck! Posted by Dominica on Sep 16 2010 09:52:28 Attention: I'm 65yrs. old and twice in my life I have professionally had all old age spots removed from my face by a plastic surgeon. The procedure was done twice, 10yrs. apart. Totally painless. The second time they were new ones in different places on my face. Note: Some people get them, some don't. My doctor said it has nothing to do with your health or the sun. I hate the sun and am healthy, but the spots came. This home remedy stuff is for the birds... How to pay for it: Get a coffee can and start putting your change in it, and also save any five dollar bills in your wallet. You won't miss them, they add up quickly and you would blow the money on something else anyway. Skip a vacation you wanted to take, stop getting your nails done at a salon, do your own hair, stay away from the mall... you will soon have enough money to pay for the permanant solution and have all your age spots removed completely (face only).. that's the only place that people readily look at is your face. The first time I had it done was ten years ago, and it took ten years for me to have enough new spots to do it again. I had a few here and there and I hated them.. My skin is spot free. When you have something you want to get rid of, it will never go away unless you throw it out, not just dust it off. Right? They need to be burned off for good by a plastic surgeon or dermatoligist. All this home remedy stuff is a joke... go have your old age spots removed professionally once and for all! Note: Whether you get these ugly spots or not is bad luck. It has nothing to do with your liver, toxins, etc. That's a hoax! Go for it! Karen - Fresh lemon juice works the best. Because bottled lemon juice has all these preservatives in it and can't be as beneficial as the fresh juice. Try freezing the juice for days when you can't find the fresh lemons... Good luck! This is for Amy, age 36, posted on July 01, 2010 at 23:14:49. Amy: I have information for you on breast cancer: I have a personal interest in nutrition and its relationship with healing illness through food. I did a research years ago while I was OCONUS and found the following information. Please do take this seriously since it can save your life by restoring your health. BUY: "Flax Oil As A True Aid Against Arthritis, Heart Infarction, Cancer & Other Diseases, by Dr. Johanna Budwig. Dr. Budwig (1908-2003 accidental death) was a seven-time Nobel prize nominee. ISBN: 0969527217. Dr. Budwig (German citizen) was the pioneer on this research and there are documented cures. See also: www.budwigcenter.com. It is not a big book but very valuable. BUY: Flax Seed Oil Super, Cold Pressed, 100% Organic (20%) Lignan Nature's Way - 16 oz. Search GOOGLE as follow: type: Organic Cold Pressed Flaxseed Oil and enter, then click on Flaxseed Oil Super, Cold Pressed, 100% Organic (20%) Lignan This is the one I used to buy. NOTE: once you open the bottle of oil, you MUST tighten the bottle cap and place it immediately in the refrigerator. Store: Whole Foods Market (see store locations for your area) or any other similar store where organic food is sold. Dr. Budwig also recommends that a change in your lifestyle regarding your nutrition should also take place. Avoid saturated fats and any other unhealthy food. You will be glad you did. I am buying the book again and starting taking the flaxseed oil again since I neglected to do so when I returned to the USA. In your case, and with any other thing, you have to be consistent to get results. You should also consult with your doctor to find out what the interaction would be (if any) with the prescription medication you are currently taking. Perhaps your doctor will recommend the best time of the day to take the oil. Good luck and good health! A. Cabrera, Louisiana. I have LOTS AND LOTS of Aloe Vera plants and am on the computer all the time. I keep an aloe "spear" by the computer and have rubbed it on my forehead age spots and a small dark mole. It burns a little, smells like a pepper, but works. Over the course of a couple of months the spots and mole decreased and faded away. Now, some have returned since I haven't been as "religious" about using the aloe, but as I have started up again I know they will fade away. GET AN ALOE PLANT. Treat as a cactus, low water, indirect sun, not shade in the house and it will propogate-quickly replacing the "spears" you break off and use. You should use sun block and take extra care when going out in the sun. Also consult with your physician for any possible hormonal changes or low iron levels. I had an expensive peel & it made them works, bringing more out & darker. I have used bleaching creams & nothing has worked. I have been to derm & it seems they just want give whatever creams & keep asking me to come back, none of that is working. After reading these reviews, I started using the lemon juice last night & will also be trying the Castrol Oil, both twice a day & I'm praying for some results as some of you have had. I'm 42 & no longer feel sexy or comfortable around people, I hate the spots on my face & they do make you feel older. It's horrible!!! If these remedies work I will be telling my sisters who also have dark age spots/sun damage to try, we have nothing to loose, except hopefully fading of the spots or a miracle & they completely disappear. I will keep you all posted. If anyone else has had good results please post them, I love to think there is hope. Posted by Anonoymous on Aug 18 2009 00:36:32 P.S: For those that don't know what a Garlic Press is, it is a hand-held gadget used for extracting juice from a Garlic Bulb. They are cheap to purchase and most probably one can be found in even a $-store and most definitely in any home kitchen utensil department. A Q-Tip works well for application of the mixture. Posted by Anonoymous on Aug 18 2009 00:24:19 For the mixture of Apple Cider Vinegar and Onion Juice...prepare the latter as follows: Peel off outer layer of onion, cut into chunks suitable for the size of a Garlic Press. Fill press with a chunck and press over a small bowl. Measure quantity and transfer to a air-tight glass container. Add equal amount of Apple Cider Vinegar. (I found this method works better than a sieve/cheese cloth. One medium onion shud yield about 4 TBSPS. of juice. Rinse the press occasionally during preparation.) I'm vegan and I still think it's weird to use digital impulses for health but it's been working and apparently it's been giving him a detox from heavy metals as a side effect. 8-\ Still wary, but if it helps it helps. Personally I use the Apple Cider Vinegar and it's the best stuff I've found out there for general feel-good stuff. That 3 tsps to a hot mug of water is goodness. Now I'm going to say first; change your diet, drink more SPRING water, de-stress, stretch a lot, quit ALL dairy (dairy calcium is acidic and depletes human calcium stores, YOUR Mom's milk had human friendly calcium- cows don't), don't drink alcahol, all that is going to help an immune system and ward off disease that's caused by who-only-knows-what. However, in leiu of sounding like an advertisement, some knowledgeable people have been using this zapper thing and it seems to work. I would only ever use it as a last resort and not as this 'maintainance' this they hawk it as but supposedly it keeps cancer cells from attaching to healthy tissue. That's why I'm throwing it out there. DO YOUR RESEARCH! I'm only saying anything because of the lady who posted about her cancer and this is something people I know personally who know their sh*t endorse and have been talking about. The gentle bleaching action of lemon juice helps fade away the acne scars and an active ingredient of lemon juice Alpha Hydroxy Acid works as an exfoliant for skin. Hi Karan, A simple remedy for dark circles and dark spots is to dip 2 chamomile tea bags in warm water. After 5 minutes, remove the tea bags from the water and let them cool to room temperature or a bit cooler. Then place them on your eyes and cheeks at night