THE MIND So, what is the thing we call the MIND? You cannot see it, a doctor cannot tell you where it is, and yet we seem to need it. And, the other day Bob told that I was out of my mindand he had recently lost hisand later that day my husband changed his! The mind is known by different names, depending on where it resides: In a computer, we refer to the mind as the Operating System, or in a library, we may call it the Dewey Decimal System. The mind is not an entity; It is a system that gives orders to our computer-like brain. Without a systematic way of taking in and processing information, our lives would be out of control; nothing would make sense at all. How does this mind work? We have two areas of information storage and thought processing. We are totally aware of the first area. We call it the Conscious Mind. Information and processing in the second area is done below awareness and therefore we have no idea what is happening in this part, known as the Subconscious Mind. Both parts of the mind system have very important duties. THE CONSCIOUS MIND There are 4 primary duties of the conscious mind, they are: 1. Analytical Thinking 2. Rational Thinking 3. Will Power 4.Temporary Memory

I like to think of analytical and rational thinking as pre- and post-action thinking. We use analytical thinking to solve some problem and then take whatever action is necessary. Because we always need a reason for the things we do, when no analytical thinking was used before acting, rational thinking gives a reason for doing whatever we have just done. Rational thinking gives us a reason that does not have any factual basis and therefore it is usually erroneous information, and it is a reason and that is all we need. Temporary memory is where we hold only the information that we are using now. When I ask you to think of a tree, a tree moves into the temporary memory and will stay there until it is no longer needed and then it just drops out of memory. The subconscious mind is far more complex than its counterpart. Beside the following 4 duties the subconscious mind monitors and controls all of our bodily functions. This part takes in information in a different manner than the conscious mind does. Because the subconscious mind does not have the power to analyze (that is done in the conscious mind) it takes in all information literally. When a teenager said something that is bad, the conscious mind knows by the tone of his voice that he means that it is a good thing. The subconscious mind hears the same words and thinks that the thing is not good, it is bad. Both minds see the same things but from a different perspective.

THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND The 4 duties of the subconscious mind are: 1. Permanent Memory 2. Habits 3. Emotions 4. Self Preservation

Memory of everything that we have ever experienced, real or imagined is stored in the permanent memory area of the subconscious mind. Copies of these experiences can be brought to the temporary memory area whenever needed. Habits are also in the area that is below awareness. That is why it is so difficult to alter habits with conscious effort. Our emotions are controlled from within the subconscious mind. Try as hard as you want, you cannot alter an emotion with conscious effort. Some people find that they are able to hide an emotional reaction but they still feel it. Fortunately, we have a part of the subconscious mind that monitors all our activities and will not allow us to do anything that this part of us feels could be harmful to us physically or mentally. Understand that if our internal protector does not know that something is harmful, it will not stop us from doing it. At a conscious level, we may know that smoking is not healthy and when the protector in the subconscious mind does not know it is unhealthy then we are able to smoke. The next time you hear someone say that they have lost their mind, you will go out of your way to help them understand what a marvelous thing they have misplaced. FEELINGS A feeling is a thought that can be sensed either in the mind or through the 5 senses. EMOTIONS An emotion is a very strong feeling. Positive Emotions: Enthusiasm, Love, Sex, Joy, Creativity, Faith, Desire Positive emotions promote positive thinking. Positive energy attracts people with positive energy. Negative Emotions: Fear, Anger, Guilt (Devils Triangle); Doubt, Indecision, Anxiety, Jealousy, Hatred, Revenge, Greed, Superstition, Resentment, Judgement, Criticism, Perfectionism, Suspicion. Negative emotions promote negative thinking and negative energy. Negative energy repels people.

THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND Whatever the Subconscious Mind initially conceives and believes, it will ultimately achieve. When you feed positive data into the Subconscious Mind, your result is sure to be positive. When you feed negative data into the Subconscious Mind, your result will definitely be negative. The Subconscious Mind acts illogically. It cannot differentiate between the positive data and the negative data. It literally takes in everything. So, it is always better to remember to be more careful, with what information we feed our Subconscious Minds.

HYPNOSIS Hypnosis is the bypassing of the Critical Factor of the Conscious Mind and the acceptance of suggestion for change takes place in the Subconscious Mind. Early in the morning, just when you wake up from your sleep for about 5 to 7 minutes or 7 to 10 minutes, depending on individual to individual. Your whole body becomes loose, limp and relaxed. Your mind is alert and aware. You can see everything, you can hear everything and you can feel everything. You just dont want to move, because this relaxed feeling, makes you feel so good. If you try reading a newspaper at this time, your vision is blurred. This is called natural hypnosis and this is the first natural trance for the day. Your Subconscious Mind is activated (working) at this point of time where you have your long-term memory. Example: Remembering the name of a person who you have forgotten.
