Smoking is hateful to the nose, harmful to the brain, and dangerous to the lungs. King James I
This bimester in biology class, I discovered the main part of our respiratory system, the lung. First than all I learned the function of our lungs, their parts and how they work. At the end of that class, the teacher told me that I had to conform a group of four, I was with Juan Camilo Cruz, Daniel Delgado and Felipe Rengifo, and that the team had to bring animal lung so that it was possible to see the parts of the lung in real life. In my group the materials were divided into four Daniel brought the lung, Felipe brought
an scalpel, I brought a tray and at last Juan Camilo brought some latex gloves. The day arrived I brought the tray and as a team we started to open the lung, first Juan Camilo cut the lung right in the middle with the scalpel, there I saw and touched the bronchioles that are little tubes that carry air to our alveolus, they are hard and small but it was nice to see how we worked as a group to appreciate the inside part of the lung. In my group we had fun opening every part and looking the different things that we
can find in our body. It was amazing seeing all the parts of our respiratory system including the trachea, the bronchi and the lung. This exercise helped me to improve skills like trusting and listening to instructions, because if I did not follow them it was possible to get hurt easily. Opening the lung also helped me to improve and lose the fear about blood, the texture and the parts that are inside our respiratory system and how they all of them as a group work together to help us to do simple functions as breathing.

The telephone is an amazing invention, without it life would not be the same. El Intellectual is a magazine that talks about it. This magazine was a project I did in history class with Arturo Vasquez, Daniel Delgado and Sergio Saavedra. This magazine has four different articles related to the telephone. Before doing the magazine, the articles that we were going to do were divided and at the we join them together to create El Intelectual. The first article talks about the things that existed before the
invention of the telephone like the telegraph that uses Morse code that is a form to communicate between us by sound signals that are produce by the telegraph. The second article was constructed by every member of the group because each one gave ideas to get the article and it is about how the telephone was created, first it tells you that Antonio Meucci was the creator of the telephone but Alexander Graham Bell patented it first so it is said that Graham Bell is the inventor but the real one is Antonio Meucci. The magazine has other two articles that talk about the biography's of Antonio Meucci and Alexander Graham Bell, which are the main characters of the invention of the telephone. This magazine helped me a lot to get to know how the telephone was created, it also helped me to trust in my friends because each did its job and it was possible to create and present the magazine El Intelectual.
Did you know that the telephone was really created by Antonio Meucci?

98% of the people who get the magazine say they read the cartoons first - and the other 2% are lying. David Remnick
A magazine is a publication that contains articles and illustrations. A magazine can help you to learn something, inform yourself about an specific topic or even to help you to do a homework. In English class this bimester my teacher Richard Moreno told everybody in my class that the project for the entire year was to create a magazine that was going to help me to know and remember the most important projects that I
created during each bimester of school. This magazine had to present at least five projects, four articles and three publicity adds per bimester, it also needed to have a front cover and a back cover with an specific design. The front cover had to include the name of the magazine, my name, a logo and a slogan. The magazine had to include pictures and each one had to include a brief description of it, the publicity had to be
created by me not copy paste publicity. This project helps me because I have to study so that I can do the articles, it also helps me to be original and create things but myself, this project is great for me because I will never forget what I did during ninth grade.

Chris Gardner is an African American entrepreneur that was born on February 9, 1954 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Chris is the owner of the Gardner Rich LLC offices in New York, Chicago and San Francisco. He is also a motivational speaker because of the hard times he passed during all his life, he is always involved with homeless initiatives that involve helping women and men that do not have a job. Chris is most known because of the movie the Pursuit of Happiness, this movie talks about Chriss life and what he had to do for overcoming all his problems. Chris had one son called Chris-
topher Jr. that was his only motivation. At the beginning of his adulthood, Chris spent all his money savings in some kind of scanners thinking that they will change his life in a good way, but all the opposite happen, his wife left him because she didnt believe in Chris, from this point all his life changed, he began an internship in Dean Witter company as an stockbroker. Chris lived homeless for time because he didnt have money but he overcame that and got the job at Dean Witter as a stockbroker, from that moment on Chris has being improving and nowadays he is one of the most important entrepreneur of the United States and h is a life model for everybody because it is possible to see that if you really want something you can get it.

