Topology

Topology is a local area network. A network configuration is also a network topology. The topologies are either physical or logical. It is the shape of the network. They are the arrangement of computers and other devices. The main goals of network topologies are -to provide maximum reliability, -to provide the least cost path, -to provide best possible response time and throughput.

There are four major network topologies. They are-Bus topology, -Star topology, -Ring topology, -Mesh topology.

Bus topology
The bus topology is popular in local area networks. In the Bus topology computers are connected together with a single cable or switch. All the end of the cable are terminated which is plugged into a device like computer, terminator etc. In this topology only one computer can send the data at a time, so networks are affected. If there is a line break in any computer, the entire network will be affected. It is hard to find the problem is in which computer. This topology is appropriate only in the small networks.

Advantages
-It is easy to use. -It is easy to setup. -It is cheaper than other topologies. -It required less cable then other topologies.

Disadvantages
-It is difficult to find the problem is in which computer. -There is a limitation in a cable length and station. -If the problem is found in one computer ,the whole network will be disable and the computers doesn`t works.

-Information is flown to all the computers ,so there is no security and privacy. -If many computers are attached the network goes slow. -Network traffic is high and slow.

Star topology
Star topology is the another widely used data communication system. This topology is easy to use and control so it was widely used in 1960s to1970s. It is control by only one switch called hub. Which act as a router, which transmit message. It redces the network failer by connecting all the system to the central node. If the problem occur in a computer ,it wont be affected to the another computer. The other computers can be easily run.if the problem occur in the hub then the whole system will be damage .

Advantage
-It is easy to set up and expand. -It gives good performance. -It is easy to find out the problem. -Network wont be affected if any computers get affected. -Network is fast so it is easy and quick to send the data.

Disadvantage
-It is too expensive to use. -If the problem occur in the host the whole system will be affected.

Ring topology
It is the popular network topology. It is arranged in a ring shaped so it is named as Ring topology. In this topology the computers are arranged in a single cable and in around shape.So when the datas and information are transferred it travels in one direction straight and forward. The information is flown to all the computer. If there is any break down in ring whole network will be affected. If there is any addition to the network ,the whole computers are shut down . And need to start again from the beginning.

Advantage
-It is easy to use . - Datas are transformed in one direction. -Performance is same.

Disadvantage
-It is too time consuming. -There is no privacy and security. -Network is slow . -Data is transferred to all the computers so it makes slow. -If there is problem in one computer information is not transferred to the another computers.

Mesh topology
It is the another frequently used and popular network topology. In this topology cables are connected in each and every computers. This is the most expensive among the topologies. The network is fast, privecya and secures topology. If there is problem in one computer it wont affect to the another computer. The network wont be disturbed.

Advantage

-It is too fast. -It is too secure and privacy. -Network is fast.

Disadvantage
-It is too expensive. -It looks too clumsy. -Too much wires are used. -Wires are too expensive.

On my point of view star topology is good for two store building. Because star topology is run by a single hub. A hub controls all the computers. It is easy to setup and run the computers. This topology is fast and reliable. If there are any problems in the computer, it can be easily find and repair.
