Downloading and Configuring Thunderbird


1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Download Thunderbird from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/thunderbird/ Open Thunderbird Find the File Tab and scroll over New Select Mail Accounts Enter your U-mail account information Your name: [Your Name] Email Address: [UCSBnetID]@umail.ucsb.edu Password: [Your Password]

Press Continue The configuration the first time will be unsuccessful

Re-edit the configuration using the following information: Username: [UCSBnetID] Incoming: incoming.umail.ucsb.edu IMAP 993 SSL/TLS Outgoing: outgoing.umail.ucsb.edu 465 SSL/TLS Click Re-test with the new configurations

10. When the new settings are found, click Create Account

Configuring Thunderbird Account Settings Once Dowloaded

Find the Tools tab and select Account Settings Select Server Settings (left side of the window) Re-configure the settings using the following information: Server Name: incoming.umail.ucsb.edu Port: 993 User Name: [UCSBnetID] Connection security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: Normal password

Click on Advanced to configure advanced settings Re-configure the settings using the following information: IMAP server directory: [blank] Show only subscribed folders [not checked] Server supports folders that contain sub-folders and messages [checked] Use IDELE command if the server supports it [checked] Maximum number of server connections to cache 5 Personal namespace: [blank] Public (shared): [blank] Other Users: [blank] Allow server to override these namespaces: [checked]

Click Ok Find the Tools tab and select Account Settings once again Select Outgoing Server (SMTP) (bottom left side of the window) Re-configure the settings with the following information: Server Name: outgoing.umail.ucsb.edu Port: 465 Connection security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: Normal password User Name: [UCSBnetID]

10. Congratulations! Your U-mail Account has now been synced with Thunderbird.
