Building on three decades of experience in the
design and manufacture of low-power radio
frequency (RF) products, today RFM is enabling
OEM design engineers to connect and network
more devices, equipment, and processes than
ever before.
Depth. Founded in 1979 to design and manufacture low-power RF products using
surface acoustic wave (SAW) technology, RFM products now include RF communications
components, subsystem short-range radios, RF modules and boxed radios for a broad
range of industrial, commercial and consumer applications.
Breadth. With the acquisition of modules manufacturer Cirronet in 2006, RFMs
product portfolio provides a comprehensive selection of wireless standards and
proprietary-based communications and networking products.
M2M. Wireless technology is the key to machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity. When
embedded into original equipment manufacturers (OEM) next-generation products, RFM
products enable end-users to connect, communicate, control and monitor wireless-
enabled OEM devices over the Internet.

RFM is one of the very few wireless technology providers offering RFM Modules
and Short-Range Radios that can enable wireless connectivity for monitoring
and controlling energy distribution of power, water and gas from the plant,
through substations, down feeds, and all the way to the meter.
In addition to products suitable for commercial and consumer applications,
RFMs product portfolio includes industrial grade, field-proven products that
meet the rigorous demands of electric power plants, remote windmill farms, solar power farms, nuclear power sites, natural gas, and
public utilities require. Many of these products are based on RFMs proprietary frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technology
that ensure long-range data througput even in the precense of electrical noise and multi-path fading.
With RFMs advanced DNT FHSS and XDM WirelessHART RF modules, RFM
provides state-of-the-art wireless communications systems that meet
requirements for harsh industrial environments. The DNT and XDM product
lines enable more cost-effective wireless sensor networking for sophisticated
diagnostics, remote monitoring and control and plant optimization than ever
before. Utilizing the XDM WirelessHART modules, process manufacturers can
now add wireless monitoring to a wide range of field devices.
The DNT series provides a cost-effective solution for industrial wireless sensor networking. Applications include environmental alarms
and personnel management that allows for greater safety and compliance. Security applications include the ability to detect intrusions,
control access, report smoke/fire or perform video surveillance within a facility. Wireless connectivity allows mobile workers to access
their application and perform their job where they work. Asset tracking is another key industrial application, allowing for better use
of assets as well as ensuring regulatory compliance for the usage, storage and transportion of hazardous chemicals.
RFM was founded in 1979 as a manufacturer of SAW- and Crystal-based RF
component products to meet the rapidly changing needs of customers. Many
of RFMs resonators and filters are used in automotive remote keyless entry
applications and tire pressure monitoring applications. Additionally, RFM
components are used in Satellite Digital Audio Radio (SDAR), Global Navigation
Systems (GNS), and vehicle theft detection and tracking system.
In addition to RFMs components, RFMs short-range radios and RF modules are often used in automotive and transportation
applications for fleet management for vehicular tracking or sensor monitoring of materials during transport.
Engineers look to RFM SAW- and Crystal-based resonators, filters, and
frequency control products for their communications applications because they
come in a wide range of frequencies and bandwidths and a variety of package
sizes. They are utilized in a host of communications applications such as;
Cellular Subscriber Terminals, Base Stations and Repeaters for GSM, TD-
SCDMA, W-CDMA, CDMA, Wireless Local Loop, LTE, WiMax. They are also used
in CATV infrastructure, SONET, and WLAN.

WIT Series FHSS Wireless Telemetry (page 13). RFM proprietary FHSS RF modules provide robust wireless telemetry for commercial,
industrial and factory environments that require radio transmission that is far more resistant to electrical noise and interference, jamming and
multi-path fading than conventional radio transmission. Originally developed for the military, FHSS is widely utilized for industrial and
manufacturing applications because it employs a technique to spread a signal over multiple frequencies to ensure reliable over-the-air
transmission under adverse conditions. For industrial and SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition industrial automation systems)
applications, FHSS provides ultra-reliable transmission over very long transmission distances. FHSS networking is useful in outdoor applications
where nodes may be separated by up to 20 miles, while ensuring fast, error-free delivery of data. The WIT Series includes:

DNT-Series Multi-Purpose, Multi-function FHSS Wireless Sensor Networking (pages 7-8).
The DNT-Series of FHSS RF modules consist of the highly configurable DNT900 and DNT2400 modules and
the more basic DNT90 and DNT24
+
modules. The DNTs are low-cost, long-range, multi-purpose, multi-
function frequency hopping RF modules. They support analog and digital I/O and serial data, and have
the ability to auto-report and sleep between reports thereby reducing power consumption. DNT-Series

technology; multipoint, point-to-point, and peer-to-peer networks; Analog, Digital and Serial I/O; 128
AES Encryption.

DNT900 / DNT2400 FEATURES: Then DNT900 and DNT2400 provide a selection of over-the-air
data rates and transmit power levels, thus allowing one module to work for many products. When
using the DNT900/DNT2400 modules, designers can be confident that the radio performance can be
adjusted if needed when the design is finished without having to design-in another radio.
HIGHLIGHTS: In addition to the DNT SERIES HIGHLIGHTS above, the DNT900 and DNT2400 offer
tree-routing capability and feature configurable data rates from 38 kb/s and 500 kb/s; configurable
RF power of 1 mW to 1 W (DNT900) and 1 mW to 100 mW (DNT2400); 40+ mile range (DNT900)
and 5+ mile range (DNT2400) with omni-directional antennas (antenna height dependent); 2.8 sq.
inch footprint.
DNT90 / DNT24
+
FEATURES: For very cost-sensitive applications the DNT90 delivers FHSS reliability
without breaking the bank. But that does not mean it is a limited performance module. Best-in-class
RF power, -99 dBm receive sensitivity, and sophisticated networking features allow this low-cost
module to wear the DNT nameplate. HIGHLIGHTS: In addition to the DNT SERIES HIGHLIGHTS
above, the DNT90 and DNT24 offer store-and-forward repeating and features RF data rate of 100
kb/s; configurable RF power of 40 or 158 mW; 5+ mile transmission range line-of-sight; 1.5 sq. inch
footprint and is a drop-in replacement for RFM LPR2430ER 2.4 GHz 802.15.4 modules and the DNT24.
The specifications above are specifically for the DNT90.
(+The DNT24 will be available later in the year 2011. )
