7.6.5 Motor Controller 7.6.5.

1 The motor Controller shall be of the combination magnetic starter type, conforming to 17SAMSS-515 and 16-SAMSS-512. 7.6.5.2 The contactor shall be suitably rated for the coordinated controller rating and shall be nonwelding under all normal conditions and operating overloads including locked rotor current. The minimum combination controller short circuit current rating shall be 25 kA SYMM. 7.6.5.3 A CPT(s) control power transformer shall be provided in the controller and power shall be derived from the controller. CPT(s) shall be sized properly to supply power to all the control components including relays, timers indicating lights and so forth, minimum size shall be 100VA. CPT(s) shall have primary current limiting fuses and a secondary general purpose fuse. CPT secondary (ies) shall be grounded on one side and fused on the ungrounded leg. CPT secondary voltage shall be 120V A.C., Single phase, 60 Hz. Minimum size shall be 100 VA. 7.6.5.4 The motor shall be adequately protected against overload, short-circuit and locked rotor conditions. Devices shall have time-current characteristics which permit the motor to accelerate the driven machine to full-load speed under normal operating conditions. 7.6.5.5 Class 20 thermal overload relays shall be provided. The relays shall be automatic compensated from 00 C to 750 C in accordance with 16-SAMSS-512, Section 16.3 (Westinghouse Catalog No. BA13IP thermal overload relay with heater or approved equivalent). 7.6.5.6 Within the control panel, control and secondary conductors shall be stranded copper 600V, NEC type SIS, XHHW, THHN or other approved equal. Minimum conductor size shall be No.14 AWG. 7.6.6 Grounding Equipment (or safety) grounding shall be installed in accordance with NEC Article 250 and 17SAMSS-515 with the following clarifications. 7.6.6.1 The skid bases shall be designed to accommodate two, NEMA type two-hole compression connectors at diagonally opposite corners. These lugs shall be provided by the vendor and shall be designed to accommodate a 70 sq.mm(2/0 AWG) copper grounding conductor. 7.6.6.2 An equipment grounding conductor, sized per NEC Article 250, shall connect all

electrical equipment enclosures and motors to the internal control panel cables. It is preferred that the ground conductor be installed within the power conduit or cable. 7.6.6.3 Control instruments shall be grounded in accordance with manufacturers instructions. 7.6.6.4 Ground conductors shall be colored green. 7.6.6.5 VENDOR shall provide an external stud and compression lug at each motor frame (drilled and tapped in accordance with IEEE 841) and at the control panel for BUYER supplied #4 AWG or 25mm2 external ground cables. 7.6.6.6 External, exposed grounding connections and termination shall be thoroughly covered with Bitumastic number 50 or equivalent or a two component epoxy mastic, self priming such as made by Hampel. 7.6.6.7 Where necessary grounding cables shall be protected from mechanical damage ( such as crushing ) via conduit, structural steel, angle, channels or other similar means.
