Generic learning objectives for master theses

Projects and general subjects By agreement with the tutor Schedule: The master thesis is the final project in the master program. The topic of the Scope and form: master thesis is agreed between the student and their tutor. Regular meetings are a prerequisite for the thesis and the framework and scope of meetings should be agreed at the start of the thesis. The master thesis must be evaluated individually. Two students can report and submit a thesis on a common subject, so that generally the descriptive section, such as the introduction are common, but it is otherwise clear who contributed what parts. Duration of The thesis is normally at a level equivalent to 30 points and must be course: undertaken as a full-time study for 5 months, plus any agreed holiday (max. 4 weeks). In special cases, the thesis can be more than 30 points. In such cases, the project period is extended based on 3 weeks for each increase of 5 points. The start time and deadline for submission is determined on registration. By agreement. Time of

exam: Written submission and subsequent oral defense. Type of assess ment: All aid. Aid: Evaluation: 7 step scale, external examiner. General course objectives:
The objective of the master thesis is that the student can competently formulate, analyze and process the issue within a defined academic topic that reflects the emphasis of the program. The master thesis must demonstrate the student's ability to solve an engineering relevant task, in which the acquired knowledge and the skills attained are applied in an independent manner in a larger work. The students shall assess the possibilities and results at an appropriate level and they must account for the results obtained in a logical and coherent manner in a report.

Learning objectives:
A student who has written a master thesis has obtained the following knowledge, skills and competences: understands the interaction between the different components of a technological issue the ability to assess and define a complex open issue, put it into a broader context and on this basis, propose various options can apply elements of current research at an international level to develop new ideas and solve problems on the basis of a clear academic profile can work, communicate and convey scientific results, both written and orally in Danish and/or English apply and evaluate technological solutions based on principles of ethics and sustainability, as well as seeing technological solutions in a business and societal perspective can select, analyze and be critical of relevant information and on this basis identify areas in need of new knowledge. Besides the above generic learning objectives, the individual departments will have some guidelines for learning objectives in connection with master theses, which should be read before proceeding with the project statement. The specific learning objectives for the project must be enclosed with the outline of the project, which has to be prepared within the first 4 weeks of the project process. It must show how the above learning objectives, together with the Department and project-specific learning objectives, are expected to be achieved, so that the learning objectives can be used in the assessment of the project.

Content:
The content of the project is agreed between the student and tutor. The project may include a combination of experimental work, field work, theoretical studies, modeling and analysis. All projects must contain elements of literature surveys and criticism. During the project's first month, the student must prepare an outline for the project.

Remarks:
The master thesis is a compulsory part of the master program. The student can only start their master thesis when they have completed courses equivalent to 55 points on the master program. It is recommended to take general competence courses and the technological specialization courses.

Responsible:
The student must have a mentor for their master thesis.

The mentor must be a Head of Department approved, permanent academic member of staff (not PhD students), whose main employment is at DTU. Before the project starts, a contract and the thesis must be approved by the Head of Studies in order to ensure that student's academic thesis falls within the master's field of study.

Registration:
The student must agree on the master thesis with their mentor and register with the department, which electronically registers the agreement with the Office for Study Programmes and Student Affairs.
