Rainwater harvesting
for housing technology and garden irrigation

Rainwater harvesting
ecological and economical
The advantages of rainwater harvesting lie in the marked reduction in the demand for drinking water and associated costs without having to cut down on water usage. In the case of harvesting rainwater as drinking water after appropriate disinfection and filtering procedures, the advantages of the purity of rainwater and the original structure of the water are utilised for the benefit of human health. Rainwater treatment according to the application Rain cleans the air by absorbing dissolved oxygen and nitrogen along with dust and substances such as carbon dioxide. According to the desired use of the rainwater the following treatment methods are shown: For garden irrigation Gutter grilles, inlet cleaning Extraction from the clean water layer in the tank For home technology (Washing machine / toilet / irrigation) Biovitor with marble gravel or built-in tank filter with inlet cleaning Floating suction filter For the entire domestic water demand Drinking water purification using ozone, UV light and activated carbon treatment

Rainwater harvesting
ecological and economical
Promoting rainwater harvesting Funding exists for private and commercial initiatives for rainwater harvesting and percolation which relieve the pressure on sewage works and groundwater protection. We offer you high-quality rainwater harvesting systems, such as the first rainwater harvesting system with 100% water extraction through biological treatment with our patented Biovitor technology. This technology, proven in practice, provides you with clear, odourless and hygienically safe rainwater. Rainwater is more than just a substitute: washing (laundry): soft, clean, white no fabric softener required rainwater does not contain any calcium, making calci fied washing machines and limescale in toilets and wash basins a thing of the past cleaning no limescale after drying rainwater is much kinder to sensitive skin pets will be happier with clear, clean rainwater garden irrigation plants naturally tolerate soft rainwater Drinking water from rainwater: has an exceptionally high purity as well as the original water quality best digestible to humans treating rainwater with RainSafe creates a highquality drinking water ideally suited for domestic use including drinking and cooking.

Hygiene Modern rainwater harvesting systems properly managed are completely safe hygienically and produce a rainwater quality which is significantly below the European directive threshold levels for bathing water. Safety The safety aspect for a specific domestic and business use of rainwater is ensured by producing a separate system for rainwater harvesting with no direct connection to the public drinking water supply.

Replacing 50% of your drinking water would result in considerable annual savings, and this would make your rainwater harvesting system pay for itself within a few years and sustainably reduce the strain on the environment.

Consistent quality management in accordance with the strict standards of ISO 9001:2000 certification, modern technologies and optimal material selection are the prerequisites that enable the GreenLife underground tanks and earth shafts to satisfy the highest demands. This is why we provide you with a warranty of 15 years on our underground tanks providing that operation and installation are in compliance with our instructions. Components and accessories are excluded from the warranty, even if they are included in the package price. Important: empty all above-ground tanks and storage containers if there is a risk of frost. If there is groundwater, stratum water or the risk of flooding or waterlogging of the earth near to the tank, please discuss this with us before purchasing. Complete System U 1.1

The GreenLife System U 1.1 operates with a clean water pressure pump with float suction. This means that the water is taken from where it is cleanest just under the surface. Your advantage: no pumping noise in the house. The flow controller switches the pump on, when a consumer in the rainwater supply system is opened and vice versa. If required, a float switch automatically switches on the solenoid valve for the drinking water on the occasions the rainwater tank is empty to ensure there is always a plentiful supply of water.

Wissens- und Beachtenswertes

bei der Planung Ihrer Regenwassernutzungsanlage

Choosing the volume of the tank

is a particularly important step to ensure that your system fully meets your requirements and options. As a general rule, you should capture as much rainwater as possible. Any water not used domestically or for garden irrigation can according to the conditions be used for spraying or percolation; this will save you the charges introduced by an increasing number of local authorities for sealed surfaces. You can also find the best GreenLife quality system to suit your needs. You may use the following rule of thumb for the first rough calculations: For each person you need an minimum annual tank volume of 1,500 litres. For a tank volume of 1,000 litres, a roofed surface of 15m is necessary.

Tips from the expert!

- Read carefully the installation and operating instructions; not following them may lead to loss of your warranty. - Ensure that the supply pipe from the tank to the house is protected from frost (min. 80cm earth covering) - The supply pipe (KG pipe DN 100) from the tank to the house should have an continuous ascending gradient of 1%. Only create angles of less than 45. - Seal the wall feed-through for supply lines in the house with a seal. - The diameter of rainwater pipes must not be reduced in front of or behind tank or filter units. - All water inflow to the tank must be calmed to avoid stirring up sediment from the tank floor. - The overflow must be installed as a siphon in the tank (skimmer effect), It serves as an odour seal and for removing the layer of scum. - Always install the suction line as a floating line. To avoid the withdrawal of sediment, either underwater pressure pumps must be installed as suspended units or you may use a suction pot or a floating suction to prevent the suction of sediment. - The drinking water feed can be made via a feed module; however, it must Tank volume litres

More detailed calculations tailored to your needs are shown in the following table:

always be implemented as a separate outlet. This outlet must be installed above the backflow level, i.e. the level of the kerb of the adjacent road. - Plastic pipes should be used for rainwater harvesting systems, as they are more durable than other materials and ensure the best water quality. - Fine filters installed in the house have a negative effect on the quality of the rainwater, as they promote bacterial growth. We therefore strongly recommend that you do not use them. Good systems should filter the rainwater before or in the tank. - The pressure of the pump should be controlled by an automatic switching devices. You should avoid using membrane expansion vessels (risk of germ

Do not rely on hearsay and permission; please carry out a percolation test yourself. - Good advice obtained before installation saves time, money and problems.

