Part 1: Introduction

Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem
In the name of Allaah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy
`
As-'a-lullaahal-Kareem
I ask Allah, the Most Generous,
` `
eem th A ` - Arshil ` - l Rabba
The Lord of the Mighty Throne,
` ' .
Ayyatawallaaka fid-dunyaa wal-aakhirah
To protect you in this world and the Hereafter
` ` ` `
Wa ayyaj`alaka mubaarakan aynamaa kunt
And to make you blessed wherever you are
` ` ` `
shakar iya t ` u haa d i ' man - mim alaka ` aj y y a Wa
And to make you from those who, when given, are thankful,
` `
abar s tuliya - b idhaa Wa
When tested are patient,
` ` .
Wa idhaa adhnabastaghfar
And when sinful, seek forgiveness
` ` ` ` .
Fa inna haa'ulaa'ith-thalaatha `unwaanus-sa`aadah
For certainly, these three are the keys of happiness
Matn Al-Qawaa`id Al-Arba` Page 4 albaseerah.org
Part 2: We Have Been Created to Worship Allaah Alone
` ` ` `
, tih a ` aa t li u llah ka Arshada lam ` I
Know may Allah guide you to His obedience,
` `
: heem a Ibra millata a t neefiyya ha - Annal
that Haneefiyyah, the religion of Ibraaheem is:
` ` ` ` ` ` `
deen - d hu la l a s li mukh hu da h wa a ah l l buda ` An ta
That you worship Allah alone making the religion sincerely for Him

Kamaa qaala Ta`aalaa:
As He, The Most High, said:
m h gfed c l
{And I (Allh) created not the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me
(Alone).} Adh Dhaariyaat (51):56

Matn Al-Qawaa`id Al-Arba` Page 5 albaseerah.org
Part 3: Worship is not regarding as such unless it is
accompanied by Tawheed

Fa'idhaa `arafta annallaha khalaqaka li`ibaadatih,
So when you acknowledge that Allah created you to worship Him,
` ` ` ` ` `
d ee h aw t - at ` ma illa ibaadatan ` laa tusammaa ibaadata ` nal an lam ` Fa
Then know that worship is not (considered) called worship except with Tawheed
` ` `
ahaarah t - t a ` ma a ill alaatan s laa tusammaa alaata s - s na an Kamaa
Just as prayer is not (considered) called prayer except with purification
` ` `
Fa'idhaa dakhalash-shirku fil-`ibaadati fasadat
So when shirk enters into worship it corrupts it (lit. It is spoiled)

kal-hadathi idhaa dakhala fit-taharah
Just like impurity when entered into purity (i.e. It invalidates it)

Matn Al-Qawaa`id Al-Arba` Page 6 albaseerah.org
Part 4: Shirk When Mixed With Worship Corrupts It
`
fsadahaa a baadata i ` l a t haala ithaa k hirka s - nnash a rafta a ` ithaa - Fa
So when you realize that shirk when it is mixed with worship, it (the shirk) ruins it (i.e. The
worship,
`
mal a ` al t ba h a Wa
negates all the actions
` ` ` .
aar n - in f haalideena k - inal m buhu i h aa s aara s Wa
And the one who does it (i.e. the shirk) is forever in the Fire,
` `
`Arafta anna ahamma maa `alayk
Then you will realize that the most important matter (obligatory) upon you:
` ` ` ` ` `
, billaah hirku s - h wa hiyas , habakah s aadhihish h min aka s ukhalli y - ay llallaaha a ` - la haalik d rifatu ` Ma
Knowledge and awareness of this fact, so that Allah may save you from this evil trap
and it is committing shirk with Allah,

Allathee qaalall-laahu Ta`aalaa feeh
Which Allah, The Most High, said concerning it:
m ` _ ~ } |{ z y xwvu t l

{Verily, Allh forgives not (the sin of) setting up partners (in worship) with Him, but He
forgives whom He wills, sins other than that} An Nisaa (4):116
` ` .
Wa dhaalika bima`rifati Arba`i Qawaa`ida Dhakarahallaahu Ta`aalaa Fee Kitaabih
And that (will be achieved) by the knowledge and awareness of four principles which Allah
the Most High, mentioned in His book.

Matn Al-Qawaa`id Al-Arba` Page 7 albaseerah.org
The First Principle : 5 Part

Al-Qaa'idatul-Oolaa
The first principle
` ` ` ` ` `
An Ta`lama annal-kuffaaral-latheena Qaatalahum Rasoolullaahi sallallaahu `alayhi wasalam
That you know the Kuffar, who the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu `alayhi wasalam
fought,
` ` ' ` ` ` ` ` `
Muqirroona bi annallaaha Ta`aalaa Huwal-Khaaliqul-Mudabbir
Used to affirm that Allah, The Most High, was the Creator and the Disposer of all the
affairs

