THE PROBLEM How might I prevent the math phobia among students involving creativity in SKILLFUL PROBLEM SOLVING teaching approaches ? Problems are created because of : Teachers are too strict and always blamed students if they failed to answer the questions given. The teacher do not implement the various approaches in teaching, dominant using exercises rather than games, ICT tools and so on. Malaysian education systems is based on oriented examination.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONSImplement student centred learning. Use various creative approaches like games, outdoor activities, teaching aids and ICT tools. Malaysian education systems should be undergoes reformation. Eliminate the exam oriented. Every school must have math clinics. The teachers have to motivate the students, not blamed them.

SOL UTI ON CON SIDE RED

CONSEQUENCESPRO OR CONVALUEStudent centred-learning will create a inquiry feeling among students and they will feel confident on their selves. Math clinic will help students who has misconception or weakness in math. They will feel secure. The software, all sort of ICTs and teaching aid models can help students in self-learning and guide them to visualize the something that beyond they thinking. Pro

How can we make the soluti on bette r?

Con Pro Teachers should tell their students that math is not a scary monster, try to close to them and never blamed if they have done a wrong calculation. Instead, gives a positive motivation like you just close to the answer. However, the root is how the teacher makes the class live. Pro / con Improve teaching and learning quality. Create curiosity among students. Teachers have to monitor the learning process. Motivate students to excellent in mathematics.

Students can explore the tools by their own.Help student to be more independent. Student might use the technology in a wrong way.

SKILLFUL PROBLEM SOLVING How might I membantu pelajar memahami konsep matematik menggunakan kaedah demonstrasi sebagai salah satu pendekatan pengajaran Matematik yang kreatif?

SOLUTION CONSIDERED Solution number 3

PRO OR VALUE CON?

PRO

PRO

How can we make the solution better?

SKILLFUL PROBLEM SOLVING

THE PROBLEM How teachers caninvolve theactive participation of studentsduringthe studentcenteredlearning? POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS Teachers need to create safe learning environment for students participation. Teachers need to provide rewards for the effort and the production of creative students work. Teachers need to ensure that the number of members of the group is small so that all students can actively be involved.

SOLUTIO N CONSIDE RED CONSEQUENCES PRO OR CONS ? PRO PRO VALUE

Safe learning environment will promote effective learning among students. Students will be excited to learn because of the reward given by teacher. In small group, all students will get a chance to deliver their own opinions.

PRO CON

Students able to move freely during activities. Students teach one another within the groups and often groups teach other groups. Students motivation to learn mathematics can be increased. Teachers should be able to control students especially when activities conducted outside the classroom.

How can we make the solution better? Teacher need to be sensitive to individual differences. Different learning styles being used. Calling students in class. For a small discussion section, it may be useful to arrange chairs in a circle or a U shape.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS - Game method in teaching and learning mathematics. - Applying mathematics practical task in class which is related in real-life problem. - Teachers attitudes towards student such guiding, helpful. -Role-play about the problem situation which is very real in nature.

SOLUTION CONSIDERED CONSEQUENCE It focuses on problems which are real in nature. It is fun and develop an understanding of the principle and the concepts where students exploring all aspects of the problem It is time consuming for roleplay activities. PRO OR CON PRO PRO VALUE Can use for cognitive learning. Attract the students attention.

CON HOW CAN WE MAKE THE SOLUTION BETTER?

Fun with mathematics is attractive learning but teachers should be good in managing students behavior in class. Teachers should be good in managing time in activities in class. Classroom makeover: designing the layout classroom more dynamic to create good situation.
