ADVANCES IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR PRIVACY PROTECTION AND SECURITY

edited by Agusti Solanas & Antoni Martnez-Ballest (Rovira i Virgili University, Spain) In this book, we aim to collect the most recent advances in artificial intelligence techniques (i.e. neural networks, fuzzy systems, multi-agent systems, genetic algorithms, image analysis, clustering, etc), which are applied to the protection of privacy and security. The symbiosis between these fields leads to a pool of invigorating ideas, which are explored in this book. On the one hand, individual privacy protection is a hot topic and must be addressed in order to guarantee the proper evolution of a modern society. On the other, security can invade individual privacy, especially after the appearance of new forms of terrorism. In this book, we analyze these problems from a new point of view. Contents: Statistical Disclosure Control; Location-based Services; Statistical Databases; Homeland Security; Robotics; Cryptography and Security Protocols; Intrusion Detection Systems; Denial of Service Attacks; Image Analysis; Evolutionary Computation; Pattern Recognition; Neural Networks; Multi-agent Systems; Clustering; Case-based Reasoning; Fuzzy Logic. Readership: Researchers, academics and graduate students in artificial intelligence, security and privacy. 350pp (approx.) 978-981-279-032-3 Scheduled Summer 2009 US$88 48

:: Bestseller FUZZY LOGIC FOR BEGINNERS

by Masao Mukaidono (Meiji University, Japan) There are many uncertainties in the real world. Fuzzy theory treats a kind of uncertainty called fuzziness, where it shows that the boundary of yes or no is ambiguous and appears in the meaning of words or is included in the subjunctives or recognition of human beings. Fuzzy theory is essential and is applicable to many systems from consumer products like washing machines or refrigerators to big systems like trains or subways. Recently, fuzzy theory has been a strong tool for combining new theories (called soft computing) such as genetic algorithms or neural networks to get knowledge from real data. Contents: Considering Fuzziness; Before the Invention of Fuzzy Theory; Fuzzy Theory; Applications of Fuzzy Theory; Fuzzy Computers; Usefulness of Uncertainty. Readership: Undergraduates in engineering and computer science, as well as general readers. 116pp 978-981-02-4534-4(pbk) Feb 2001 US$18 12

Series in Machine Perception and Artificial Intelligence Vol. 72 by Thomas Grtner (Fraunhofer Institute Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems IAIS, Germany) This book provides a unique treatment of an important area of machine learning and answers the question of how kernel methods can be applied to structured data. Kernel methods are a class of state-of-the-art learning algorithms that exhibit excellent learning results in several application domains. Originally, kernel methods were developed with data in mind that can easily be embedded in a Euclidean vector space. Much real-world data does not have this property but is inherently structured. An example of such data, often consulted in the book, is the (2D) graph structure of molecules formed by their atoms and bonds. AGENT-BASED UBIQUITOUS COMPUTING

edited by Eleni Mangina (University College Dublin, Ireland), Javier Carb & Jose Manuel Molina (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain) Ubiquitous computing is the third wave in computing, where the widespread use of new mobile technology-implementing wireless communications such as personal digital assistants (PDAs) and smart phones enables a new type of advanced applications. In the past years, the main focus of research in mobile services has aimed at the anytime, anywhere principle (ubiquitous computing). However, there is more to it than that. The increasing demand for distributed problem solving led to the development of multi-agent systems. The latter are formed from a collection of independent software entities whose collective skills can be applied in complex and real-time domains. The target of such systems is to demonstrate how goal-directed, robust and optimal behavior can arise from interactions between individual autonomous intelligent software agents. These software entities exhibit characteristics like autonomy, responsiveness, pro-activeness and social ability. BIOMIMETIC PATTERN RECOGNITION AND MULTI-WEIGHTED NEURON

by Shoujue Wang (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China) This book illuminates the high dimensional geometry analysis of Biomimetic Pattern Recognition (BPR) and its applications. One important theoretical basis of BPR is the Principle of Homology Continuity (PHC), which offers one solid foundation for BPRs performing cognition instead of distinction or classification to sample sets. On another part, the Multi-Weight Neuron (MWN) which operates relations between many weight vectors and one input vector in one neuron and is more suitable for BPR, is further introduced. The special trait of MWN structure not only makes it significant and convenient to deal with tough nonlinear feature space, but also takes routine neuron functions into account. For a better understanding, several BPR applications with experimental results are given in detail, and BPRs advantages over MWN networks on covering distributed sample sets for cognition are explained. Readership: Researchers, advanced undergraduates and graduate students in pattern recognition, neural networks, numerical analysis and computational mathematics. 200pp (approx.) 978-981-283-647-2 Scheduled Fall 2009 US$58 31

It provides comprehensive theoretical and experimental coverage of interaction control problems, starting from the mathematical modeling of robots interacting with complex dynamic environments, and proceeding to various concepts for interaction control design and implementation algorithms at different control layers. Focusing on the learning principle, it also shows the application of new and advanced learning algorithms for robotic contact tasks. The ultimate aim is to strike a good balance between the necessary theoretical framework and practical aspects of interactive robots. Decision trees have become one of the most powerful and popular approaches in knowledge discovery and data mining, the science and technology of exploring large and complex bodies of data in order to discover useful patterns. The area is of great importance because it enables modeling and knowledge extraction from the abundance of data available. Both theoreticians and practitioners are continually seeking techniques to make the process more efficient, cost-effective and accurate. This is the first comprehensive book dedicated entirely to the field of decision trees in data mining and covers all aspects of this important technique. Contents: Introduction to Decision Trees; Growing Decision Trees; Evaluation of Classification Trees; Splitting Criteria; Pruning Trees; Advanced Decision Trees; Decision Forests; Incremental Learning of Decision Trees; Feature Selection; Fuzzy Decision Trees; Hybridization of Decision Trees with Other Techniques; Sequence Classification Using Decision Trees. Readership: Researchers, graduate and undergraduate students in information systems, engineering, computer science, statistics and management. 264pp 978-981-277-171-1 Dec 2007 US$87