as a compress for about 15 minutes. Chamomile is known to help with lightening the skin. Usually these kind of dark brown spots are triggered by both sun exposure and/or hormonal changes. You should take extra care when going out in the sun and consult your physician for any possible hormonal changes. I looked around the web and did some research - when I ran across site that had recommended the Made from Earth skin care line. I went to their website (www.madefromearth.com) and found their Rosehip % Hibiscus Face Serum / moisturizer. The description sounded promising, and I figured that I had nothing to lose, so I ordered it. After about 3 months of use, my skin is looking very nicely toned and the spots are fading rather quickly. Once you apply this moisturizer, you'll instantly notice how it makes your skin silky smooth. I find it to smell very pleasant - almost like the hibiscus flower. Overall, don't expect this product to work immediately, you have to give it a little while, and I assure you that you won't be disappointed. Plus, for a chemical free and organic face cream the price is just perfect. Posted by Jennifer on Apr 28 2009 15:50:43 Michele, In the morning I pull out a fresh lemon from my fridge--cut a small slice and rub it into my forhead where I have the age spot. I do the same at night about an hour before bed. I have been doing this for 4 weeks now. The hyperpigmintation has faded in HALF. In some areas it has completly dissapeared!!! The lemon juice dries out your skin some...so after I wash it off, I apply avocado oil to deeply mosturize my skin. It greatly helps. Everyone I know now is telling me they hardly see it at all anymore. Over 1 month ago...not even the heaviest makeup could cover it up. Posted by Isabella on Jan 20 2007 14:40:16 I need help for my age spots Age spots are most commonly known as liver spots or brown spots. These are thought to be due to over aging. But the main reason for these brown spots is over exposure to the sun. These are brown colored spots on the skin mainly seen on the face, shoulders, arms or exposed areas of the skin. They are a result of excessive production of melanin. Melanin is the pigment in your skin responsible for uneven tanning. Such brown or sun spots may also be the telltale sign of accumulated wastes or some dysfunction. Age spots are pigmentary changes associated with mature and senile skin but the damage is not due to maturity, these spots and leathery skin are almost always the result of your body trying to protect itself from too much sun exposure. Age spots are common after 55 years old. They are harmless and painless but may affect the cosmetic appearance. Though most age spots are harmless blemishes, but in advanced stage they can lead to skin cancer. Age spots may also be caused by impaired liver function, and a dietary deficiency, or a variety of nutritional problems. As we advance in age our health changes, our metabolism changes and our liver may become so overloaded with toxins that it cannot efficiently process the toxins or help the body to get rid of them. The oxidation process within our body and a lack of antioxidants also plays a role in this process. Liver spots are one of the results. Liver spots typically take years to form, though they have been found in young children, and eliminating the spots will also take time. HOME REMEDIES FOR AGE SPOT REMOVAL Use the bleach that contains lactic acid as it helps to remove the upper layer of the dead skin much faster. Take juice of fresh garlic and rub it on with a cotton ball twice daily where the age spots are, and in six to eight weeks, they should begin to fade away. If you have to be outside during this hour, try to wear a hat, sunglasses that protect your eyes from UV rays. "Natural" does not mean it is safe for everybody. To get rid of age spots: Apply lemon juice at least twice a day. You may also try a cream of yogurt with honey (equal parts of each). Apply once daily, let sit for half an hour and then wash. Another good home remedy for age spots is to extract the gel from an aloe vera leaf and apply it twice a day. Also, applying whey or buttermilk has been a very common remedy through the years. honey and powdered cinnamon, leave on for 20 mins and clean off.... sounds very disgusting but works.... DONT FORGET TO MOISTURIZE AFTERWARDS....:p Take selenium and the herbs ginseng, dandelion, liquorice, gotu kola, and sarsaparilla in capsule or tea form. A good home remedy to reduce age spot coloration is to apply cod liver oil or vitamin E oil to the affected areas daily. *** Selenium and Herbs Age Spots Home Remedies To treat age spots try selenium, and various herbs including: dandelion, liquorice, dandelion, gotu kola, and sarsaparilla in capsule or tea form. *** Take pure lemon juice and rub it on your skin (thank goodness it works for freckles too), then moisturize the skin. Make sure you dont rinse first. *** Lemon Juice Home Remedy for Age Spots A useful home remedy for age spots is to use fresh lemon juice every day until the age spots are reduced or removed.

*** Apply powdered cinnamon and honey to the affected area and leave on for 20 minutes, then clean off. This sounds disgusting, but it really works! ALSO, DO NOT FORGET TO MOISTURIZE AFTERWARD *** The best home remedy for treating age spots will not have to do with the outside the body because age spots originate on the inside of the body. Using a proper colon cleanse and liver cleanse after time will eliminate age spots from where they formed. Again, not the outside but the inside of the body. This is not only a cosmetic issue but is also a toxic accumulation issue. Thats why they are hardly seen on younger people but are more common on older people. *** Talk about a spotty reputation! Heck, most people can't agree on what to call these unappealing but otherwise harmless dark spots that usually occur on the forehead and the back of the hands and arms. Some folks think age spots are caused by old age--an understandable mistake, since the spots are extremely common after age 55 and rarely appear before middle age. Others know them as liver spots. The appearance of these dark, blotchy spots can be scary-resembling the early forms of skin cancer to the untrained eye. But genuine age spots are really nothing more than "adult freckles" that result from overexposure to the sun. (However, if you notice an increase in size or "bizarre" color changes, see your doctor immediately.) "Age spots should really be called sun spots, because they are caused by being out in the sun," says D'Anne Kleinsmith, M.D., a cosmetic dermatologist at William Beaumont Hospital near Detroit. "They have absolutely nothing to do with your liver and little to do with your age, other than the fact that they usually occur on older people." Still, they are unbecoming. Sometimes they may be raised and look like tiny moles. Usually, though, they're just like dark, smooth freckles. If you've had them, you've probably noticed that they seem to appear suddenly on sun-exposed skin areas (usually areas not protected with sunscreen). So here's what to do about liver spots ... er, age sp ... uh, lentigines (their medical name). Get help from hydroquinone. This safe "lightening agent" is found in products such as Porcelana and Esoterica that you can obtain without a prescription. Hydroquinone helps lighten age spots until they become unnoticeable. "Dab it on the individual spots with a cotton ball," says Dr. Kleinsmith. But don't expect overnight success: This therapy usually takes a month or two before you see any results. Follow the directions on the package and try to dab the medication right on the spots, so you don't "bleach" the pigment in nonaffected skin. Suncreen Each Day Keeps Age Spots Away The best way to avoid ever having age spots is to use a good-quality sunscreen each time you go outdoors, including when it's overcast. And if you already have age spots, sunscreen will keep them from darkening and will help prevent new ones. Either way, remember the "15" rules. Look