Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set: The teacher will begin by asking some review questions about what they have talked about over the past few weeks (i.e. weather tools, patterns, clouds, weather reports, and dangerous weather.) As a class they will briefly discuss the topics of the last few weeks. The teacher will then show students the Glogster poster she created -- students were previously shown this Glogster to help introduce the unit. Once students have viewed the Glogster poster again, she will explain to students that they will be creating their own interactive poster showcasing their take on the information they have learned. Detailed Teaching Sequence: (Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted statements are preferred) The teacher will first begin by explaining the project in detail to the students. She will inform them that they are to use pictures from various sources (books, internet etc.), text, and video to help them create an interactive Glogster poster showcasing the information they have gained throughout the duration of this unit. The teacher will then show a YouTube tutorial on how to use Glogster. Each step will be broken down for students so that is it easy to remember. Students will also be provided with a handout which reinforces the instructions. The teacher will also go through how she made hers and the steps she took to create it. The teacher will show students how to create an account on Glogster that will enable them to use this website in the future. Students will have the chance to go onto Glogster and play around with the software to help them get a feel for it. The teacher will then go over the appropriate use of the computer once more before they begin their project. Once students are completely aware of what needs to be done, they are free to get started. Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities Students will have the opportunity to begin work on their independent Glogster poster They will be required to write or draw up a rough draft of sorts to show what they would like to include on their interactive poster. Once this portion has been checked and OKed by the teacher, the student is able to start working on their Glogster by using the program on the computer. The teacher will continuously walk around monitoring students progress and providing assistance when needed. Students are able to use any of the work they have done over the course of this unit to help them add information into this final project. Closure: With about five minutes left in class the teacher will stop students and tell them to save their work. It is at this time the teacher will do a short review of weather as well as the address any questions or concerns in terms of the project. The teacher will inform students that this is what they will be working on the next couple of days and that they will also be required to present these interactive posters to their classmates.