Pedros respiratory system is the name of a model created during Biology that represents the respiratory system. This model was created by Maria Manuela Gomez, Camila Sierra and me. The purpose of the model was to show the parts of the human respiratory system and to represent them with materials that could work or that can do the same function and that have similar characteristics to the materials of the real parts. In my
group we did the lungs of cotton and we painted it with red paint, we decided to do it like this because the cotton can expand when the air enters inside our body. The nasal cavities we did them with straws and the outside part with plasticine, the pharynx and larynx were represented with a box, the epiglottis was represented with a piece of plasticine. The trachea that is the one that carries the air to the lungs was repre-
sented with a plastic tube, the bronchi was also made of the platic tube. Then inside the lung there are the bronchioles, in my group they were done with straws that connect one to another, at the end of the bronchioles there are some little sacs that are called alveoli, we made them of sponge because the oxygen can di ffu se th rough ou t them. This project was nice because we developed team work by doing the model together, and this model also helped me to improve my knowledge about our respiratory system.

After thirty years of service to the nation as an army officer and to have reach the grade of colonel in the national army, Henry Vargas (my dad) only has memories and unforgettable experiences that motivated his personal, professional and familiar life. Now that he does not belong anymore to the institution and that he is in the usage of a good retirement, I want to share with you the changes and new experiences lived with him as a family. What do I observe that my dad has lost with the retirement from his previous job? I have seen that he has lost his routine, the strict schedules, the short term plans now that after the retirement he plans better his personal activities like vacations and commitments. My dad has lost some military contacts but he has gain more personal friends that have enrich his life. What has he gain with the retirement? He has gain more time with the family, now he
shares more time with me and he has the support of all the family to take important decisions that can benefit and help everybody. With him I have found new strengths that help us to support each other so that I can overcome problems that I can face during my life. His experience has helped all my family to overcome and deal with weaknesses in the routine of our lives. Because of all this situations I can tell you that I am very happy to have my dad again by my side because now we can share things that we couldnt have before because of his continuous trips, things like practicing an sport, go shopping, tell him my daily experiences and sleep thinking that we are together sharing the best thing that a kid with my age wants, a happy family.
You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them. Desmond Tutu

Flames
An experiment is the scientific procedure we do to make a discovery or to demonstrate a hypothesis. In chemistry class I discovered during an experiment the reaction that some elements can have when they are exposed to big temperatures. The idea of this experiment was to create groups, my group was conform by: Felipe Rengifo, Juan Camilo Cruz, Laura Gonzalez and me, with this groups we had to use five different materials
If you call failures experiments, you can put them in your resume and claim them as achievements. Mason Cooley
and put them one at a time in a wire. We used the wire to put the material inside the fire, there because of chemical reactions, depending of the material the flame of the fire will change its color or size. The most amazing one was with copper sulphate that its flame was totally green. After we did the experiment with each material, we had to write down the colors and the characteristics of each flame. All this information had to be in a lab inform which included other
things that were related to the topic. This project helped me to improve my team work and my observing capacities each time I had to determine the color of the flame

This interview was asked to Yadira Galarza (my mom) Interviewer: Where were you born? Yadira Galarza: In Bogota I: What do you remember from your childhood? Y.G.: I remember from my childhood that it was a happy part of my life because I played and shared a lot of time with my brothers and my parents. I: Do you have any sad memories? Y.G.: Yes when I was a teenager, the moment my dad died and also when my dog died. It was hard for me to overcome this situations because they marked my life forever. I: What did you study and where? Y.G.: I studied bacteriology in the University Javeriana, and I specialized en the area of education, management and environmental quality in the universities Sabana and Andes. I: Did you develop any project that had an impact in our society? Y.G.: Yes, I coordinated the area of environmental quality in CAR where I worked in the project of recovering the high basin of the Bogota river. I: Do you have kids? Y.G.: Yes, one and he is called Juan Camilo Vargas G and he is 15. I: How do you see your son in the future? Y.G.: I see him like a person with excellent values, that he will explode to be a creative, recursive and competent professional. And also I see him forming a great family, with the one he will share time and have fun. I: Thanks for the interview. Y.G.: Thank you for taking me into account for your magazine. The second bimester at Biology class I studied the Human Circulatory system which is composed of three main parts, the human heart, the blood and the blood vessels. The heart is the most important organ of the circulatory system, its function is to pump all the blood around the body. This bimester there was a group project that had as objective to dissect an animal heart so that it was possible to observe the inside structure of it. In this project I conformed a group with Felipe Rengifo, Juan Camilo Cruz, Daniel Delgado and Orlando Cabeza in this group we developed nice cooperative work and the materials were divided in a fair way. At the moment of starting the dis-
section we did a great job, the group followed all the instructions that the teacher told us before opening the heart, after that Juan Camilo took the scalpel and opened the heart by the middle, after that it was possible to observe the two atriums and the two ventricles that it has, John also showed us the atrioventricular and the semilunar valves that are inside the heart and that help it so that the blood does not go back from the ventricle to the atrium or from the artery or vein to the ventricle. This dissection helped me to understand the importance of our heart, that it is the main engine of our body and that without it the rest of the body is almost useless.

Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. Ralph Waldo Emerson
Traveling is one of the best experiences that a person could have, travels always leave you messages and experiences that enrich your life in an useful way. In Math class I developed a project about a flight from Kiev, Ukraine and Saint Petersburg, Russia. In the world map, the difference in degrees between the two cities is of nine degrees, with this Daniel Delgado and me had to find out how much time did the flight
took, we had to create a cardboard that should include the location of the two cities, the difference of degrees in the earth, the operations we used to find out how far it was from one city to the other and at last the cost of a commercial flight between the cities. This work was useful for me because I learned to work with other guys of my class, during this project I also learned about some types of airplanes and how they
work. It was an useful project because I can use it in the future and because the mathematical procedures can help me in other subjects like Physics.

C.T.E
Felipe Rengifo, we decided to create a home building company that its name is C.T.E (casas tecnologicamente ecolgicas) in English, technologically ecological houses. This company is promoting and selling some houses that included solar panels, an inside system that recycles water and some other technological items that help us to take care of our world. During this project, we developed a model of the structure of the house, a selling catalog and an overall price of all the house. This project helped me to learn to work as a team also to know the problems and difficulties that a company has to undergo during the process of creation. C.T.E is an example of perseverance and of hard work, this project has really change the way I see businesses.
Picture of C.T.E
Starting a business is one of the hardest things to do taking into account all the planning that has to be done before creating it. This half year at geography class, I have been able to experience the feeling of being a real business men. In this project, the idea was to create a company in pairs that had to be ecological and that have to follow all the standards of corporate responsibility. My partner in this project was

Slash
Slash is a British musician that has become a legend because of how he plays the guitar. This bimester in arts class, I developed a drawing of a rocker, I decided to draw Slash because of his interesting way of dressing. During the whole bimester, in this class the main topic was the human figure and how to draw the different gestures that a human face can do. First I started by drawing with a 2B pencil the whole body of the rocker, without any kind of clothing, just the body struc-
ture, then I started to paint the accessories that my rocker should have, in that moment I got the idea of drawing him, so with pencil I started to draw his unique hair, hat and style with the pencil, at last I gave him some color and there it is a nice Slash representation. This project has helped me to improve the way I draw the gestures of a human face and also the proper proportion of the human body in an scale.

Global Warming
The facts are there that we have created, man has, a self-inflicted wound through global warming. Arnold Schwarzenegger
During the last years it is said that global warming has increased, global warming is the increase of the average temperature of Earth. Global warming occurs because of the accumulation of greenhouse gases in Earths surface. How do greenhouse gases contribute to global warming? Well the greenhouse gases allow sunlight to pass through the atmosphere but do not let heat to go out of the planet causing the called Greenhouse effect. Greenhouse gases are conformed by the gases that produce
the burning of fossil fuels, the gases that cars create and other the combination of some other types of gases. Global warming has become a major concern to everybody, the poles are melting and hot temperatures are becoming an everyday problem. Because of the Greenhouse effect, different wholes in the atmosphere are getting bigger and the amount of skin cancer cases are increasing making the world think of campaigns that can contribute to slow down global warming, nowadays campaigns like
recycling wastes and of reusing objects are common in our society. Not only campaigns contribute to the slow down of global warming but also a change in our mind because if we keep thinking that nothing is going to happen, the process of global warming may increase and bad things could occur, if everyone puts a little bit of itself global warming may end.