for a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. Unprotected, the average person's skin turns red--a signal of overexposure--after just 30 minutes. But with SPF 15 sunscreen, you can stay out 15 times as long, or seven hours, with the same effect (although it's not recommended). Apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before going outdoors. That way, the skin has a chance to absorb it. Shed away "spotted" skin. Lac-Hydrin Five lotion, another nonprescription remedy, contains lactic acid. "The acid can help bleaching agents work faster by enhancing the normal shedding of upper, 'dead' skin layers," says Michael Ramsey, M.D., clinical instructor of dermatology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. This leaves a lighter layer of skin underneath. Reach for lemon aid. "The juice of a fresh lemon is acidic enough to safely peel off the upper layer of skin, which will remove or lighten some age spots," says Jerome Z. Litt, M.D., assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. "Rub it on with a cotton ball twice daily where the age spots are, and in six to eight weeks, they should begin to fade away." How about an onion rub? Rubbing a piece of sliced red onion on age spots can have the same fading effect, "since it has the same peeling acid as fresh lemon juice," adds Dr. Litt. Use castor oil for smooth relief. "If the surface of individual lesions appears rougher than surrounding skin--which often occurs with age spots--applying castor oil twice daily with a cotton swab will sometimes bring about improvement, says Dr. Ramsey. On larger lesions, a bandage applied with the castor oil at nighttime may speed improvement. Be a shady character. "Since age spots are caused by excessive sun exposure, avoid the sun and you'll avoid age spots," suggests Albert M. Kligman, M.D., Ph.D., professor of dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. "You will never see an age spot on someone who stays in the shade." If you already have age spots, limiting sun exposure will help prevent them from darkening and will minimize a recurrence or the appearance of new ones. Cover 'em up. If all else fails in trying to remedy them, hide them. "Many types of makeup can cover the spots," says Edward Bondi, M.D., a dermatologist who is affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, "If they are really dark spots, a heavier-based makeup will work, but if they're not so bad, then many water-based types will do the trick. A product called Covermark has routinely been used to hide age spots." Note: If you suffer from acne, avoid heavier oil-based makeups, because they can worsen blemishes. Aging Eyes << Previous Chapter Next Chapter >>

It happens to a lot of people around age 40. You begin to realize it takes a Herculean effort to read the newspaper or the tiny type on a food package or an aspirin bottle. As for threading a needle or removing a splinter--forget it! These simple tasks have become impossible feats. That's because anything closer than an arm's length from your eyes is now one big blur. You're not alone. If your far-away vision is fine (with or without corrective eyewear) but your close-up vision is fuzzier than a teddy bear's coat, blame it on an inflexible lens. And it's a problem as common as crow's feet and silver hair. When to See a Doctor Gradual changes in vision as you age are normal, but a sudden change in your vision--no matter what your age--isn't, says Bruce Rosenthal, O.D., professor and chief of low vision services at the State University of New York College of Optometry in New York City. "Blurred vision can be a first sign of eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration or cataracts, which can seriously impair your vision." Other conditions that can cause cloudy vision include diabetes, pregnancy, side effects of medications, anemia, kidney disease and optic nerve disease. So it's important to see a doctor as soon as possible if there's any sudden blurriness in your near or distant vision. Around age 40, you may find it's more difficult to focus on near objects, particularly printed words when you're reading. Doctors call this presbyopia. But before you shell out the green stuff for special prescription glasses, these tips may help you fine-tune your focusing. Do the fine print sprint. "Part of the problem of the aging eye is that the lens becomes less flexible," says Bruce Rosenthal, O.D., professor and chief of low vision services at the State University of New York College of Optometry in New York City. "If you exercise the muscles that control the shape of the lens, it may be possible to delay near-point fuzziness to some degree." One exercise involves cutting headlines of decreasing size out of the newspaper and affixing each one to a pencil. Then hold the largest headline about a foot away from your face. Gradually bring it in toward your nose, trying to keep the print in focus. Move the headline back out again. Repeat with the next smaller headline, then the rest, until you have looked at all the headlines. "With practice, you may be able to read even the tiniest labels on medicine bottle with no difficulty," says Dr. Rosenthal. Follow the bouncing thumb. To keep your eye muscles fully flexed, hold out your thumb at arm's length. Move it in circles, then in figure eights, closer and farther away. Follow it with your eyes. This helps keep the fine motor system of your eyes in working order, says Dr. Rosenthal, Switch frequently from near to far. If you keep your eyes fixed for long periods on a computer screen, for example, your eye muscles can temporarily become stuck. This slows focusing when you try to zoom from near to far and back again, says Dr. Rosenthal. To keep your eye muscles loose, look up every ten minutes and focus on a poster located about eight feet away. Then look back at the words on the computer screen. Shift your focus back and forth repeatedly for 30 seconds. Invest in brighter bulbs. As your eyes age, you may begin to need more light for everyday activities. In fact, by age 60, you could need six times as much light as you did at age 20 to perform the same tasks, according to Dr. Rosenthal. "If you have better lighting, the pupils become smaller, and the amount of blur you experience may be less," says James Sheedy, O.D., Ph.D., associate clinical professor at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry. You may find that highwattage incandescent bulbs will help you see better than harsh fluorescent lights. How to Adjust to Bifocals If you have trouble with both near and distant vision, you may eventually end up with bifocals. But getting used to bifocals can be a lot like stumbling through a fun house filled with wavy mirrors. Be patient, says Joseph P. Shovlin, O.D., an optometrist at the Northeastern Eye Institute, with headquarters in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and chairman of the Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Association. "It can take from a few days to several weeks to get used to multifocal lenses." Be prepared for possible return visits to the optometrist for adjustments, since a dual-prescription lens often requires more precise measurements than a single-vision lens. Here are tips to focus on. Wear the glasses all day for the first week or two until you're accustomed to them, even though you may not need them for all tasks. Avoid looking at your feet when walking. Hold reading material closer to your body and lower your eyes, not your head, so that you are reading out of the lowest part of the lens. Fold the newspaper in half or quarters and move it, rather than your head, to read comfortably. Check out off-the-rack reading glasses. All you may need to read and see close up are simple magnifiers, says Richard P. Mills, M.D., professor of ophthalmology at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. "The drugstore demiglasses that come in about ten different powers are medically acceptable," says Dr. Mills. "Just make sure they have no optical distortion."

