ATTENTION
EMC NORMS
WHEN CARRYING OUT THE GIVEN OPERATIONS OBSERVE THE NORMS STATED in the Handbook Guide section of Technical Handbook. 1642EM product all meet with ETSI EN 300386 V1.3.3 Class B qualification (Other than Telecommunication Center) except the PartNumber list following: 3AL97083BDAA (STM1 ELECTRICAL UNIT board) can meet with and Class A qualification (Telecommunication Center) only.
SAFETY RULES
1642EM product is CLASS I LASER PRODUCT compliant with IEC 60825. Carefully observe the front-panel warning labels prior to working on optical connections while the equipment is in-service. 220V~240V parts of the power supply AC 220B are free accessible on the solder side, as well on the component side (top of charging capacitor). For protection against electric shock of the service personell, the service personell is directed to remove the 220V~240V power supply cord before removing the power supply AC 220B, or removing the board next left from the AC 220B". For details about the removing of the power supply AC220B see 3.1.4
ED
1.1 General
The following procedures have been issued and must be observed when unpacking the equipment. The reciprocal operation must be done for repacking. In such case it is recommended to use the original packing material. The following sturdy outer packing material is utilized in order to protect the equipment against mechanical and climatic stresses to which they are subjected: wooden crates ply-wood crates cardboard boxes for transport by ship, air, on road for periods longer than 60 days for transport by ship, air, on road for periods of 30 to 60 days for transport by air or on road for periods of less than 30 days
The 1642EMUX equipment meet with the following CE specification: ETSI EN 300386 ETSI EN 300019 IEC 60950/60825 for for for EMC/EMI Class B** Environment Safety

trade mark/address of the manufacturing company; labels (or templated marks) indicating information on the contract and destination site of the product; an envelope holding among others the packing list
Upon receipt check: that the final destination of the crates is that indicated on the label; that no damage was made to the cases
Report any shipping damages to the Companys representative or the Shipping Agent. 1.2.2 Unpacking When having to unpack proceed as follows: N.B. symbol make sure that the packing has been properly positioned, refer to the open the case; remove the shockproof material; remove the goods from the case; remove prepacking, the polyethylene bag and any other protection; remove the plastic bags cellotaped to the rack and containing accessories; remove the dehydrating bags; ascertain that the goods are not damaged and that they correspond to those indicated on the packing list enclosed in the envelope. Conversely, contact the agencys representative. When unpacking it is advisable to handle the packing material with care; it might be reused for packing again if it must be reshipped.
ED
1.3 Warehousing
If having to store the packed material, the following requirements must be met: the cardboard boxes must be placed indoors in airy rooms; the wooden or plywood cases can be placed outdoors, provided they are protected against rain and direct sunlight.

(See Figure 4 on page 10 and Figure 5 on page 11) The items to be used for this installation are included in the Adapter for 21 Rack: 3AL 97102 AAAA (Annex 1. - Parts making up the Installation set on page 46). This installation allows to place the 1642 Edge Multiplexer on a 21 rack (300mm deep horizontal). The 1642 Edge Multiplexer is housed in this rack with front access of electrical and optical cabling, which is illustrated in Figure 7. Fix the two 21 adapters (2) to the 1642 Edge Multiplexer (1) by four stainless screws (3). Fix the equipment to the 21 rack through four screws, plastic washers (4) and four nuts (5).

SAFETY RULES
The whole installation must be executed without powering the equipment. Protection ground connection must be the first operation Power Supply connection must be the last to be executed. FIXING THE UNITS (AND MODULES) INTO THE SUBRACK (caution to avoid equipment damage) The screw tightening torque for fixing the units (and modules, if any and if fixed by screws) into the subrack must be:
ATTENTION: The equipment is supplied with several connectors. The installer must respect the ESD precautions presented in the Technical Handbook. The final equipment configuration can result with empty slots. In this case it is recommended to cover the empty slots with the DUMMY PLATE 3AL 97082 AAAA. This is necessary for correct EMI-EMC performances.

SAFETY RULES
In general: Due to possible very high currents in case of short-circuit at the power input, it is essential that the power distribution line shall be provided with a short circuit backup protection with adequate breaking capacity. Make sure that the screws on the power modules (DC48B, FB (-48V) and AC220B) are not loose when you insert or remove the cable from the power modules.
3.1.4 Take away the 220V~240V AC power from AC220B (See Figure 20) Turn off the switch. Put away the power supply cable 3AL97087AAAA (ref 1, Annex2 installation cable) from the supply socket. Screw off two screws with a crossed screwdriver Plug in an extractor (with AC board 3AL97077ABAA and 3AL97077ACAA) into the hole beside the socket, rotate 90 degree, and then pull out the AC220B.

(1) 8 x 2MBit/s service signal interfaces: The upper row labeled TX contains the output of every 2Mbit/s channel. Each output channel can be configured through the network management to provide a retimed 2Mbit/s service signal. The lower row labeled RX contains the input of every 2Mbit/s channel that can be connected with the 2Mbit/s service signals of the exchange or access equipments. (2) 2MBit/s extended signal interface: The connector labeled with TX is the output side, the one labeled with RX is the input side. The interface provides a channel for transmitting QECC (network management) through 2Mbit/s signals. There are two connection modes for this channel: I) connecting to the 2Mbit/s extended signal interface of another 1642 Edge Multiplexers E1RCB8 board through coaxial cable. II) connecting directly to 2Mbit/s service port through coaxial cable, i.e. to map the 2Mbit/s extended signal into the service signal and then connect through optical fiber with another transmission equipment. The signal should be terminated on another remote 1642 Edge Multiplexer equipment configured with the E1RCB8 board, as shown in Figure 255 on page 309. (3) 2MBit/s clock input: The input of the first 2Mbit/s port can be used to receive a 2MBit/s timing signal with data. The input of the extended signal port can be used to receive a 2MHz timing signal without data.
