Life cycle costs: more transparency in planning. It is only possible to determine how economically efficient a pump system really is by taking all the costs incurred into account. The simple investment costs for pumps and accessories are just the tip of the iceberg. Much more
decisive are the operating costs which arise over the long service life of the pump. These life-cycle costs should be precisely calculated when planning any system installation, or when replacing existing pumps. Depending on the area of application, a wide range of cost factors come into the reckoning. Our
planning advisers will help you to identify all the relevant costs and find the most efficient long-term solution for your requirements.

Best levels of efficiency. Submersible mixers are in operation on average for 12 to 24 hours a day. Given such long operating times, power consumption is extremely important. Over the entire service life, energy costs account for approx. two-thirds of total costs, while the purchase costs are relatively low, accounting for only 20%. The investment in energy-saving technology therefore pays for itself in a very short time. Wilo-EMU Megaprop 3-blade submersible mixers function up to 20% more efficiently than conventional 2-blade systems. In an ideal case, their use makes it possible to dispense with one mixer in the tank. Whats more, they are much less affected by inhomogeneous inflows in the surrounding medium.
This substantially improves the smooth running of the system especially at difficult installation locations and has a highly beneficial effect on the service life of the mechanical components. Owing to the 50% lower blade loading, the risk of blade fractures occurring is also significantly reduced. The light, shape-optimised 3D geometries of the mixer blades achieve an optimal energy input into the media. With a 4 kW motor it is therefore possible to save up to 6,000 kWh of electricity per year. With the aid of modern Wilo-EMU design software the right, and thus most energyefficient, mixer can be determined quite easily for any installation.

Long-term process reliability. The increasing use of water-saving flushing systems in toilets has resulted in the contaminant content of effluent becoming much higher in proportion to the water content. Among other things, this has led to a higher concentration of corrosive and abrasive constituents. Effluent pumps are permanently exposed to this extremely aggressive medium. Corrosion and abrasion impact on the surface and material structures of the pumps causing, in some cases, considerable reduction in performance. The hydraulic efficiency levels, for instance, are significantly reduced (graphic 1). This not only results in higher electricity consumption by the pump but, owing to the shift in the loading point of the
motor and hydraulic system, it also causes a severe reduction in life expectancy. Whereas pumps made of standard materials such as cast iron have to be replaced as a rule after just 500 operating hours, a ceram coating can increase the service life by up to four times, without any decrease in efficiency*, i.e. the energy costs remain extremely low. If the costs are viewed over the entire service life of the pump, the investment costs for a ceram-coated pump are inconsequential, at less than 1%. In addition, considerable savings potential also derives from the distinctly lower repair expenditures and the appreciably reduced amount of downtime. As a result, the ceram coating pays for itself within the first 1,000 operating hours, i.e. within the first year.
*Compared with uncoated cast iron, efficiency can be increased by up to 3%.
Sewage pump with ceramic coating service life can be strongly increased low maintenance costs by longer service intervals high efficiency and lower energy costs increase of efficiency by 3% and therefore lower energy costs

Lowest possible down time. Obtaining the optimum working life for a pump requires regular and proper servicing. Maintenance costs depend on the time and frequency of service, as well as the availability of spare parts. Lead times in spare parts have an obvious relationship to downtime, because when spare parts are not available repairs cannot be done and the pump and system cannot operate. Wilo vertical multi-stage pumps have an integrated ball bearing inside the lantern which covers the axial thrust of the hydraulics, and are fitted with standard IEC V1/V18 motors. This means that if a motor needs to be replaced, any standard IEC V1/V18 motor can be used.
Ordering and delivery time can therefore be substantially shortened, reducing downtime of the system. Another advantage of the lantern/bearing configuration is that no adjustments need to be made to the factory preset mechanical seal. Since the mechanical seal is the weakest part of the pump an incorrect readjustment leads to a higher risk of leakages, leading to other damages of the pump. Due to the easy service and potentially faster motor replacement the labour time can be reduced by up to 25%, meaning that the systems downtime can be substantially reduced.

Advisory service and planning. Customer advisory service starts with the exact determination of needs in a personal advisory discussion. Specialists in our construction department calculate individual solutions for every need. Calculation of the pipework. A special programme determines all relevant sizes such as geodetical head, head loss, capacity, flow, velocity, etc.
Pump selection. If the basic planning data, capacity and head are available, our unique software Wilo-EMU Select chooses the right pump. Calculation of the flow. By using a specially designed software package it is possible to calculate the flow in impellers, casings intake, structures and discharge pipelines.
Pump installation. Installation and complete connection of our pumps and systems is done by qualified workers with many years of experience in field installations. Customer service. We offer fast and reliable execution of repair and maintenance work, including just-in-time-supply and delivery of spare parts.