To find out, hold the glasses at arm's length, then look through them as you move them in a circular motion. If there's some "swim," or distortion, get another pair. If you find that these reading glasses give you a headache or tired eyes, however, you're better off with prescription glasses. MATURE SKIN TREATMENTS Age Spot Remover The question is, why does skin wrinkle? As you grow older, your body produces fewer of the hormones that keep skin healthy and supplies less oil, protein and natural moisturizing factors which attract and hold water in the skin. This process tends to make the skin drier. As time goes by, collagen and elastin (fibers arranged in a mesh-like pattern) eventually lose their strength, leaving the skin without underlying support and causing it to wrinkle and sag. Any person over 25 years of age has mature skin, lines start to form around age 30, if you smoke or spend too much time in the sun your skin will look older. Since mature skin does not produce as much oil and natural moisturizers, you will need to follow many of the treatments for dry skin. Herbs can be very important contributors to the development of new cells and several herbs like lavender, neroli, rosemary, rose, and fennel, have been nicknamed centuries ago anti-aging herbs. Antioxidants are also very important. They prevent the production of free radicals. These free radicals play an important role in all aspects of aging including hardening of the arteries. They are unstable, quickly multiplying molecules, which are increased by cigarette smoking and other pollutants. Many herbs and vitamins have antioxidant properties and are very powerful in stopping free radicals on their tracks. Some antioxidant herbs are gingko, witch hazel, and essential oil of rosemary, marjoram, and lavender. Age Spot Remover. 1 tsp. grated horseradish root. tsp. lemon juice. tsp. vinegar. 3 drops rosemary essential oil. Mix ingredients. Keep away from eyes. Apply as needed on affected areas. Toner for Mature Skin. 2 ounces aloe vera gel. 2 ounces orange blossom water. 1 tsp. vinegar. 6 drops rose geranium essential oil. 4 drops frankincense essential oil. 4 drops carrot seed essential oil. 800 IU vitamin E oil. Mix ingredients, apply as needed. Home Remedies for Wrinkles Wrinkles form when the skin thins and looses its elasticity. The appearance of some wrinklesis due to aging, and is the most common common skin problem for women. One of the first signs of wrinkles normally appear around the eye, and is called " crow's feet". As time goes by the cheeks and lips are the next thing we notice. As we age, our skin becomes thinner and dryer, both factors contribute to the formation of wrinkles. There are many factors that can contribute in the development of wrinkles some of which are: diet and nutrition, muscle tone, pollution, habitual facial expressions, chemicals, stress, improper skin care, and lifestylehabits such as smoking. The most important factor is sun exposure, which is your skin's worst enemy, because dries the skin and leads to the generation of free radicals that can damage skin cells. Researches show that 90% of what we think os as sigs of age are actually sigs of overexposure to sunlight. Furthermore, approximately 70% of sun damage comes from everyday activities, as driving andwalking to and from your car. The ultraviolet-A rays that cause this enormous damage are present all day long in all seasons. These ultraviolet-A rays wear away the elasticity of the skin, causing wrinkling. The worst part is that the effects of the sun are accumulative, although they may not be noticeable for many years. TIP:Did you know that natural beauty products are not always as advertised ?. Manufacturers say that their products contain natural ingredients. But the reality is that they contain tiny amounts compared to the artificial substances used. You find out by looking at the label of the product. The ingredients are listed in descending order, starting with the greatest amount contained. For example a product may be labeled as rosemary, but in the label shows only chemicals and artificial substances and not a drop of pure rosemary. We recommed: Home Remedies for Wrinkles #1: Eat a balanced diet including fruits, vegetables, whole grain foods, seeds, nuts and legumes. Home Remedies for Wrinkles #2: Drink plenty of fluid every day. This help to keep the skin hydrated and to flush away toxins. Home Remedies for Wrinkles #3: Obtain fatty acids from cold pressed vegetable oils. Home Remedies for Wrinkles #4: Avoid alcohol, caffeine and cigarettes, they dry the skin encouraging the development of wrinkles. Also the smoking habit uses the lips muscles hundreds of times a day, whichcontributes wrinkling. Home Remedies for Wrinkles #5: Always protect your skin from the sun applying a sunscreen whit a sun protection factor ( SPF) of at least 15 to all exposed areas of the skin.

Home Remedies for Wrinkles #6: Avoid alcohol- based products. Use hazel or an herbal/ floral water instead. Home Remedies for Wrinkles #7: Avoid using harsh soaps or solid cleansing creams, instead use natural oils such as avocado oil to remove dirt and makeup. Home Remedies for Wrinkles #8: Do not apply heavy oils around the eye area before going to bed, it may cause the eye to be puffy in the morning. Home Remedies for Skin blemish Skin Blemish Remover 1/4 cup of water. 1 tsp. Epson salts. 4 drops lavender essential oil. Small cloth. Mix water and salts, once the salts has dissolved, add lavender. Soak a cotton cloth and compress on affected area. When cloth cools soak it again and repeat several times. Home Remedies For Dermatitis Dermantitis home remedies Eczema home remedies As we all know the skin is the largest organ in the body and the most visible, so any condition affecting it is impossible to ignore. The skin is not only exposed to cut, burns, bruises and scrapes, it can also develop diseases just like any other part of the body. Dermatitis or Eczema is an inflammatory skin condition that produces blisters, redness, scaling, flaking, thickening, weeping, crusting, color changes and itching that can be very annoying. Many times Dermatitis/eczema is allergic in nature mainly by coming in contact with different materials, chemicals or plants, such as, rubber, latex, perfumes, gold, silver, poison ivy, soap, cosmetics etc. People with thin dry skin are prone to develop dermatitis/eczema and other skin conditions. People suffering from dermatitis/eczema are sensitive to some of the items listed above and should be mindful of their condition and avoid contact with any irritant. Prolonged exposure to the materials may worsen the symptoms and cause the dermatitis to spread. Home Remedies for Age Spots Home remedies for age spots include, lemon juice, onion, apple cider vinegar, aloe vera juice, castor oil, olive oil, cucumber, papaya, orange juice, butter milk, garlic, dandelion, radish, rosemary oil, rose water, sandal powder, shade, and covering the spots etc. Home remedies for age spots assist in getting rid of small brownish colored lesion found in individuals of old age. These spots are sometimes also referred to as lentigines or liver spots, and are painless. These usually appear at neck, forehead, face, back, hands and feet. Although named as liver spots, they have no relevance with liver disorder. It is sometimes mistaken of being cancerous by common man, which is not correct.