Preparation & Use:
For external use, pound the leaves oI the Akapulko plant, squeeze the juice and apply on
aIIected areas.
As the expectorant Ior bronchitis and dyspnoea, drink decoction (soak and boil Ior 10 to 15
minutes) oI Akapulko leaves. The same preparation may be used as a mouthwash, stringent,
and wash Ior eczema.
As laxative, cut the plant parts (roots, Ilowers, and the leaves) into a manageable size then
prepare a decoction Note: The decoction looses its potency iI not used Ior a long time. Dispose
leItovers aIter one day.

Ampalaya (Bitter Melon)

Banaba Preparation & Use:
Note: Fresh leaves, dried leaves, Ilowers, ripe Iruit, root and bark oI Banaba can all be used.

Bawang or Garlic
O with scientiIic name ium sativum, is a low herb, which only grows up to sixty
centimeters high.
O most widely used herbal medicines in the Philippines and can also be Iound commonly in
the kitchen oI Filipino households as it is used to spice up Iood preparations
O during World War when it was used to treat wounds and inIections oI soldiers.

Preparation & Use:

O The $ambong leaves can also be used to treat colds and mild hypertension.
O $ambong is one herbal medicine (oI ten) approved by the Philippine Department oI
Health (DOH) as

diarrhea and anti-spasm.
O As an astringent, preparations made oI sambong leaves may be used Ior wounds and

Tsaang Gubat

Preparation & Use:
Thoroughly wash the leaves oI tsaang gubat in running water. Chop to a desirable size and boil
1 cup oI chopped leaves in 2 cups oI water. Boil in low heat Ior 15 to 20 minutes and drain.
Take a cupIul every 4 hours Ior diarrhea, gastroenteritis and stomach pains.
Gargle Ior stronger teeth and prevent cavities.







Bayabas or Cuava {PxlJlum guujuvu
O locally known for its edible fruit.
O is a small tree that can grow up to 3 meters tall with greenish-brownish
smooth bark.
O ts leaves decoction is recognized for its effectiveness to cure several
ailments, including the treatment of uterine hemorrhage, swollenness of
the legs and other parts of the body, of chronic diarrhea, and
gastroenteritis, among others.
O The most common use of the leaves is for cleaning and disinfecting
wounds by rinsing the afflicted area with a decoction of the leaves.
O n the same way, such leaves are being used to aid in the treatment of
dysentery and the inflammation of the kidneys.
O The bark and leaves can be used as astringent.
O t can also be used as a wash for uterine and vaginal problems, and is
good for ulcers.
O natural cure for fevers, diabetes, epilepsy, worms, and spasms.

Preparation:
W Boil one cup of Bayabas leaves in three cups of water for 8 to 10 minutes. Let cool.
W Use decoction as mouthwash, gargle.
W Use as wound disinfectant - wash affected areas with the decoction of leaves 2 to 3
times a day. Fresh leaves may be applied to the wound directly for faster healing.
W For toothaches, chew the leaves in your mouth.
W For diarrhea, boil the chopped leaves for 15 minutes in water, and strain. Let cool, and
drink a cup every three to four hours.
W To stop nosebleed, densely roll Bayabas leaves, then place in the nostril cavities.
