The Board met on December 5th for its regular meeting and held public hearings on a rezone request from B2 commercial to R1 residential for the former Coffee Attic and 3rd Court curb and gutter assessments. Both items were approved after close of the hearings. In other business the Board approved an ordinance banning weapons in Village buildings, approved 2012 election poll workers, 2012 beer garden permits and an operators license. The next Regular Village Board meeting is Tuesday, January 3rd at 7:00 PM. On behalf of the Village Board and Staff, we wish you joy and peace this holiday season.
The Village Board met for a special meeting on November 15th and held a public hearing on the 2012 Operating Budget and passed it by ordinance. The Village mill rate was reduced by 2 cents over last year. I want to inform everyone that the Trempealeau Police Department hired Nathan Casper as a full-time police officer. Nathan was employed by the Trempealeau Police Department as a part -time officer in 2010. Nathan then received full-time employment with Eau Claire Police Department. Nathan is originally from La Crosse, Wisconsin. Nathan is also an EMT-Basic and First Responder for the Town of Campbell. Nathan will be a great asset to the Village of Trempealeau and to its citizens. Operation Shoebox Following in Phyllis Woods footsteps was easy with the support of so many people. Faithful followers as well as new eager helpers made our year a success. Trempealeau Chamber of Commerce The Trempealeau Chamber held its 1st Annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, December 3. We had 11 chilis, sold homemade baked goods and had a raffle. It was a SUCCESS, thanks to you & your support. Funds raised will go towards new Welcome signs for the Village. We had a special treat when Choir Director Ryan Stuempges (G-E-T HS) and his vocal jazz kids came and sang Christmas carols & other songs they were fantastic. Tax Information
Real Estate and Personal Property Tax Bills will be mailed out by December 15th Vicki Freeman, Village of Trempealeau Treasurer can accept payments for the first installment or any amount paid for the current tax year by January 31st, 2012. Payments may be made in the following manner: Mailing Tax Payments Please make checks payable to: Village of Trempealeau Treasurer and mail to Village of Trempealeau, PO Box 247, Trempealeau, WI 54630. If mailing your tax payment, please include the bottom portion of the tax bill corresponding to the payment you are making. If you would like a receipt, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope, and we will mail a receipt to you. Payments postmarked by December 31, 2011 will be applied in 2011. In Person Payments & Village Hours for Tax Collection Tax payments can be made in person during normal business hours: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The Village Office will be closed Friday December 23rd and Monday December 26th for Christmas and will close at Noon on Friday December 30th and all day Monday, January 2nd, 2012 for the New Year. There is a drop box outside the Community Center that may be used. Any payments retrieved from the box on Tuesday, January 3rd will be applied as payments made in 2011 unless otherwise noted. The Village is unable to process credit or debit card payments in the office.
Refunds If your escrow check is larger than your tax bill, you will be issued a refund check. Refund checks are mailed the day after the monthly Board meeting. Online Tax Payments may be used for 2nd Installment or Delinquent Taxes Only Payment of delinquent property taxes or the 2nd installment payment can be made by credit card or e-check through the Official Payments website. There may be a fee associated with this service. You may not use this service during December and January when payments have to be made to your Municipal Treasurer. Visit the Treasurers page on the Trempealeau Countys website at www.tremplocounty.com for more information. 2nd Installment The 2nd installment is due by July 31st each year and is payable to the Trempealeau County Treasurer. The payment must be mailed to: Trempealeau County Courthouse, Attn: County Treasurer, PO Box 67, Whitehall, WI 54773.
Dog Licensing
**NEW CHANGE*** 2012 Licenses will be available at the Village office year round. Dog license fees will be $3.00 if the dog is spayed/neutered and $8.00 if the dog is unaltered. State law requires an additional fee of $5.00 be charged for any dogs licensed after March 31st, 2012 except if the license is for a new dog or was a puppy younger than 6 months old. Owners must show proof of a current rabies vaccination in order to obtain a license.
