School Environment Evaluation

School Pseudonym: North California High School District Demographics: The North California High School District is in a large school district counting over 10,000 high school students and over 1000 administrators, teachers and other staff members. There are five comprehensive, two alternative and one independent school in this district. Each of the comprehensive high schools have specialized programs that help students choose their future educational path. Most of the high schools have technology involved in their curriculum. The North California High School District includes portions of two counties and three communities. Most of the residents of these communities are middle-income home owners. With high property taxes, the budget is stable and available for most of the districts needs. Technology use in this district is extensive and available to all staff and students, including but not limited to: Internet connection (wired and wireless), shared data access, off campus data access (cloud computing), as well as video and voice technology integration. Integrated - Formally of informally approved based on the size of the project and connected to the other planning efforts. III. BUDGET a. Behavioral 1. Intelligent - Large budgets set and approved for upgrades. b. Resource/Infrastructure 1. Integrated - Budgets approved for line items; no additional budgets for staffing needs. IV. Intelligent - All locations within district have Internet access (165 MB piped out). IV. COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS a. Behavioral 1. Intelligent - Email is integral to all staff members. b. Resource/Infrastructure 1. Islands - District email is available only to staff as governed by cipa.

INNOVATION

I. NEW TECHNOLOGIES a. Behavioral 1. Islands - Expected by many staff members. b. Resource/Infrastructure 1. Integrated - Numerous new technologies available and moderately implemented. II. COMPREHENSIVE TECHNOLOGIES a. Behavioral 1. Intelligent - Comprehensive technologies are readily available. b. Resource/Infrastructure 1. Integrated - Available but have not reached full potential. Conclusion: The North California High School District is an integrated school district well on its to being intelligent. The weaker areas (islands) in curricular assessment, stakeholder involvement support, training support, email communication and staff involving themselves in new technologies are a step away from becoming integrated. This is a school that will be a leader for others in their educational technology.
