VCS and CCB Validation

From 16 - 23 August 2011, representatives of the German company TV SD arrived in Cambodia to conduct the dual validation of the OM CF REDD+ project for both VCS and CCB standards. The validation team spent two days at the Pact office reviewing the project documents and another 3 days in OM. TV SD will release their official validation findings shortly, which Pact, FAand TGC will respond to. The final validation is expected by December 2011.

CF Network Quarterly Meeting


On 28 June, the CF Network held its quarterly meeting at Samraong Pagoda. The meeting was attended by 13 CF leaders and staff from FA, CDA, and Pact. During this meeting, the CFs discussed issues and constraints they are facing as well as possible solutions.

Community Perspectives on REDD+ Documented in Short Film


Pact has produced a short film entitled Community Perspectives on REDD+ in Oddar Meanchey. The film is based on a series of recent interviews with CF leaders in Oddar Meanchey and provides insight into the current hopes and concerns of CF members in the province. The footage was presented at the RECOFTC Forum for People and Forests in Bangkok (8 - 9 August).

Participatory Monitoring Workshop


On 14 - 15 July, Pact facilitated a participatory monitoring workshop for key stakeholders at Samraong Pagoda. The workshop was held to gain community input into the design and implementation of the projects monitoring and evaluation framework and to develop capacity at the provincial level for monitoring the project.

Social Assessment
Pact completed a Report on the 2010 Household SurveyThe survey analyzes data from surveys of 296 households conducted as part of the project's baseline social assessment.

Visiting Researchers in OM
The Oddar Meanchey Community Forestry REDD+ project continues to generate interest from academics. During mid-2011 Pact hosted a Phd candidate from the University of Copenhagen, Maya Sepheri. Using Oddar Meanchey as a case study, Mayas research investigates the social dimensions and impacts of deforestation with relation to REDD+ projects. Pact welcomes reseachers to collaborate in analysing and documenting various aspects of the project.

OM in the Media
As one of the first community forestry REDD+ projects in the world, Oddar Meanchey continues to attract global attention. On 20 June, the OM CF REDD+ project was profiled in Time Magazine. Shortly thereafter, the OM CF REDD+ project was profiled by Kyodo News. Two articles on the project have been published in Japanese newspapers.

UNDP Report Highlights Early Learning's from REDD in Oddar Meanchey


On 30 August the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) released the 2011 Cambodian Human Development Report with the Ministry of Environment. Focusing on climate change, theHman Development Report documented early lessons from the OM CF REDD+ project in its forestry section.