` ` ` ` ` `
Wa anna dhaalika lam yudkhilhum fil-Islaam
But that didnt enter them into Islam
` ` `
Wad-Daleelu Qawluhu Ta`aalaa
And the proof is His saying the Most High:
m

l
{Say (O Muhammad [sal-Allhu 'alayhi wa sallam]): "Who provides for you from the sky
and the earth? Or who owns hearing and sight? And who brings out the living from the
dead and brings out the dead from the living? And who disposes the affairs?" They will
say: "Allh." Say: "Will you not then be afraid of Allh's punishment (for setting up rivals
in worship with Allh)?"} Yunus (10):31

Principle Second The : 6 Part

Al-Qaa`idatu-thaaniyah
The second principle

6.1 SOME REASONS OF THE MUSHRIKEEN FOR COMMITTING SHIRK
` ` `
Annahum yaqooloon
That they (the Mushrikeen) say:
` ` ` ` ` ` `
Maa da`awnaahum wa tawaj-jahnaa ilayhim
We do not call upon and turn towards them
` `
ah ` shafaa - wash qurbati - labil ta li Illaa
except to seek nearness and intercession (i.e.-with Allah).
` ` `
Fadaleelul-qurbati; qawluhu Ta`aalaa:
So the proof against seeking this nearness (through others, like Awliyyah) is the saying of the
Most High:
m d cba` _~}| {
on ml k jihg f e p sr q
x w vut l
{And those who take Auliy' (protectors, helpers, lords, gods) besides Him (say): "We
worship them only that they may bring us near to Allh." Verily, Allh will judge between
them concerning that wherein they differ. Truly, Allh guides not him who is a liar, and a
disbeliever. } Az-Zumar (39):3

Matn Al-Qawaa`id Al-Arba` Page 9 albaseerah.org
` ` `
Wadaleelush-shafaa`ati, qawluhu ta`aalaa:
And the proof (against) of intercession (through Awliyyah) is the saying of the Most High:
m zyxwvutsr
|{ ~} l
{And they worship besides Allh things that harm them not, nor profit them, and they
say: "These are our intercessors with Allh."} Yunus (10):18

6.2 THE FORBIDDEN SHAFAAAH
`
Wash-shafaa`atu shafaa`ataan
And intercession is of two types:
` ` ` .
Shafaa`atun manfeeyyah, wa shafaa`atun muthbatah
The prohibited intercession and the affirmed intercession:
` ` `
Fash-shafaa`atul manfeeyyah
The prohibited intercession
` ` ` ` `
llaah hayri g in m labu t u kaanat t Maa
Is that which is sought from other than Allah
` `
Feemaa laa yaqdiru `alayhi illallaah
Concerning that which none is able to do, except Allaah.
` ` `
Wad-daleelu qawluhu Ta`aalaa
And the proof is the saying of the Most High:
Matn Al-Qawaa`id Al-Arba` Page 10 albaseerah.org
m hg f edc b a` _~}|
m l kj i n q po l
{O you who believe! Spend of that which We have provided for you, before a Day
comes when there will be no bargaining, nor friendship, nor intercession. And it is the
disbelievers who are the Zlimn (wrong doers).} Al Baqarah (2): 254

6.3 THE AFFIRMED SHAFAAAH
` ` ` `
, Allaah min labu t tu latee - iyal h : uthbatah m atul ` hafaa s - Wash
And the affirmed intercession: it is that which is sought from Allah,
` ` ` ` ` `
Wash-shaafi`u mukarramun bish-shafaa`ah
and the intercessor is honored with the intercession
` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
idhn ' dal ` ba malahu a ` wa awlahu q llaahu ya dhi ra man u lahu ` ashfoo m - Wal
and the one interceded for, is one whom Allah is pleased with his speech and actions,
after He gives permission,

Kamaa qaala Ta`aalaa:
as He, The Most High, said:
m l
{Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission?}Al Baqarah(2): 255

Principle Third The : 7 Part

Al-qaa`idatuth-thaalithah
The third principle
` ` `
Annan-nabiyya sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam
That the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wasallam
` `
ibaadaatihim ` fee mutafarriqeena unaasin ' alaa ` hara ha T
Encountered people differing in their forms of worship.
` ` ` ` ` ` `
Minhum may-ya`budul malaa'ikah
Among them were people who worshipped the angels,
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
een h aali s - s wa a ' l anbiyaa budu ` a y - may inhum Wa m
and amongst them is he who worshipped the prophets and the righteous men
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `

amar q - wal hamsa s - sh budu ` a y - wa minhum may , jaar h a - wal shjaara a budul ` a y - ay minhum m Wa
And amongst them is he who worshipped the trees, the stones, and others who
worshipped the sun and the moon
` ` ` `
Wa qaatalahum Rasoolullaahi sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam
The messenger of Allah sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam fought them
` ` ` ` ` `
Wa lam yufarriq baynahum
And did not differentiate between them
Matn Al-Qawaa`id Al-Arba` Page 12 albaseerah.org
` ` `
Wad-daleelu qawluhu ta`aalaa
And the proof is the saying of the Most High:
m l

{And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism, i.e. worshipping
others besides Allh), and the religion (worship) will all be for Allh Alone [in the whole
of the world].} Al Anfaal (8):39