Isaac Newton was a British physicist that is considered as the most important physicist that has ever existed, Newton created the Philosophi Naturalis Principia Mathematica which include the laws that have his name. During physics class I developed a scientific essay that mentioned the relation between Newtons laws and the importance of using seat belts. This essay included how Newtons first law influenced people in their way of driving a car, making them to create the seat
belt, in this essay the importance of microelectronics in the security systems of a car, like the use of airbag, the motor and some other things that help us to be safe when driving a car. During the development of this essay it was also important to show how the creation of the security belts have help everybody to be safe, also how Newtons laws have made a change in our way of thinking. This project has helped me because now I know how to create a good scientific essay, I also learned a lot about Newtons laws because before writing the essay, I had to do a big research about them an learn how these laws can be seen in our normal life.
No great discovery was ever made without a bold guess Isaac Newton

Cheese has become an essential part of our everyday meal, cheese has important proteins and contains big amount of calcium that helps our body to strengthen the bones. Cheese has a special method of creation, the first thing to do is to extract milk from the cow, then this milk has to pass through the process of pasteurization, that consists on warming the milk at 65C for thirty minutes and after this you have to let the milk to cool
down at 36C this process has to be done in a cooking pot. After this process you have to add the calcium chloride and some lactic cultures, this prevents the pasteurized milk to not get infected with bacteria. After that the milk has to be kept at 36C so that coagulation occurs, then the curd has to be cut cautiously and the draining process has to occur, after you finish doing this cuts, some salt has to applied so that the cheese has some taste,
for last you have to mold the cheese and press it, then let the cheese in your refrigerator for at least one day so that you will be able to eat it.

Choice theory is an explanation of the human behavior that was developed by Dr. William Glasser. Choice theory explains that all a human being does is to behave, that almost every behavior is chosen and that our genes try to satisfy five basics needs which are: love and belonging, power, fun, survival and freedom. This theory helps whoever believes in it to be a successful person and to improve each day more in his relations with others. Choice theory states that there exist two types of habits, the caring ones that are: supporting, encouraging, accepting, listening, trusting, respecting and negotiating differences; and the other types of habits are the deadly ones which are: criticizing, blaming, complaining, nagging, threatening, punishing and bribing. These habits show us how a good and constructive society should be. These habits benefit your life because they show you the way to improve by implementing the seven caring habits in your daily life.
Choice theory is a bunch of well -argued ideas that help everybody to understand why people behave like they do. The work that William Glasser developed is important for life and can easily become a part of our daily life. Other thing that will be achieved is a creation of a new way of thinking in our society, people will stop criticizing and blaming when solving a conflict instead talking and listening will be your new way of acting when a problem is presented. I believe that choice theory should be implemented in every school around the world, because with it students will improve in their learning process and at the same time in their personal relationships both with their parents and with other people. So, if you implement choice theory in your life, big benefits will be given to you.
Education is the process in which we discover that learning adds quality to our lives. Learning must be experienced. William Glasser

development of the war were the changes that occurred on 1917, this changes consisted on first Russia retiring from the war because of it revolution and the other change was the incorporation of the United States in the fight by the part of the Entente. This changes made the war even harder and did a drastic change in the way it was developing. The end of the war started by the defeat of the Central powers, this occurred because of the help that arrived from the U.S.A, this soldiers made a change and helped the Allies to finish with Germany. After the war ended, many peace treaties were made starting by the most important one that was the treaty of Versailles, in this treaty Germany was declared as the only country guilty of the war, because of that it had to pay some money to the countries affected and it also had to give the lands of Alsace and Lorena to France. Some other treaties like the one of Saint-Germain and Trianon were created and the Russian, German, Austro-Hungarian and the Ottoman empires divided into different countries. The consequences of this war were a lot, starting from the amount of death people and finishing with the creation of the new powers like the United States and Japan. War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other's children. Jimmy Carter After understanding how the stages of World war I explain the cause of the nickname the Great War. It is possible to say that a war is one of the hardest and most difficult situations that a human being can face. Also that the Great War is the best nickname that World War I can have because of the different events and techniques that occurred and were used during the four years of death and suffering. This war only lets memories and hard moments in humans minds and lets the world know what people with bad intentions and different ideas can do to each other only for gaining respect or for making their will. So was the Great War a good name for World War I?
In modern war... you will die like a dog for no good reason. Ernest Hemingway