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, these are formed due to prolonged exposure to the sun. Sun rays tend to cause deposition of melanin at a localized area leading to appearance of age spots. Apart from the above cause, prolonged tenure of disease or sickness also tends to cause age spots. There are several home remedies for age spots, which certainly do good work in eliminating the age spots. However, these spots take quite sometime to form and thus, to erase them completely certainly takes time, but it is possible for sure. Lemon Juice: Lemon Juice acts as bleach and is a regular component of many fairness and bleaching creams. It must be applied at the age spots twice a day. According to the Doctors Book of Home Remedy, when this treatment is given for six to eight weeks, the age spots will surely begin to disappear. Onion and Apple Cider Vinegar: Blend an onion and drain it with the help of strainer in a bowl. Mix an equal amount of apple cider vinegar to this and apply over the spots by a cotton swab dipped in this decoction. This has also shown improved results in 5 to 6 months. Apple Cider Vinegar: Few drops of apple cider vinegar can be added to a glass of water and drunk. One can add honey to refine the taste. Aloe Vera Juice: Aloe Vera is found to have tremendous potential in treating dermatological situations like burns etc. Gel or juice obtained from Aloe Vera can be directly rubbed on spotted regions to get rid of them. Castor Oil: These age spots are sometimes rough in texture. If this is the case, one can apply castor oil twice a day for few months to see improvement in the appearance of the same. Olive Oil and Vinegar: A spoonful of vinegar and olive oil each can be mixed and applied on the spots. This is washed in half an hour using water. This is a useful home remedy for erasing age spot. Cucumber: Slices of cucumber or its juice is very effective in removing age spots. Papaya: Raw papaya can be grated and rubbed on the spotted area and is washed after few minutes. This must be followed every day to get good results. Orange Juice and Apple Cider Vinegar: 2 to 3 spoons of orange juice can be mixed in half spoon of apple cider vinegar. This must be applied over the darkened regions for around a month. This also yields promising results. Butter Milk and Tomato: Butter milk and tomato juice can be applied over age spots to get encouraging results in removal of spots. Garlic: Paste made up of garlic has been observed to be efficient in treating age spots. Dandelion: Dandelion stem is proved to cure a number of skin problems. Age spots too can be effectively treated by consuming it every day. Radish, Vinegar, Lime Juice and Rosemary Oil: A concoction of juice of lime, radish, rosemary oil and vinegar is prepared and applied over the spot. This not only cleans the skin but also brightens it up. Rose Water and Sandal Powder: Both of these are prepared and applied as a mask over the relevant site. This is allowed to dry followed by washing with fresh water. This is also effective in removing age spots. Shade: Individuals, who stay indoors or under shade, never come up with the problems of age spots. Thus you should try to stay in shady areas to avoid these blotchy appearances on the skin. Covering the Spots: The areas under age spots must be kept covered to prevent further darkening. Rest of the skin should also be protected by covering so as not to develop more age spots. For an inexpensive facial peel that works, Miracle Whip (no really!!) Spread Miracle Whip (Only Miracle Whip, regular mayo won't work)all over your face, careful around eyes ,fumes might make your eyes tear till you get used to it. Leave on 20 min. or so, then use fingers or a paper towel to rub your face, dead skin balls up and comes off(do this over sink) Wash your face 2-3 times(or take a shower)to get the rest of the Miracle Whip off. Apply your regular moisturizer. I do this about once a month. 1 comments | rating: 4 (24 votes) |

Olive oil is great for skin. So what i do is make a mixture of 1/2 cup of vinegar( organic apple cidar vinegar is best) 1/4 cup water and 1 cup f olive oil I mix it together in a old water bottle(Like a dasani bootle) You then wash your face with whatever it is u wash your face with then you don't dry your face off!!! You get you bottle of olive oil mixture, shake it up so everthing mixes and pour some into the cap of the bottle. Apply it to your face while your face is still wet. Leave it on overnight. You probally want to do this every otherday. Your face will have a glow and be soo soft...... Another olive oil mixture is mix 3 tablespoons of salt with 2 table spoons of olive oil. Apply it to your face being careful not to get it in your eyes.Move your hands in a circular motion just as you would as if u were cleaning your face. Then rinse. Then wash your face with your regular face wash. Do this every day for about a week then do it ever 2-3 days a week. 0 comments | rating: 6 (48 votes) |

Peppermint Face Pack You would need one teaspoon of peppermint extract, one teaspoon of witch hazel extract, 125grams of brewer's yeast and one teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix all the ingredients together. Apply on the face, forehead and relax by lying horizontally keeping the eyes closed. Leave it for 30 minutes. Then wash off with lukewarm water containing a little of lemon juice. This face pack is very good for patchy skin. It is also good for improving blood circulation. 0 comments | rating: 4 (6 votes) |

Emu oil with a bit of DMSO every night rubbed in well, right after washing my face with ponds coldcream and rinsing well by splashing tepid water on my face (blotting with towel but leaving moisture) you won't believe the results on lines, blemishes, dark circles EVERYTHING:)The only drawback is that DMSO makes you smell kind of awful, so you might just want to use the emu oil, it's great stuff all by it's self. 1 comments | rating: 4 (6 votes) |

ACUPRESSURE 10/02/2007: Susan from Porterville, California writes: "I read the email dated 7/25/07 from Teresa of Morristown Tennessee on her routine for Fountain of Youth. She mentioned getting acupressure techniques for the face from a book written in the 1970's. I am wanting to find out the name of this book and the author. Is there anyway you can get this information for me? Thank you." Replies 07/25/2007: Teresa from Morristown, Tennessee replies: "I'm 44 and recently had a 19 year old ask me out. I bend over for a few minutes at least once a day to let the blood rush into my face. I also use facial accupressure techniques, which I found out how to do from reading an old book written in the '70s. I've been doing shiatisu facial massage on myself for twenty years, I found this in a book. I also mix rose hips and vitamin E oil and a few drops of ACV into peanut oil and rub my body and face down nightly. I recently started color breathing where you inhale the imagined color pink, (Yvonne Martine's technique) and this is like a mini face lift!" EC: We went searching just now and found a book in our collection from 1976 called Shiatzu Japanese Pressure Point MassageZone Therapy Book by Anika Bergson and Vladimir Tuchak. It covers the entire body, not just the face but may be the book Teresa is referring to. Another book by Anika Bergson from 1974 is Zone Therapy Acupressure Techniques. You can buy these books on Amazon for pennies. 10/03/2007: Susan from Porterville, California replies: "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for the information you were able to give me about the books on acupressure. I ordered both books today. I discovered your website about 3 weeks ago and LOVE it! I am 56 years old and I want to stave off the signs of ageing with natural items as opposed to commercial products. I have begun taking the ACV, baking soda and water twice a day and after only 3 weeks I have noticed a brightness and deweyness to my skin. I am going to start adding the Blackstrap molasses as well. As soon as I receive the books on Shiatzu I will incorporate those exercises along with the ACV formula. Thank you again for all your help." 10/10/2008: Teresa from Morristown , TN replies: "I just read the comment from Susan of Porterville, Ca requesting the name of the book I use for acupressure. One book I find invaluable is Acupressure, Acupuncture Without Needles, The Miracle of Chinese Healing Through your Fingertips by J.V. Cerney. The publisher was Cornerstone Library, NY and the book was republished in 1976 after initially being published in 1974. I'm sorry I haven't answered before but I painted my house and I couldn't lay hands on the book. I just found it today. I have another good acupressure book. When I find it, I'll write and give you the title and author." 