My name is Juan Felipe Ochoa Bermudez, I am 16 years old. I was born in the Clinica de la Mujer Bogota, Colombia. On May 6th of 1995. My parents are Jorge Ernesto Ochoa a doctor who works in the EAN university and Gloria del Pilar Bermudez a occupational therapist who works in my family company Transportes Bermudez . Also I have 1 brother that is called Jorge Mario who is an industrial designer and 2 sister that are Maria del Pilar who is a lawyer and Maria Camila that is in 7th grade at Santa Francisca Romana School.

I studied in Talento kinder garden and then in 2001 I enter to Rochester School which I am still studying at, I am in 9th grade. I want to study medicine and then specialize in Neurology in the United States. I am a funny person and I like to laugh and enjoy very minute of existence but also I am responsible. I have very good friends that support me when ever I need such as my family. In conclusion I am happy with who I am and with all the people that surrounds me trying to make me a better person. 3

How ordinary materials can replace organs of the respiratory system?

This bimester in Biology class we did a project about how ordinary materials can replace organs from the respiratory system. The most important aspect we need to take into account is the function of each part of the respiratory system. Based on that now we can look for a material that could make the same function. For example to replace the Trachea we need a flexible but resistance material with kind of rings surround it, so we use a tube that has a kind of rings that surround it, flexible and resistance.

We make this model Juliana Pea, Mateo Tamayo, Juan Pablo Tangarife and Me. We use ordinary material such as tube , sponges, balloons and straws.

For lung that it is make of smooth muscle and need to extend to receive more oxygen , so we use a balloon because you can extended it and it is not make form a hard material. And for the final example the alveoli that is where the gas exchange occur we need a material that let oxygen make diffusion thought it, so we choose an sponge because it have big holes to make oxygen diffusion.

The History of the Car: By Juan Felipe Ochoa

The first car or the first model of a car was invented by Nicholas-Joseph in the year 1769. This car had not a big impact in history because it ran with a steam engine and had a top speed of 5 km/h so people could walk faster than the car. Then Carl Benz improve this idea by creating the first gasoline-powered car, this new prototype had only 3 wheels and a crowbar for direction, but it was very expensive. This car was created in the year 1885 in Germany.

Andres F. Leon , Mateo Tamayo and me make a magazine in History Class telling the complete history about the Car.

Then Henry Ford in the year 1908 started the mass production of cars, which helped the industry of automobiles in 20th century. After that many brands of car has enriched the industry such as Renault, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Ford ,Chevrolet, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mazda, Alfa Romeo, Porsche etc.

Pursuit of Happiness By Juan Felipe Ochoa B

Do you know what happiness really is? How would you find out? For me happiness is like a taste of heaven. Pursuit of happiness is the story about how Chris Gardner obtain his happiness. Chris Gardner is an African- American men who fights for obtain happiness , overcoming many obstacles. He pass thought hell with his 5 years old son called Christopher. At first Chris invest all his life savings in a portable bone density scanner, but they were twice the money for a normal scanner so for hospitals were Unnecessary Luxuries. Then he decided to enter into an internship of becoming a stockbroker but it last 6 month without salary. Because of that his wife Linda left him and went to New York.

My classmates and me watch the movie Pursuit of Happyness in English Class inspirited of the book Pursuit of Happyness by Chris Gardner.

Now Chris need to maintain his family with only what he receive from the scanners, so he haven't enough money to paid the taxes, the rent and the food. He suffered allot thought this 6 months, he needs to sleep in a public bathroom once, and did not have a home for Christopher. But after overcoming this sad events, he got the job at Dean Witter Reynolds, and he finally obtain happiness. Five years later, he created his own company, and today, he is one of the richest people in the world and also one of the most admired in society. So in conclusion for reach or obtain happiness you need to be persistence and always fight for what you want. 8

Trip from Madrid to Manchester By Juan Felipe Ochoa B

In math class we saw how to get the distance of a line in a circle , with the angle of the line and the radio of the circle. The formula is S(distance)=Angle x Radio(of the Circle) . Using our knowledge in circles we need to calculate how much time it is need to go from Madrid, Spain to Manchester, England . First we need to know the angle between Madrid and Manchester that is 13 degrees. Second we need to convert 13 degrees into radians that is 13TT(Pi)/180. Then we need to apply the formula of S=AxR so we multiply 13TT/180 and 3690 miles (that is the radio of the earth). The result of the formula is 837.2 miles that is our distance between Madrid and Manchester.

