COURSE OBJECTIVE: At the completion of the course, students will be expected to : Study, identify, and develop specific management skills, with a view towards becoming an effective player, manager, or leader in the public health and health care environment. Description Promoting And Building A New HospitalPlanning ,guiding principles in hospital facilities and services; preliminary survey; financial and equipment planning; operational and functional plan; facility master plan; design team; design development stage; planning the hospital building; building contract and contract documents; purchase of capital equipment; furnishing and equipping the hospital; ready to operate stage; before opening the hospital; commissioning and inauguration Planning And Designing A Hospital : A well-formulated business plan; facility master planning is quintessential for successful design; the built infrastructure strongly impacts the functioning of the hospital; hospitals: one of the most complex building types; the most successful architectural process. Planning And Designing Administrative Services: (overview, functions, location, design, facilities and space requirements) Executive suite; professional service unit; financial management unit; hospital information system; nursing service administration; human resource management; public relations department; marketing. Planning And Designing Medical And Ancillary Services: (overview, functions, location, design ,organization, facilities and space requirements) Outpatient services; emergency services; clinical laboratories; radiological services (diagnostic radiology ; radiation therapy department) ; nuclear medicine ; surgical department ; labor and delivery suite physical medicine and rehabilitation(physical therapy, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, speech and hearing therapy); pulmonary medicine; cardiac catheterization laboratory. Planning and Designing Supportive Services: (overview, functions, location, design ,organization, facilities and space requirements) Admitting department; medical records department, central sterilisation and supply department; pharmacy; food service department; laundry and linen service; house keeping; volunteer department;materials management(overview,centralised purchasing, Checklists and rules of materials management,receiving,inventory control, stores control ,perpetual inventory system,distribution, products standardization, vendor evaluation, prime vendor contract, Location, organization,facilities and space requirements). Planning And Designing Public Areas And Staff Facilities: Public areas of hospital-entrance and lobby area; main waiting area; gift shop/book shop and florists shop; coffee shop-cum-snack bar; mediation/quiet room; staff facilities. Planning And Designing Hospital Services : Engineering department- Overview, functions, location, design, organization and problem situations Biomedical engineering- overview, functions, location, design, space, facilities, utilities, organization, instrumentation evaluation ,instrument control.
