December 14, 2011 Media Release Re: Onondaga County Man Arrested for Robbing Auburn Convenience Store

On Tuesday December 13th, 2011 at approximately 7:21pm, the Cayuga County E-911 Center received a call from an employee at 50 Owasco St., Fine Food and Gas convenience store reporting that he had just been assaulted and robbed. The employee reported that the suspect, a white male, had just fled the scene on S. Fulton Street towards E. Genesee Street driving a yellow Dodge Neon. Officer David Walters was on routine patrol on Grant Avenue when the robbery call was dispatched. He quickly observed a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description on Brookside Dr. at the intersection of Grant Ave being operated by a white male. Officer Walters proceeded to turn around in order to get behind the possible suspect vehicle and prior to activiating his emergency lights to indicate a traffic stop, the vehicle turned right onto Grant Ave and fled at a high rate of speed. Officer Walters immediately activated his emergency lights and sirens and attempted to get the vehicle to stop but the vehicle failed to comply. Sgt. Edward Fabrize then joined the pursuit on Grant Avenue Road which continued through the Village of Elbridge and eventually ended in the Village of Camillus in the area of 72 Main Street where the suspect lost control of the vehicle, striking curbing. The white male suspect exited the Dodge Neon and fled on foot. After a short search of the area the suspect was found hiding underneath a pine tree on Joel Drive in the Village of Camillus. The suspect, identified as 24 year old Daniel Boyden was then taken into custody. Further investigation into the incident revealed that at approximately 7:15pm Boyden entered the Fine Food and Gas Convenience store to purchase lottery tickets. When the clerk rang up the purchase, Boyden stated he did not have enough money and said he had to return to his car to get more money. The clerk walked into the stores office and a short time later Boyden came back into the store, walked behind the store counter and struck the clerk in the head with a 40 oz. bottle of beer, demanding the clerk open the register. The clerk stated he then ran from the store. Once outside, the store clerk reported seeing the male then flee the store with the entire register and get into a yellow Dodge Neon.