Now if we suppose we are traveling in an Airbus 320(Cruise velocity: 900km/h) we can get the time using the equation of velocity that is V=D(Distance)/t(Time). We solve the equation to find Time, so our new equation will be like this T=V/D. So we change 837.2 miles into km that is 1398.2 km and divide by 900km/h. So our result will be 1.55 h from Madrid to Manchester in an Airbus 320.

For geography class, my classmates and me need to create a company of whatever we what. For this company we have to take into account the RSE (Responsabilidad Social Empresarial in Spanish). The RSE are ethics standards which consist in 5 major requirements that are 1. Having control over diverse workforce (No discrimination), 2.Ensuring consumer safety (products of excellent quality), 3. Have environmental practices, 4. Have respect for human rights and 5. Do not use illicit money .Oscar Ramirez, Juan Pablo Tangarife and me wanted to create a company that give people a excellent product with many benefits, so we have chosen to created a company about canned food called JTO(Juanfe -Tanga-Oscar).

Oscar Ramirez, Juan Pablo Tangarife and me wanted to create a company that give people a excellent product with many benefits, so we have chosen to created a company about canned food called JTO(Juanfe Tanga-Oscar). In JTO we choose the canned food for 3 major reasons: 1. Is a very high in proteins, nutrients and vitamins, 2. This kind of food has a long period to be eating so it gave the chance to keep it for a long time and ate it when ever you wanted without the risk of getting any infection or disease, and finally the 3rd reason why JTO have chose the canned food is for their exquisite and elegant taste. In our company we apply the RSE by providing employment to Colombian fisherman and , giving a stable salary , lending money and most important respecting their human rights.

Circulatory system, opening a heart: By Juan Felipe Ochoa B

In Biology class we learned about the circulatory system which is very important because it help us to transport the oxygen(that is vital for our cells), nutrients and proteins to all our entire body. For understanding better how the circulatory system works we opened a Cow heart, which is very similar to the human heart because it as 2 atrias and 2 ventricles which means is part of a closed circulatory system. A closed circulatory system means is a blood circulation system in which blood moves through the body in closed vessels. In the closed circulatory system, the blood is confined to vessels. The heart pumps blood to vessels through smaller vessels which go to the organs(Definition take from wiki. Answers).

In this experiment my classmates and me notice about the parts that conform a heart from a closed circulatory system. We could notice a very important characteristic of it, that was that the heart have 4 chambers: 1. Right Atrium that is involve of pushing the blood inside the heart for the body, 2. Right Ventricle is involve in pump the blood form the heart to the lungs, 3. Left Atrium is involve of pump the blood from the lungs to the heart and finally the most strong chambers that is the Left ventricle that is involve in pump the rich oxygen blood to the entire body. Between each chambers was a atrioventricular valve that dont let the blood return to chamber it was. 14

How to make cheese By Juan Felipe Ochoa B

Making cheese was an integrate project between many different assignments. In math we did a survey about how much the people of the Rochester School knew about the process of the cheese, in geography class we draw the process in which a product (we could choose the cheese) was from raw material to the final product and which sectors of the economy where involve in this process and why. One of the assignment that more was involve in the integrate was Chemistry in which we were going to made the cheese. The 1st of December, and expert teach us how to make an excellent type of cheese with all the standards and rules it need to have to create an excellent and delicious cheese.

