INTRODUCTION

Horizon was established in 2002 with the express purpose of offering flight training for military and civilian customers within the Middle East. Operations began in September 2003 after the Abu Dhabi government owned Mubadala Development Company (MDC), with the support of the UAE Offsets Group (UOG), set up the flight academy in Al Ain. The Academy has generated a great amount of interest among the local and regional military and civilian sectors. Admitting both local and international students, the cadet pilots at Horizon have included trainees from the UAE Armed Forces, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Nigeria, Cyprus as well as Etihad Airways. Horizon has the edge over other flight training academies as it offers both helicopter and aeroplane pilot training programs that include PPL, CPL, ATPL and Flight Instructor Rating. Horizons syllabus is based on the JAA FCL curriculum with the issue of relevant licenses by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) after successful completion of the course. Advanced flying training courses are also offered.

ACADEMY

Al Ain
Set within the boundary of the Al Ain International Airport and using a purpose built flight training facility, Horizon has set the benchmark for pilot training in the Middle East. Birthplace of the Ruler of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Al Ain is Abu Dhabis second city and home to some of the UAEs major universities. The Academy is set amidst a sea of rolling red sand dunes, 23 KM from downtown Al Ain which, with its broad avenues, palm groves and rich heritage of ancient adobe forts and other traditional buildings, providies the perfect setting to learn how to fly.

Selection Process
Whilst offering high standards of quality training courses, the Horizon selection process is inclusive of, but not limited to, psychometric and personality tests, trial flying lessons and interviews to help in minimising attrition rates and subsequent costs to individuals and organisations.

Faculty
The staff, a diverse team of multinational instructors originating from the UAE, South Africa, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan and Jordan, are amongst the most qualified in the region. Horizon guarantees individual attention during all the phases of training by maintaining an enviable instructor-to-student ratio of nearly 1:4, or better.

Facilities
With its strategic location at the Al Ain International Airport, Horizon boasts world class pilot training facilities. Covering an area of over 3,000 square meters, the Academys main block houses the administration offices as well as the helicopter division. The Academys flight training facilities are co-located within the Horizon campus area and the dispersal consists of nine helipads, while the aeroplane division is located at the fixed wing hangar. Weather conditions in Al Ain are perfect for learning to fly with few days lost due to bad conditions. The helicopter training program has the additional benefit of presenting many opportunities for limited power scenarios, mountain flying, and desert training conditions.

OUR COURSES

Private Pilot Licence Aeroplane - PPL (A)

Aim of the Course
The PPL (A) course is offered to pilots who wish to fly for recreational purposes. A PPL allows a pilot to act as pilot-in-command or co-pilot of any aeroplane engaged in non-revenue flights.

Frozen Air Transport Pilot Licence Aeroplane - ATPL (A)

Aim of the Course
The aim of the Frozen ATPL (A) integrated course is to train pilots to the level of proficiency necessary to enable them to operate as co-pilot on multi-pilot, multi-engine aeroplanes in commercial air transportation. It is an ab-initio course (no previous flying experience is required). The integrated program provides the uninterrupted training of all courses mandatory for ATPL (A). The ATP License is frozen until the pilot reaches 1,500 hours of flying experience.

Credit for previous experience:

In the case of a PPL (A) holder, 50% of the aircraft hours flown by the entrant prior to the course may be credited towards the required flight up to a credit of 40 hours flying experience or 45 hours if an aeroplane night flying qualification has been obtained, of which up to 20 hours may be dual instruction.
