Participation is open to industry, academia, government, and media, and is SUBJECT TO Free REGISTRATION USW 2011 aims to find answers and present solutions to several questions related to current status of Smart Grid from industry and academic leaders; and to identify technical roadblocks for innovative research. USW 2011 also aims to educate the participants about concepts of Smart Grid through a special keynote speech session.

In his current position at GE, John McDonald is responsible for setting and driving the vision that integrates GEs standards participation, and Digital Energys industry organization participation, thought leadership activities, regulatory/policy participation, education programs, and product/systems development into comprehensive solutions for customers. In the past he has been awarded the IEEE Millennium Medal, the IEEE PES Excellence in Power Distribution Engineering Award and many other honors. In 2010-2011 he was Chair for the NIST Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) Governing Board and is a member of NEMAs Smart Grid Council. In addition to having multiple publications he teaches a Smart Grid course for GE and others for the Georgia Institute of Technology and various IEEE PES local chapters.