For making cheese we have to follow 11 steps to guarantee it quality: 1. Filtration: Filtrate the milk to remove dust and grass. 2. Pasteurization: (62 degrees C for 30 min) 3. Temperature: (38 degrees C) 4. Add calcium 5. Rennet: (30 degrees C for 30 min) 6. Cut the substance: 1cm 7. Agitation :( 35- 40 degrees C for 30 min ) 8. Straining 9. Salado(10 grams per liter) 10. Mold the cheese. 11. Packaging and Storage 15

Power Balance A magic bracelet or a huge lie ? By Juan Felipe Ochoa B

Can a Power Balance make you a goal, an ace or only a fool that believes in every crab it hears? For the people that doesnt know jet what is a Power Balance, is a brand of hologram bracelet once claimed by its manufacturers and vendors to "use holographic technology" to "resonate with and respond to the natural energy field of the body", and increase sporting ability(Definition taken from Wikipedia). Adding to this particular explanation is the huge publicity that Power Balance has made to sell it wristbands such as many famous athletes using their energical bracelet (Cristiano Ronaldo , Kobe Bryant , David Beckman etc. ) This wonderful product was sold in Europe for only 30 Euros, so how to resist to be more health and strong for only 30 euros.

The only truth I can say about Power Balance is that it was sued by many countries such as Spain(Facua), Italy , Chile and Australia for a misleading advertising and lack of scientific evidence. I considered myself a incredulous person, but after saying a wristband that give you health and strength was impossible , I get tempted, so I bought a white power balance. In my case I feel this hologram bracelet is a lie because I dont felt the change from when I was making exercise or sports after and before using the power balance . Could be that other people have another point of view, but what I can say from me experience using Power Balance is that is a huge lie. 16

Nelson Mandela a tool to finish the apartheid: By Juan Felipe Ochoa B

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (born 18 July 1918) served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999, and was the first South African president to be elected in a fully representative democratic election(Part take from Wikipedia). Nelson Mandela fights for the equality of black and white people , and with his acts, he obtained the finish of the apartheid(Apartheid was a system of racial segregation enforced by the National Party governments of South Africa between 1948 and 1994) in South Africa, returning to the black people their human rights. Nelson Mandela need to suffered a lot to obtain the freedom of his country, he was 27 years in jail because he was opposed to the apartheid politics that were imposed.

Nelson Mandela start his political career very young but always have the vision of the sameness between white and black people. He participates in many pacific disobedience campaigns against the apartheid politics. He was send to the Robben Island prison for 27 years. After his release on February 11, 1990, Mandela led his party in the negotiations for a multiracial democracy in South Africa, which was achieved in 1994 with the first democratic elections by universal suffrage. Mandela won the election to be the President of South Africa in 1994 . Then after he fights to the rejection of racism, and become a figure of peace. In the year 1993 won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Global Warming By Juan Felipe Ochoa B

Our planet is in accelerated global warming due to accumulation in the atmosphere of a series of gases originating from human activities, retain the heat we receive from the sun, acting as a coat or a greenhouse. Primarily responsible for the greenhouse effect is CO2 (carbon dioxide), which is mainly produced in the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) for energy. The main source of CO2 in Spain are the power plants. So the weather and all its ecosystem is threatened by power plants, continuously spewing CO2 into the atmosphere, while producing electricity as a byproduct.

So to reduce CO2 emissions (and must be done urgently, according to scientists at the IPCC, if we stop global warming) is not possible to apply filters, not much use to improve the combustion process or simply changing a fossil fuel for another. The only solution is to burn fewer fossil fuels, and to substitute for other non-polluting.

One of the biggest threats to our planet is climatic change caused by greenhouse gases, produced mainly by the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere. The burning of fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas) emits large amounts of CO2. The aim of Greenpeace climate change is to stop fighting for a policy change in favor of saving energy, efficient use of energy and developing clean and renewable energies.
