SUB : USE OF GRP PIPES IN WATER SUPPLY PROJECTS.

This is with reference to the above subject, Recently MJP has released its DSR for Year: 2007-08. GLASS FIBRE REINFORCED POLYESTER PIPES (GRP) are manufactured as per National and International Standards and are used for projects involving transmission of Potable Water Supply, Raw Water, Sewerage, Irrigation and Borewell Applications. Lalit Polymers & Electronics Ltd (LPEL) is a part of the Kanoria Group of Companies, which has business interests in infrastructure, sugar and pharmaceuticals. LPEL has set up an ultra modern state-of-the-art unit for manufacturing of GRP pipes, tanks and other products made of Glassfibre reinforced with unsaturated polyester Resins. The company manufactures GRP pipes, tanks and silos using fully automated and computer controlled Filament Winders with internationally acclaimed Dual Helix Filament Winding Technology. GRP is a composite material wherein the glass fibers with their high mechanical strength form the reinforcing structural part, whereas the resin is the chemically resistant matrix which renders the product impermeable and bonds together the glass fibers, thus enabling the stresses to be distributed. LALIT Technology uses combination of C & E glass having excellent resistance to chemicals and high electrical and mechanical strength. The Resins employed are of Vinyl ester, Isopthalic and Orthopthalic formulations which offer high chemical inertness to the pipe structure. MANUFACTURING PROCESS The process used by LALIT for the manufacture of GRP Pipes is the world renowned Helical Filament Winding Process, which manufactures GRP, pipes in discrete length of 12 meters. The Filament Winding process involves the impregnation of a number of glass reinforcing strands with a polyester resin, which is then applied in a wet impregnated state forming the impervious liner, which is the first point of contact with the fluid. The

fiberglass rovings are then wound on the the mandrel, under controlled tension in a predetermined pattern. The entire pipe manufacturing process is controlled by a computer controlled microprocessor. Silica sand if used is added during the winding process in the structural wall of the pipe to give necessary compressive strength, if required.

SIZES : Nominal Internal diameter pipe Range (mm) 150 mm to 4000 mm Pressure Class Range (Bar) 3 Bar to 40 Bar Stiffness Range (kPa) 62 to 496 EXCELLENT HYDRAULIC CHARACTERISTICSENERGY SAVINGS Owing to their perfectly smooth surface. LALIT GRP pipes carry a great advantage from the hydraulic point of view. The Hazen Williams coefficient i.e. the C value for GRP pipes is 150 as given by AWWA. But in practice, one can easily achieve a C value of 160 for LALIT pipes. LALIT pipes undergo much smaller losses of head as compared to traditional pipe materials. For GRP pipes, such losses of head are constant in the long term; this fact results in less power consumption for pumping, translating in to saving of crores of rupees on pumping costs ( energy costs ) and capital equipment costs. CORROSION RESISTANCE AND MECHANICAL STRENGTH Corrosion which is the greatest foe of industrial installations is a no issue with LALIT GRP pipes which are resistant to majority of chemicals and are not subject to attack by effluents, sea water, corrosive soil, weathering, stray currents or electrolytic corrosion. LALIT GRP pipes have a mechanical strength between 3 to 5 times greater than that of plastic pipes commonly used. LALIT GRP pipeline retains all its excellent properties over a very long life span. LIGHT WEIGHT AND NO MAINTENANCE LALIT GRP pipes are very light weight ( 1/5th the weight of Mild Steel, 1/7th the weight of cast iron and 1/10th the weight of Pre Stressed Concrete). This results in ease of movement and ability to use very long individual lengths of pipes (generally 12 meters). In addition, the light weight enables several pipes to be nested, one inside another. Further, the operations at the worksite are easily carried out with a much smaller work force with easier lifting means. Long length of 12-meter pipes require lesser number of joints in the pipeline, resulting in better maintenance and leak tightness of the entire pipeline. Also owing to its high inertness to chemicals, LALIT pipes need neither regular painting nor cathodic protection or bituminous coatings.

QUALITY CHECKS Our procedure is very strict and is carried out in conformity with IS and ASTM standards, so that nothing is left to chance. Just to mention a few, we carry out a check on the raw materials, a gas liquid chromatography analysis on the polymerization, a direct measurement of the thicknesses of the matrices, a check on the percentages of the reinforcement in the individual processing phases and a check on the mechanical and elastic properties of the laminates and products. Furthermore, our each and every pipe is hydraulically tested at a pressure double that of the operating pressure, thus ensuring quality pipes. We ensure compliance with the laid down technical specifications. We also guarantee that the product can be reproduced perfectly with a constant level of quality.

STANDARDS FOLLOWED ASTM D 2996 ASTM D 3517 ASTM D 3754 ANSI/AWWA C 950 ANSI/AWWA M- 45, BS5480 IS 12709 IS 14402 ISO.

JOINTING SYSTEM LALIT GRP pipes incorporate the Bell and Spigot type joint sealed with a rubber gasket. No additional operation other than installing the gasket and mating the two sections are required to obtain an effective seal. Patching, painting or caulking of the joint is not necessary The Bell and Spigot ends are integral parts of the pipe structure, providing the same high strength and corrosion resistant charactertics as the pipe barrel. The joint is suitable for both gravity and pressure pipe and has been tested at pressures exceeding 35 Bar.

It is our sincere request to kindly look into the matter & obliged. Thanking you and assuring you of our best attention at all times. Youre faithfully. FOR LALIT POLYMERS & ELECTRONICS LTD.