Percolation
You can drive on soakaway storage tanks, if they are installed 80 cm underground in compliance with the installation instructions
From an ecological perspective extremely useful in directly enriching groundwater, as well as saving money no channel installation, no sealing charges charged by many local authorities (hitherto between 0.60 and 1.60 EUROs per m annually). Towns and municipalities are legally obliged to generally introduce this charge in keeping with a sense of fairness; this way you only pay for the actual areas linked and not a flat-rate. General information: only percolation through green surfaces (defined as natural ground consisting of a meadow with a topsoil layer of a minimum 30cm) is exempt from any charges in Germany. All other seepage systems are generally subject to charges. For more information, you are recommended to contact your local planning office prior to construction. A percolation test is advisable, because the builder (proprietor) is responsible for any damage caused by his system, even if permission has been granted. Percolation test: dig a 50 x 50 x 50 cm hole, and keep filling it for 2 hours with water (to saturate the earth). Then fill the hole to a depth of 30 cm and measure the time it takes for the water to percolate. If the water level drops accordingly, then you have a more or less water-permeable soil. Compare your result with the following table to obtain the storage volume required. If the water level does not drop, you should not install a percolation system at this location. Table for storage volume / number of soak-away storage tanks Seepage test Drop in level/time over 15 cm / 30 min over 5 cm / 30 min over 5 cm / 90 min 2 to 5 cm / 90 min linked sealed area (m2) 100 100 100 100 Retention capacity (litres) 950 1.900 2.700 3.100 Number of 280 l tanks 4 7 10 11

Rainwater retention
Rainwater retention is becoming compulsory in an increasing number of communities in order to reduce the rainwater load in the sewer systems, as well as allowing for a more economical design of sewer systems in new buildings developments. The retention tanks store the rainwater and release it after a delay at a limited flow rate to the sewer system. With a flow rate of 0.015 l/sec, for example, 2,592 litres of rainwater can be continuously released into the sewer system in 48 hours. Included- Legend in delivery x 1 Underground tank x 2 Telescopic dome with plastic cover x 3 Overflow siphon with animal guard and skimmer effect 4 Outlet to rainwater channel x 5 Inlet calmer 6 Rainwater inlet 7 Connection to domestic water system 8 Retention outlet to sewer pipe x 9 Retention restrictor with float ball 10 Floating suction filter for rainwater harvesting 11 Part of rainwater for retention 12 Part of rainwater for harvesting x 13 Inlet calming pipe x 4 DN 100 connections

When correctly dimensioned, this variant of the underground tank can be used for rainwater harvesting in the home and garden, as well as for retention.

Rainwater management modules

Rainwater management module GRM 1.0

The rainwater module pumps operate fully automatically and provide water on a reliable basis for domestic and garden use. If there is a shortage of rainwater, a floating switch in the underground tank will switch on the water supply to the pump with drinking water directly via the tank. Once the tank is filled with rainwater, the module automatically switches over to rainwater supply. To avoid stagnating water, the drinking water in the drinking water tank is automatically replaced after 10 days. In the event of a dry run, the pump automatically switches off.

Advantages:
Simple assembly Can be floor or wall mounted Very quiet Stagnation protection

Extension packet for home and garden U 1.1
The U1.0 extension packet for home and garden for your existing rainwater tank operates with an underwater drinking water pump. Advantage: no pumping noises in the house. The integrated limit switch automatically and reliably controls the water supply for all consumers. In the event of there being no rainwater in the tank in periods of long dry weather, it will be immediately filled with drinking water. There is always sufficient water available. When the tank is full with rainwater, the solenoid valve will be closed.

BIOVITOR
Biovitor cleans rainwater using a completely new patented active principle. Perfectly designed and process optimised dimensions of the compartments and diffusers ensure optimal biological processing to the highest degree of effectiveness.

Arguments that convince:

high water yield as no rainwater is lost due to dirty filters required only occasional servicing (every 5 or more years - in the event of very heavy leaf fall, gutter grilles or a leaf catcher should be used) ideal for percolation, as direct connection possible based on a purely biological active principle to degrade all organic components in rain water non-organic components are separated out can be retro-fitted in practically all rainwater systems marble gravel may neutralise acid rainwater