7.1 PROOF OF THE SUN AND MOON BEING WORSHIPPED
` `
Wa daleelush-shamsi wal-qamar
And the proof of the sun and the moon (being worshipped)
` `
Qawluhu Ta'aalaa
Is the saying of the Most High:
m

l
{And from among His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon.
Prostrate yourselves not to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate yourselves to Allh
Who created them, if you (really) worship Him.} Fussilat (41):37

7.2 PROOF OF THE ANGELS BEING WORSHIPPED
` `
Wa daleelul-malaa'ikati; qawluhu ta`aalaa:
And the proof of the angels (being worshipped) is the saying of the Most High:
Matn Al-Qawaa`id Al-Arba` Page 13 albaseerah.org
m ba ` _~ } | l
{Nor would he order you to take angels and Prophets for lords (gods).} Aali Imran
(3):80

7.3 PROOF OF THE PROPHETS BEING WORSHIPPED
` ` `
Wa daleelul anbiyaa'i, qawluhu Ta`aalaa:
And the proof of the prophets (being worshipped) is the saying of the Most High:
m v uts rqponm l

{zy l | .[
{And (remember) when Allh will say (on the Day of Resurrection): "O Eesa (Jesus), son
of Maryam (Mary)! Did you say to men: 'Worship me and my mother as two gods besides
Allh?' " He will say: "Glorified are You! It was not for me to say what I had no right (to
say). Had I said such a thing, You would surely have known it. You know what is in my
inner self though I do not know what is in Yours; truly, You, only You, are the All-
Knower of all that is hidden (and unseen)} Al Maidah (5):116

7.4 PROOF OF THE RIGHTEOUS MEN BEING WORSHIPPED
` ` `
: aalaa ' ta awluhu q ; eena h aali s - s Wa daleelu
And the proof of the righteous (being worshipped) is the saying of the Most High:
Matn Al-Qawaa`id Al-Arba` Page 14 albaseerah.org
m

{Those whom they call upon [like Eesa (Jesus) son of Maryam (Mary), 'Uzair (Ezra),
angels and others] desire (for themselves) means of access to their Lord (Allh), as to
which of them should be the nearest; and they [Eesa (Jesus), 'Uzair (Ezra), angels and
others] hope for His Mercy and fear His torment} Al Israa (17):57

7.5 PROOF OF THE TREES AND STONES BEING WORSHIPPED
` ` ` `
aalaa ` Ta awluhu q , jaar h a - al w shjaari a - l aleelu d Wa
And the proof of the trees and the stones (being worshipped) is the saying of the Most High:

{Have you then considered Al-Lt, and Al-'Uzz (two idols of the pagan Arabs). And
Mant (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third?} An Najm (53):19-20
` ` `
nhu a ` yallaahu dhi Ra Abee Waaqidinil Laythee deethu a h Wa
And the Hadith of Abu Waaqid Al Laythee- radhiyallaahu anhu
` ` `
Qaala: kharajnaa ma`an-nabiyyi sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam
Who said: We departed with the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam
` ` ` ` ` `

To Hunayn and we had recently left kufr (disbelief).
` ` `
Wa lilmushrikeena sidrah
The Mushrikeen (polytheists) used to have a tree

They used to devote themselves to and hang their weapons upon,

They called it Dhaat Anwaat

Fa mararnaa bisidratin faqulnaa
So we passed by a tree and we said:
` ` ` ` ` ` ` . .
hadeeth - Al . t dhaatu anwaa kamaa lahum in t dhaata anwaa al lanaa ` - j Yaa RasoolAllaahi
O Messenger Of Allaah! Appoint for us a Dhaat Anwaat like they have a Dhaat Anwaat.
Al-hadeeth

Principle Fourth The : 8 Part
`
Al-qaa`idatur-raabi`ah
The fourth principle
` ` ` `
wwaleena minal a shirkan hu t ghla a zamaaninaa ushrikee m Anna
That the Mushrikeen of our time are worse in their shirk than the Mushrikeen who came
before.
` ` ` `
Li'annal-awwaleena yushrikoona fir-rakhaa'
This is because those who came before committed their shirk during times of ease
` ` ` `
hiddah s - fish oona s Wa yukhli
And (made their worship) purely for Allah during times of hardship.
` ` ` ` ` `
Wa mushrikoo zamaaninaa shirkuhum daa'imun
(However) the shirk of the Mushrikeen of our time is continuous,
` `
Fir-rakhaa'i wash-shiddah
During (times of) ease and hardship
` ` `
Wad-daleelu qawluhu Ta`aalaa:
The proof is the saying of the Most High:

{ And when they embark on a ship, they invoke Allh, making their Faith pure for Him
only, but when He brings them safely to land, behold, they give a share of their worship

` ` ` ` ` .
allam bihi wa s h a s alaa aalihi wa ` ammadin wa h u alaa m ` wa sallallaahu Tammat
And Allah, Subhanahu wa taaalaa, knows best. And may the prayers of Allah be upon Muhammad, his family and his
companions