11/25/2008: Therese from Ontario, Canada replies: "Teresa From Morristown, Tenessee Can you please tell me if the peanut il that you use is the kind form the grocery store that you cook with and also the measurements approx of the Rose hip, vitamin E peanut oil and ACV that you use? Thanks" 06/07/2009: Teresa from Morristown, Tennessee replies: "I just go out in my yard and harvest some wild rose hips. It doesn't matter how much. I take whatever I can find on the rose bushes. I bruise them with the back of a spoon to get them open so the rose hip juice can absorb into the peanut oil. Then I use commercial store bought peanut oil (wish I could afford organic) and fill most of a bottle with it, covering the bruised rose hips and add a dash of vitamin E and a dash of apple cider vinegar. I recently started adding a few drops of orange essential oil because I read about a study scientists did showing that orange scent caused people to appear six years younger." [SIDE EFFECTS] 09/22/2009: Azg from Toronto, On replies: "So I thought I'd make a Turmeric Face Mask as I did some research and discovered it's great for toning oily skin and helping to clear up blemishes. A little bit of background. I've pretty much had perfect skin my whole life. Then I had my son. He's now 2. Ever since I was pregnant I started having problem skin. It's gone up and down, but about 2 or 3 weeks ago it got really bad. It's mostly on my cheeks and there are a ton of tiny bumps and a few of the deep red puffy ones. It's driving me crazy. I came across this site two days ago and I've been drinking 2 teaspoons of Raw, Unfiltered Organic ACV in 1 cup of water, three times a day. I feel energized! I read about people having reactions to the bad bacteria dying off, so I thought I'd combat it with some hydrated Bentonite in the morning on an empty stomach. So far, so good. (but I'm pretty healthy and I eat really healthy and have done mini-cleanses in the past on a fairly regular basis, so the "die off reactions" weren't really a concern for me). I'm also adding about 30 drops of an organic liver tonic (that's mostly Milk Thistle based) to a shot of water, 3 times a day. I think I'll start oil pulling next week too. Anyway, I came across this thread here and thought I'd do a turmeric mask. So I made my own and I'll give you reasons for each ingredient added: 2 tablespoons Turmeric (it's the active ingredient here right?) 1 teaspoon honey (it's in most Turmeric masks, plus it's a humectant - meaning it pulls moisture out of the air and into your skin...it's great for skin health) 1 teaspoon castor oil (it's a deep cleanser and slightly drying) 3 drops Sage Oil (it's great for oily skin) 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice (it's toning and tightening) 1 tablespoon of milk (to make a paste) I put it on my freshly washed face and let it sit for 15 minutes. It tingled a little. Maybe it was the lemon juice? Maybe it was the copious amounts of turmeric?!? I'm yellow. My face is yellow. I rinsed it off and everyone in the house had a good laugh at my expense. I'm like an Oompah Loompah...but yellow. I applied a 50/50 ACV/Water combo to my face with cotton pads, twice. Both pads came away YELLOW. I rinsed with more water. I gently rubbed with a towel (more yellow came off). But I gave up... I don't want to overdo it with the exfoliation. I figure I

can try to get some more of it off tomorrow morning. I moisturized with a little organic jojoba oil and 1 drop of organic sage essential oil. I did some thinking... I think the reason I turned yellow is because of the oils I added to the mask. The turmeric stains the oils yellow, which penetrate deeply into the skin and leave their yellow tinge behind. So be warned. If you decide to do this turmeric mask, DON'T ADD OILS. I will try this mask again in a few days but without the oils... I shall report back then. In the meantime feel free to laugh at me. LOL. I am..." [SIDE EFFECTS] 09/22/2009: Stephanie from East Grand Forks, Mn Usa replies: "I also tried putting on a "turmeric face mask" but I didn't add any oils and my face also turned yellow. My fingers were yellow as well as my pillow case. Maybe turmeric is better being ingested rather than applied topically." 09/23/2009: Tricia from Ireland replies: "I know the feeling. I had to lie through my teeth after mixing HP with ACV instead of HP with borax......very embarrassing and all you can do is laugh. I have very fair skin with a lot of redness. When I want a tumeric mask I just mix it with VCO and leave it on for 10 min at the most and it always comes off quite easily. Maybe it was the type of oils that you used." 09/23/2009: Bee from Mo, Usa replies: "I was worried about turmeric staining as I have fair skin, but I put some turmeric with raw honey and used it as a mask (didn't measure, just threw some together). It washed off just fine, only problem was my fingernails stayed a bit yellow. It seems to tone the skin a bit, I'm hoping it will help reduce my acne." 09/23/2009: Lita209 from Sanford, Fl replies: "I too have done the turmeric mask with coconut oil and honey and I haven't had any problems taking it off. I am thinking that when I make salads with cilantro I usually put lemon juice because it accentuates the flavor of the cilantro, so maybe the lemon juice had to do with it? Just try it without the lemon juice. Good luck!" 09/24/2009: T from Maryland, Usa replies: "I tried this last night on my fair skin using Che's recipe, and it washed off ok. After rinsing I used a microfiber cloth to get the last residue off due to the oil. Then I rubbed in some VCO and blotted off the excess. My skin was very smooth and felt well hydrated. The oil may be a key to preventing staining. I have also read of masks using turmeric mixed with yogurt...will have to look into that." [YEA] 09/27/2009: Azg from Toronto, On replies: "Thank you to Lita209 from Sanford who recommended I try the Turmeric Mask without Lemon Juice... I just did that and it came out great! I changed the mask up a little bit and I'll post that recipe as well... I did turn a tiny bit yellow, but rinsing well and toning with ACV on a cotton pad helped to remove the residual yellow tinge from my skin! My skin feels taut and supple. My pores appear smaller, my skin is smoother and softer. If only someone had a remedy for helping fade the reddish/brownish spots that the pimples have left behind. I have been drinking 2 tsp of ACV in 1 cup of water AT LEAST 3 x per day. My water intake has been about 8 cups of water every day. I've just added Vitamin C to my diet and am slowly building up to 3000mg... I want to get it up to 5000mg but don't want to do it suddenly as I've heard that can cause diarrhea. I've done this Turmeric Mask twice now, but plan to do one every day for the next little while to see if it can help my skin. I've also been toning my skin at least once a day with a mild ACV/Water combo on a cotton pad and it's been helping. I discovered sage essential oil is really really nice for balancing the oils in my skin. You should premix about 3 drops of it in 510mL of a carrier oil (try Organic Coconut Oil or Organic Jojoba Oil). Be careful to not overdo it as it can dehydrate your skin... your skin should feel smooth and supple after you've applied the oil combo (as a moisturizer). If it feels rough you've overdone it with the Sage Oil, dilute the combo with some more Coconut/Jojoba Oil for the next time you moisturize.. I've been cooking with Turmeric for a long time now, as a long time ago I read that people in India have the lowest incidences of cancers and Alzheimer's Disease in the world and that a lot of people attribute it to Turmeric. I think I'll try drinking it with milk to see if I can increase Turmeric content in my day-to-day life... Does anyone have any all natural at home remedies for helping to fade my acne spots (they're not really scars, just spots) internally and/or externally? THANKS!" You look pale."-- Yes I do look pale and I could not be happier- my long struggle to rid myself of this debilitating condition has paid off. I take ACV 3 x one tablespoon x three times a day with water. I use ACV topically about three times a day. Sometimes I follow this with a yoghurt face mask- I also use the Turmeric face mask about twice a week. I take turmeric in my breakfast apple with Yogurt ( I always grind a little balck pepper on the tumeric as this helps the body to absorb the it ). I have been using a mixture of a few drops of blackseed oil, neem oil and jojoba oil, triple strenth rosewater, colloidal silver and MSM before bed. Plus in the last four days I started the Mini beet protocol which I think is responsible for getting rid of the spots on my face- as this was all that was left after all the above treatments- I had controlled the redness almost completly but now the spots have all but faded. The problem is it is hard to say what has done the trick. Using the minibeet protocol needs care because of detox effects - thus far I have had no problems. My skin is glowing, soft and smooth and no spots!!! I hope this helps- best of luck."

