v1.0

1 Introduction
1.1 What is the DiaMond EM / RFID system?
DiaMond EM/RFID system is the first generation of EM/RFID hybrid systems for libraries and designed to create optimal effectiveness for logistics and security in any library environment. DiaMond EM/RFID system provides crystal clear protection for those who require optimal performance and transparency in their libraries. The construction of scratch-resistance acrylic with multi-wire construction offers the most refined design in any library environment. This hybrid system consists of a EM part and a RFID part. From the design of the antenna one can see that the EM-part is a development of the Pentor EM antenna, as where the RFID-part is a development of our former RFID antenna. Economically, DiaMond EM/RFID system is ideal for libraries who want to begin with RFID technology without replacing the EM-tags already labeled in their collection. With both technologies (EM/RFID), you are prepared for the todays and future requirements!

1.2

What are the benefits of the DiaMond EM / RFID antenna?

Electromagnetic (EM-tags) and RFID (EAS-bit or AFI-byte) security RFID tags supported: all major 13,56 MHz, ISO 15693 compliant transponders, Tagit, I-Code SLI, PicoPass. Major EM library tags are supported Fully digital configuration (DSP) User-adjustable audible alarm User-adjustable visual alarm indicator Advanced electromagnetic EM technology Switch Capacitor Filtering (SCF) Magnetic media safe Simultaneous multiple lane operation Multiple gate solutions are possible

The DiaMond EM / RFID antenna has a lot of benefits:

1.2.1 UID detection The DiaMond RFID antenna together with Dialoc IDs long range 4 channel RFID MC-Q Controller can read the unique ID (UID) of ISO15693-labels in a stand-alone mode. 1.2.2 EAS-bit security The DiaMond EM / RFID antenna together with Dialoc IDs long range 4 channel RFID MCQ Controller can give an EAS-bit bases alarm (audible and visual) when using Philips ICODE SLI labels or PicoPass labels from Inside Technologies. The tag responds to the signal from

v1.0

the EM / RFID antenna by emitting a signal of its own. The MC-Q Controller verifies the signal and triggers the alarm. 1.2.3 AFI-byte security The DiaMond EM / RFID antenna together with Dialoc IDs long range 4 channel RFID MCQ Controller has the ability to use the AFI-functionality in a host controlled mode. 1.2.4 EM detection The DiaMond EM / RFID antenna together with Dialoc IDs EPQ Controller can give an EMstrip based alarm (audible and visual). The EM-strip responds to the signal from the EM / RFID antenna by emitting a signal of its own. The EM / RFID antenna verifies the signal through a software program. If verification is positive, an alarm is triggered. Although AFI will be about the standard in the near future, EM detection is still most popular and so used for the security of books and other items from the Libraries collection.

1.3

Recommended antenna setup

The DiaMond EM / RFID can be used as a single antenna setup. However, for better detection and utilizing the full 2D-effect, the gate antenna setup is preferred. 1.3.1 Single antenna setup

2 Safety and precautions

We strongly recommend that you carefully study and follow the operating instructions before attempting to operate the unit and make notice of the listed precautions. Always keep the instructions and the packaging so that if you relocate, sell, or give away this product, you can give them to the new operator and/or owner.

2.1

Do not touch internal parts

Installation and tuning should be done by authorized and qualified technicians only. Should a repair be necessary, please contact Dialoc ID, or contact one of Dialoc IDs authorized service partners.

2.2

Grounding

There is no need to ground the antenna base as the power supply is double isolated. It is however important to only use the power supply provided or recommended by Dialoc ID.

2.3

Keep away from water

Keep the system away from flower vases, tubs, sinks, etc. If liquids are spilled into this unit, serious damage and even personal injury could occur.

2.4

Children

Do not allow children to play unattended with electrical equipment. Children may not always correctly recognize danger.

2.5

Power cord/supply protection

To avoid any malfunctions and to protect you against electric shock, fire or personal injury please observes the following: Always use a grounded outlet for the power supply. Do not connect the antennas directly to the mains; always use an appropriate power supply. Please check the rated voltage on the power supply with your local mains voltage. When the product is not used for long times please disconnect the mains power. Only use the power supply and power connection cable provided or recommended by Dialoc ID. Using a different power supply will void your warranty and may cause serious damage. Do not stretch the power cables tightly to reach a power outlet. Make sure the cable attached to this equipment is located such that no one can trip over or step on them. Hold the plug firmly when connecting or disconnecting the AC power cord. Do not connect or disconnect the AC power cord when your hands are wet. Keep the AC power cord and the power supply away from heating appliances.

DiaMond EM / RFID antenne Installation Manual

v1.0

Never put any heavy object on the AC power cord. Do not attempt to repair or reconstruct the AC power cord in any way. Remove dust, dirt, etc. on the plug at regular intervals.

If the unit has been dropped or otherwise damaged, turn off the power and disconnect the power supply. If smoke, odor or unusual noise is emitted from the unit, turn off the power and disconnect the power supply.

2.6

Environmental conditions

Avoid excessive dust, heat and direct sunlight. Place and operate all units on a stable, flat and vibration-free surface. Make sure this device and the power supply are subject to normal free air ventilation. This device can be operated most reliable at ambient temperatures, see the specifications. After transporting the device from a cold to a warm environment please wait for 1-2 hours for allowing the equipment to assume ambient temperature before connecting and switching it on.

2.7

Cleaning

The cover should be cleaned by wiping with a dry cloth or slightly dampened with a mild detergent solution. Never use thinner or any other volatile solvent on the plastic covers or Plexiglas.

2.8

Installation

Protecting yourself from injury and harm is absolutely imperative. We strongly suggest that before you begin to maintain, install or service any of your appliances that you strictly adhere to each of the following: Always wear gloves. A sharp edge on an appliance can hurt and/or cut your hands. Be sure to wear safety shoes. You can cause serious injury to unprotected feet by dropping any heavy appliances or tools. Remember to remove any jewelry when servicing an appliance. Make sure you use the correct tools and that they are clean and in good condition. Abstain from putting your hands into any section of the appliance that you have not visually inspected for jagged edges or sharp screws. Inspect your work area to make sure it is clean and free of water or oil spills. Ask for help if you need to move a heavy object.

To maintain optimal system performance the system has to be checked and cleaned on a regular basis.

3 Installation procedure
Before drilling any holes in the floor to mount the antenna we recommend to actually test the system with the antennas placed at the required locations on the floor, including the wiring to be used. Note that the presence of metal and especially metal constructions can theoretically reduce the systems effectiveness. Reduce the aisle width to increase system performance if necessary. If the system performs as required, continue with the installation. Attention: The antennas are factory adjusted to work in a metal-free environment. We recommend keeping a clearance of 0.5 meter around the system for solid metal or metal plate constructions. Performance of the antennas is depending on the environment of the antenna gate, and the quality and size of the RFID label.
