A C or better in Math 1305 and Math 1306 or Math 2401. Bowerman, OConnell, and Murphree, Business Statistics in Practice, 6th edition, McGraw-Hill Irwin, 2011. REQUIRED: Course packet available for purchase in the Copy Center.

DESCRIPTION

Descriptive statistics and graphs, probability concepts, random variables, probability distributions, expected values, point and interval estimation, hypothesis testing and linear regression. Business applications are stressed and computer statistical packages are used. This is the first of two courses intended to introduce basic statistical concepts and methods. It is intended for students majoring in business or statistics. Applications are stressed and EXCEL and/or SPSS is used for data analysis. There will be three tests (T1, T2, and T3) and a comprehensive multiple choice final (F) in this course. There will be no make-up tests. If you miss a test, the grade is zero unless you notify me immediately and give documented evidence within 2 weeks. With documentation, the final may be substituted. LAST DAY TO DROP = October 27th. Four computer assignments (HW1, HW2, ...) will be given throughout the semester due at the beginning of class. The scores will be averaged to form the homework grade (H). Late assignments will not be accepted!! Problems must be labeled clearly, work must be neat, pages stapled together, and work on the back of any page will not be graded. NO EXCEPTIONS!! Problems from the textbook will also be assigned, but will not be turned in for a grade. It is to your benefit to solve these problems and ask questions in class. You are encouraged to visit the CENTER FOR MATH & STATISTICS (located in N925) to get help from faculty and peer tutors. Get to know your classmates and form study groups to work together on homework. Working through exercises and discussing the material with others can greatly enhance your learning and your overall experience in the course. The final grade will be determined as follows: T = T1 + T2 + T3 + F - min(T1, T2, T3, F) H + T + F where A1 = 5 A2 = 6 and AVERAGE = max(A1, A2)