I see some people have turned yellow using the face mask recipes. One thing I notice is that Lita's recipe only calls for a teaspoon of turmeric, while some of the people who turned yellow used as much as 1-2 tablespoons of turmeric--that's 3-6 times more! I plan to start with just 1/2 tsp and to do a test first on my inner arm near the elbow crease. Even natural remedies have to be used responsibly--no one thing works perfectly for every one. And that said, I love this site!" 12/26/2009: Pam from Brooklyn, Ny replies: "Honey has a heaping amount of Vitamins and minerals, All i do is; 1 tablespoon of honey to a teaspoon of Turmeric. Even with a teaspoon, it takes a bit of effort to get it all off, but a turmeric mask is definitely worth it. Just gotta remember, a little dab'll do Ya' ;) I can't say whether the additional ingredients make it more inclined to stain the skin, but I will say it isn't necessary to doctor it up like that. Just the two simple ingredients, T/honey and t/turmeric make a wonderfully good mask." [WARNING!] 01/26/2011: Diane from Berkeley, Ca replies: "Turmeric stains skin. Period. If you are fair, it can last for days. In India where a haldi mask is applied to arms/legs before weddings it gives a golden glow. Here in the US, when I do it it turns this pasty-pale chick yellow for days if applied straight. If I dilute a 1/4 tsp or so with besan and yogurt as a mask it will come off with enough scrubbing and not stain very deeply. But make no mistake, it stains. And the more of it you use, and the less it is diluted with other ingredients the harder it is to get off. Not a bad thing, but do be warned." 01/27/2011: Rob from Manhattan, Ny replies: "I take it internally as a tincture and notice within a few hours that my skin takes on a warmer, turmeric, tone... I think I have mild rosacea and the past two weeks for me have consisted of trying various EXPENSIVE products in hopes of finding a quality product to do the following: -even out my skin tone because it's often blotchy/reddish in spots -get rid of black heads (nose and chin are covered) -brighten up my skin (it looks rather dull and lifeless) -control the breakouts I get occasionally -and lastly, to find a moisturizer that's not too oily but makes my skin look supple and young, as it should for a 24 year old female who drinks lots of water, doesn't tan at all, doesn't smoke and rarely drinks. (My skin looks like I'm older than I am, sadly.) Anyhow, I digress. I applied the ACV, rinsed with cool water and for the first five minutes or so, it was fine. No problem, I though, this might just work. Well, after applying some Origins moisturizer that I haven't previously had a reaction to, my face

immediately started to tingle and I could literally watch it turn red. Now it's puffy in patches and looks like I have sun burn. I'm just wondering if it's possibly a reaction to the ACV alone or if it's the combo of the moisturizer in addition to the ACV. Any suggestions are more than welcome. I'm at my wits end with my skin. I just want it to look healthy! Thanks! Amber" Replies 03/07/2009: Dianna from Austin, Tx replies: "ACV is very strong. it is similar to a chemical peel on skin - it removes the top layer and also increases blood circulation to the skin. so redness is normal - but it should go away after about 30 minutes. try diluting the ACV 1/2 and 1/2 with water. if you still get this symptom - you can try a miracle whip facial: spread miracle whip (contains vinegar and other ingredients) on your face in a thin layer. leave it on for 10 minutes. then rub your face with your fingertips and little balls of stuff will come off. keep rubbing til no more ball of dead skin and miracle whip come off and then use a warm damp washcloth to steam your face. wipe your face clean and use cold water to splash your skin. also it would probably be good to do clay masks. you can get bentonite clay at the health food store and some grocery stores under the name of indian healing clay. this will clean out your pores and also take off the top layer of dead skin. i have had the best luck with using sandalwood powder to clean my skin. you can buy sandalwood powder very cheaply at indian grocery stores - it is called chandan. what i do is wet my face and hands and apply a small amount - 2 or three damp fingers dipped into the powder - onto my wet hands and massage it onto my face and neck. then i apply a warm damp cloth and steam my skin for a minute - and then wipe it off and rinse with warm and then cool water. afterwards i apply a tiny amount of virgin coconut oil or jojoba oil" 03/09/2009: Amber from Greensboro , NC replies: "Thanks for your response! :) I'll try this when I get home." 04/15/2009: Kula from Waimanalo, Hawaii replies: "Maybe you should start with a diet that will help you with your skin. At this point, after hearing a lot of other suggestions, you must always remember that not everything tried works just for anyone because the symptoms sound relative to your skin condition. You are describing a problem very common to everyone, but now, step out of the box, and think outside the box. You are so busy looking to "put something else" to treat your problem skin, when it looks as if you're "adding" more problems to your current and lasting situation. This sounds like it's time to change your diet first. Pay attention to your diet instead, and look at what you're eating. Your outer appearance reflects your insides. This may not be an "immediate" solution, but it is rewarding. Try this: Avocado is an awesome face food. It is abundant in essential oils and B-complex vitamins that will nourish your skin inside and out. Avocados contain a lot of niacin (vitamin B3) which is especially important for healthier skin. Niacin is anti-inflammatory, soothes irritated, red and blotchy skin. What you can do to intake your daily need is blend half an avocado with yogurt and frozen berries to make a creamy, nutty flavored morning smoothie. Mangoes contain vitamin A which maintains and repairs skin cells. It is also an antioxidant that fights free radical damage that can prematurely age the skin, which I read in your bio that you have a problem with. Almonds provide 150% of your daily need for vitamin E, which is great for your complexion. Cottage Cheese contains selenium which is an essential mineral, and combining it with vitamin E will create a powerful free radical-fighting antioxidant duo. Acerola cherries supplies 100% of your daily allowance for vitamin C. So, as an antioxidant, vitamin C fights skin damage and wrinkles, producing collagen, the structural protein in your skin. Oysters fight pimples because they are rich in zinc. The mineral affects sebum production, a deficiency may contribute to acne. Zinc also helps boost elastin (the skin's protein) production with the aid of vitamin C. Baked potatoes -- Eat one baked potato (w/skin); it is an essential mineral that works with vitamin C and zinc to produce the elastin fibers that support skin structure. Mushroom is rich in riboflavin (vitamin B2). Riboflavin is involved in tissue maintenance and repair, and improves skin blemishes caused by rosacea. Flaxseed oil is the best source of essential fatty acid that contains Omega 3s. 1tsp of flaxseed oil per day provides just enough Omega 3s to hydrate the skin. Keep in mind fatty acids also dilute sebum and unclog pores that otherwise leads to acne. Wheat Germ is a good source of biotin, a B vitamin that is crucial to skin health. Just sprinkle wheat germ on yogurt for a tasty way to get more biotin in your diet."

