Who will play Fairy Godmother for Neston High students?

Sixth form students at Neston high School are hoping a local business may play Fairy Godmother for their forthcoming performing arts exam. the Y13 students are producing the pantomime Cinderella and as well as performing all the roles they are exploring arts production issues such as securing sponsorship. they are hoping that a kind business will be able to offer sponsorship in kind and donate a dress for Cinderella to go to the ball! ideally we would like a colourful ballgown explains Laura MacNamee who is playing Cinderella. in return the business will be featured in our programme and in school newsletters and publicity which will reach over 2000 people. the pantomime is on at 7pm on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th December at the school. it is great as it offers the students not only amazing performing opportunities but also experience of the realities of producing theatre explains the KS5 performing arts coordinator Miss higgins. they are working really hard, we have all been in over half term rehearsing and it would be great if a local business could help out with his essential costume. Workshop members at Neston Cricket Club

Developing a brand for Neston

RepReSeNtAtiveS from local businesses, schools, and community groups have met at Neston Cricket Club to help develop a brand for Neston. the event, co-funded by Cheshire West and Chester Council and Neston town Council, was deemed a great success and work will now continue to develop the brand. Said Neston Cllr Andy Williams, representing Cheshire West and Chester Council: the Brand and Marketing exercise demonstrates the Councils commitment to retaining and improving the vitality of our distinct Market towns and the event was an excellent example of organisations working together to improve the retail offer in Neston. Added Neston town Cllr David Clark: i would like to extend a thank you to the business and community members who participated in the workshop. their input to this process is essential as we develop the opportunities for Neston. Many other Market towns have successfully developed brands for their town Centres and seen an increase in the number of visitors to their towns as a result. Local brand and communications consultancy hilary Berg Consulting has been commissioned to assist the process and will produce a report on the event within the next few weeks. the community spirit within Neston is fantastic and we have an enthusiastic response, from lots of people with good ideas. it will be great to hear as many views on the report as possible said hilary, whose pR Company has worked on projects in europe, New York and South Africa. the Report will be available to download from the popular town website AboutMyArea.co.uk/Ch64, where a space will be made available for all town Centre users to comment on the report. paul Davies from Neston and District Chamber of trade said We look forward to hilarys report after such a wellattended and interesting workshop.

Dog fouling roadshow reaches Parkgate

CheShiRe West and Chester Council continued its campaign against dog fouling with a roadshow in parkgate. On tuesday, November 8, the Councils Anti-Dog Fouling Roadshow was based in the car park at the end of the parade. Council officers were on hand to give advice and issue free dog waste bags. they also raised awareness about the public health risks associated with dog faeces, which is a breeding ground for harmful bacteria. Also the risk from parasites such as toxocara canis, which can cause blindness, especially in young children. the campaign asks responsible dog owners to Bag it and Bin it in any general litter bin. Bible event is a big draw

iN October, Neston & District Churches together held a Big Bible event at Neston parish Church. Launched with a service at parkgate & Neston URC, attended by the Mayor, the event attracted many visitors. the general public and local schools had been invited to come and view the week long exhibition and find out more for themselves about the worlds bestseller, the Bible. it began with a display about this years 400th Anniversary of the King James Bible, with a celebratory banner made especially for the event. A welcome leaflet then guided the visitor on a walk through the history of the Bible - each of the churches having taken a section to illustrate. From the story of Noahs Ark and Jonah and the Whale, through to the teachings of Jesus, and the start of the early church. there was plenty of hands on stuff for the children with quizzes to test their knowledge and lots of interactive craft activities. One school child commented in the visitor book, they didnt know church could be so much fun! the ellesmere port puppeteers , providing entertainment for the younger ones , telling familiar Bible stories through music and song, and Wirral Youth for Christ, on hand to speak with some of the older high School students. the local branch of Gideons international shared in the event too, with a display on their wide ranging work, distributing free bibles to prisons, hospitals and the armed forces. And a fascinating personal collection, on loan, of old Bible and New testament facsimiles added to the variety of the whole event. All the hard work and creative talents involved had been much appreciated.

NESTON SLIMMERS CELEBRATE MOVING INTO THEIR NEW HOME

NeStON Slimming World Group had their first group in their new home at the Royal British Legion on Chester Road recently. they celebrated their move in style by having a party with delicious Slimming World food and drinks for the members to enjoy. Our launch day at our new venue was a resounding success. said Jayne, Consultant Jayne and the 9.30am of the Neston group. everyone social team enjoyed themselves at our very comfortable new home and 18 new members joined us to lose weight for Christmas and beyond. A prestigious award was presented to three of our target members: helen Denton, Marilyn tait and Suzy Lesti all received the much coveted Slimming World Diamond Award, for remaining at their chosen target weight for over a year, having lost 8 stones between them, which is a great achievement. explained Jayne. i would like to thank Neston Local for their help with printing my advert and editorial, as they helped me to spread the word about Slimming World and the fact that we were moving, and as a result, a total of 18 new members joined our group on our launch day. Jayne added. We are now settled in at the British Legion and everyone is concentrating on losing as much weight as possible for our Christmas parties and celebrations. Bookstore serves as a film set!

NeStONS COMMUNitY film group Shoreline were present at the book signing event at Linghams bookstore, held on the middle Saturday of the recent heswall Festival, in order to provide footage for their latest feature movie. The film, The Haunting of Memory, weaves a ghost story aroudn the facts of a visit to Liverpool in 1913 by a young Adolf hitler. the book, which featured at the signing the hitlers of Liverpool, is by local author Michael Unger, a friend of Neston filmmaker James Chalmers, who wrote the film script after reading this fascinating book. Actress Melanie Smith, who plays the leading role, was filmed coming into the bookshop, buying a copy of the book, then going to the author to have the book signed. As she is approaching the table where Michael is sitting, another customer is just leaving, having had her copy signed too. this lady will be making a brief appearance in the film as an extra, adding authenticity to the book signing scene. The film will be premiered in Neston in January and if this lady contacts the producer James on 336 4253, she will be invited to the screening and receive a copy of the DvD.
