Pre-Conference Workshops
Monday 5 December 2011
0930 - 1230 Including morning refreshments & networking lunch
Rationale: Radio frequency identification is proving to be a game changer in the explosive tracking industry. They provide explosives and other operators with a huge business advantage by improving both security and accountability of explosives. This in turn also improves post blast case analysis. This workshop will discuss Methodologies and associated advantages of tagging and tracking explosives Precision tracking of explosives and better post blast analysis Strategies to improve safety by better tracking Integrating tracking systems with existing manufacturing systems
John Moore Senior Drill & Blast Engineer OZ MINERALS, AUSTRALIA
Rationale: With efficient and effective drill and blast procedures vital to ensure continuous productivity, cut costs and increase safety, developing a streamlined drill and blast management plan is a key factor. The primary focus of discussions will be around understanding and choosing the best strategies to come up with a comprehensive blast management plan Understanding Blasting restrictions and ground vibration criteria Developing the right explosive selection criteria Developing and implementing an efficient drill and blast management program
Tony Silveira Specialist Mining Engineer Resources Development/ Long Term Planning RIO TINTO, AUSTRALIA
John started off as a Drill and Blast co-ordinator with Ryan Mining in 1993 and moved on to Orica explosives where he was involved in developing and implementing safety systems for four years. John also co-ordinated the drill and blast team with OK Tedi Mining in Papua New Guinea where he managed drill and blast budgets, and formulating technical blasting plans across levels of management. He was also involved in blast operations at Newcrest mining and Rio Tinto. John is currently the senior drill and blast engineer at Oz Minerals and has overseen implementing RFID explosives tracking systems successfully.
Tony has been associated with the mining industry for more than a decade now. He started off as a Drill and Blast engineer at WMC. He moved on to KCGM and was instrumental in designing mass blasts. He then oversaw the Drill and Blast operations at the Peak Gold mine for two years after which, Tony was involved in the successful implementation of single shot drawbell rings at the Northparkes mine site for close to ve years. Tony is presently working as a Mining Specialist Engineer at the Rio Tinto iron ore overseeing resource development and long term planning.