Just recently my husband suggested I put some on a cotton ball and use it for a couple of flare ups I had. And that was last week. I have developed adult acne and tried so many products--non have worked. I finally tried organic apple cider vinegar. I diluted ACV with water and with a cotton ball I cleaned my face (at night). The following morning my face was soft and the redness of my acne was cleared. I am happy! My daughter had severe sinus during the winter.....she started taking one teaspoon of ACV following one teaspoon of organic local honey and to our amazed her sinus cleared and she has not gotten it since:) This was a remedy her grandpa taught her and she is only ten years old and very commited to taking a teaspoon of ACV and honey everyday. How can I take baking soda as an exfoliator/drink? Also, I drank ACV and I saw differences such as more energy, and I am not restless at night any more. I then found out ( on E.C.) that i can use it as an exfoliator and tried it. Sadly, on my nose I got burns which my parents describe as 'acid burns'. i also got these on my cheek. For this I used cucumber and variuos face masks.the burns on my cheek dissapeared but because I itched/scratched my nose-burn, the scar remained. It look HORRIBLE. my dad says I put too much AcV, which I now understand I did do. But I only did so because the amount was not stated. Is there anything I can do get rid do get rid of it or do I have to do the hard thing and WAIT for it to heal? It does look VERY awful! Thanx!" Replies 09/26/2008: Kathy from Mtn City, TN replies: "EVCO -Extra Virgin Coconut Oil for your facial "burns". This works great for me. Just put some on your fingertips and spread over your red spots. You can buy at the pharmacy. Perhaps you shouldn't try vinegar again on your face since you had a reaction like that. It will work from the inside out. H202 works well on the face (hydrogen peroxide, 3% that you get from the drug store or grocery), a little on a cotton ball. To take ACV internally, 2 TBL of ACT, 1/4 tsp of Baking Soda. Let it react then I like to add Cran-Grape juice in a 6 or 8 oz glass. I take twice a day. You can drink with purified water or spring water and add some sweetener (honey) if you need. Drink lots of water too. Restricting sugar and soft drinks works SUPER on acne also. Good Luck." 10/01/2008: Marcie from Dallas, TX, USA replies: "to help with the healing you can also get a Vitamin E capsule, puncture it and squeeze out the gel and apply it to the affected areas. it is a thick gel and it does soil so you may want to use this at night and put an old shirt or towel over your pillow so it doesn't get stained. if you have any scaring you can also apply Castor Oil to reduce/remove scar tissue." recently taken to the topical application of ACV on these areas, speculatively. I have to say, in just a couple of days, the results are dramatic... I tilt the bottle onto a cotton pad a couple of times to saturate it, about the same size as a cosmetic make-up remover and wipe all over my face and head liberally, avoiding the eyes (cos it stings). I leave it on and repeat several times a day (just remember to wash the face with clean lukewarm water before you go out and pat it dry). The resulting effect is no redness, no flakey skin, just a taught, fresh-faced complexion. To compliment that, I have been taking daily sauna and steam bath treatments, interspersed with cold showers, excellent for a variety of conditions I'm sure, marvellous for the circulation, very invigorating and great for the skin, which I read here somewhere - is like the body's third kidney, and when in tip-top working condition, serves the body well to flush-out and detox the system. I didn't buy another bottle until about a week ago. Let me tell you, during the course of the month when I didn't take it, I aged! I also gained weight. Even though I was eating healthy foods and exercising regularly, my face looked gaunt and unhealthy and my circulation seemed to get worse. So last week I started drinking my acv again. The turn around was almost instantaneous. After all these years of taking it, I now think that the best time to take acv for its fountain of youth properties is on an empty stomach and about 10 minutes before exercising. I usually drink about half of a glass containing 1/4cup acv in 8 oz of water (I know, very potent and strong) before going to the gym. I drink the other half before I go to bed. I have tons of energy for my workout and wake up with my skin taut (sp?) and glowing. A few years ago when I was 36, I competed in a martial arts national championships in a college town in Oregon. I was swigging acv and water throughout the competition and burned a zillion calories from giving out every ounce of energy that I had during the the competition from stress and physical exertion. The weird part is that the combination of the intense exercise/stress and the apple cider vinegar/water made me look about 10 years younger for the next 24 hours! I went out with a bunch of guys from the competition to a bar after the competition and was barred from entering because the bouncer thought I was a student with a fake id! After having my friends attest to my age, the bouncer did finally let me in. It hasn't happened to me since then, but the experience cemented in my mind the combo power of ACV and exercise. How to Get Glowing Skin Naturally and Tips for Glowing Skin Thursday, May 28th, 2009 Dull skin is a common problem that most people living in urban environments and leading a hectic life face. The natural complexion and glow of the skin is often lost through overexposure to harsh ultraviolet radiation, either from direct sunlight or artificial lamps, prolonged stay in air-conditioned environments, and contact with air and water pollutants. At the end of the day, the physical exhaustion and mental stress caused by a busy lifestyle also result in dull looking skin. Glowing Skin Tips There are a few lifestyle and dietary measures that you must follow to keep your skin in good health. Regular exercise in fresh, open air is essential to ensure proper blood circulation in the body. This is crucial for the health of your skin too, as proper circulation of blood makes your skin look naturally glowing. Proper and undisturbed sleep is also necessary for the skin to look soft and glowing. Also, drinking plenty of water and eating fruits and vegetables that are rich in minerals, vitamins and fibers keeps the skin well hydrated and prevents it from looking dull. Besides these general measures, you should also make sure to keep your skin clean at all times. Cleansing is an essential component of your daily skin care routine. At least twice a day, use a mild cleanser to remove grime and dust from your face. Of course, use a cleanser that suits your skin type and be careful not to overdo it, as excessive use of cosmetic products can rob the skin of its natural moisture and oil that keeps it glowing. Every alternate day, exfoliate your skin in order to open up the clogged pores on its surface. Home Remedies for Glowing Skin You can make a good face scrub at home by soaking a few apricots in water overnight and crushing them to a pulp the next morning and then adding a little olive oil to this. Apply this paste all over your face and leave it on for 15 minutes. Then wash it away with water. This is an effective natural way of moisturizing your skin and removing dirt, oil and dead skin cells from the pores of the skin. For another remedy, make a fine paste by grinding the rind of an unripe papaya with two tablespoons each of honey and gram flour and apply this thick paste on your face. Wash it off once it dries. Following this natural exfoliating regime twice a week restores to the skin its lost glow.
