More than 800 middle school students from Irving ISD rallied behind science, technology, engineering and

math (STEM) education on December 7 at the Ellis Davis Field House during The Dream Tour, a high-energy motivational program presented by Dr. Bernard A. Harris Jr., the first African-American to walk in space. Students from Irving ISD participated in the two-hour, inspirational program designed to encourage STEM-related careers. The high-tech event, supported by Irving Schools Foundations partner, ExxonMobil Foundation, featured interactive science experiments, a simulated shuttle launch and firsthand accounts from ExxonMobil engineers about the rewarding aspects of their careers. The program concluded with a motivational address from Dr. Harris about how he overcame barriers through education and achieved his dreams to become a successful physician, businessman, NASA researcher and astronaut. We are encouraging our sponsors to commit early this year, says Sponsorship Chair, Clem Lear. Sponsorship prices for some levels will increase after January 1, 2012. We expect to sell out and no one should miss out on this great event! As IHFs primary beneficiary, Baylor Medical Center at Irving is the citys only nonprofit hospital, but there are several other worthy recipients of the funds raised through this special event, such as the Irving Dental Center, Our Childrens House at Baylor in Irving, and Irving Interfaith Clinic. Te x a s F e s t serves as an important networking opportunity, as well as a great time to show off your best jeans, boots and bling. But, most importantly, its a good way to support the healthcare in your community and get involved in something positive. More information about sponsorships for the TexasFest party and about IHF, see thier site at www.healthyirving.org. Opportunities for sponsorship begins at $500 and please dont forget your paperwork for your taxes!
