From The New Testament

Scripture story text taken from the New Testament Stories for Beginning Readers Songs from the LDS Childrens Songbook Pictures from the Gospel Art Kit and Gospel Art Book.

I Think When I Read That Sweet Story I think when I read that sweet story of old, When Jesus was here among men, How he called little children like lambs to his fold; I should have liked to have been with him then. I wish that his hands had been placed on my head, That his arms had been thrown around me, That I might have seen his kind look when he said, Let the little ones come unto me.

No one had seen Him. So Joseph and Mary went back to Jerusalem. They looked for Jesus for three days. They could not find Jesus. They were very sad. At last they found Jesus in the temple, talking with some teachers. He was answering their questions. The teachers were surprised at how much Jesus knew. Mary told Jesus she and Joseph had been worried about Him. Jesus replied that He was doing His Fathers workGods work. Joseph and Mary did not understand what he meant. Jesus said we should be gentle, patient and willing to obey Heavenly Father. We should try as hard as we can to be righteous. We should forgive them, Heavenly Father will forgive us. We should be peacemakers, love other people, and help everyone to love each other. We should not be afraid to tell people about the gospel or show them that we love Heavenly Father. When other people see us do good, it will help them believe in God too. We should always keep our promises. And just as we want others to be kind to us, we should be kind to them. Jesus went to the temple in Jerusalem. Many people were there to make a sacrifice by killing and animal and burning it on an alter. The sacrifice helped people think about the Savior, who would sacrifice Himself by suffering and dying for them. Some people did not have an animal to sacrifice. People sold animals to them in the temple. The sellers wanted to make a lot of money. They did not think about God. Jesus saw the people selling animals in the temple. He said that the temple was Heavenly Fathers house, a holy place. He said people should not buy or sell things there. Jesus made a whip, overturned the tables, threw the money on the floor, and made the sellers leave the temple. He would not let them do wicked things in Heavenly Fathers house.

After the meal, Jesus gave His Apostles the sacrament for the first time. He took bread in His hands, blessed it, then broke it into pieces. He told the Apostles to eat the bread. Jesus and the Twelve Apostles needed a place to eat the Passover feast. The Savior sent Peter and John to get a room ready for it.

They laid him on the wooden cross. They nailed his hands and his feet to the cross. Then they lifted up the cross. They also crucified two other men. The two other men were thieves. Jesus prayed. He asked Heavenly Father to forgive the soldiers who crucified him. They did not know He was the Savior. Darkness covered the land. The Savior suffered on the cross for many hours. They saw the cloth Jesus had been buried in, but his body was not there. One of his friends, Mary Magdalene, saw Jesus near the tomb. She did not know He was Jesus. She thought he was the gardener. Jesus asked Mary Magdalene why she was crying. He asked who she was looking for. Mary Magdalene still thought he was the gardener. Jesus said, Mary. Then Mary Magdalene knew he was Jesus. He asked her to tell the Apostles he was resurrected. Mary Magdalene went to the Apostles. She told them what Jesus had said. She told them she had seen Jesus. He was resurrected. The Apostles did not believe her. Later the Apostles were talking to each other. Jesus came into the room. The Apostles were afraid. They thought Jesus was dead. Jesus asked why they were afraid. He told them to touch his hands and feet. Jesus was resurrected. His body and spirit had come together again. He was alive again. The Apostles were happy to see Jesus. He asked them for some food. Yes, people touched his feet, And of the fish and honeycomb He did truly eat. And there were nail-prints in his hands And a spear wound in his side. Did Jesus really live again After he had died? Oh yes! And so shall I!
After he was resurrected, Jesus came to His Apostles. He stayed with them for forty days and taught them many things about His church and how to run it until he returns again. Jesus also visited the Nephites in the Americas and taught them the same things he had taught His Apostles and the Jews.

When He Comes Again

I wonder, when he comes again, Will herald angles sing? Will earth be white with drifted snow, Or will the world know spring? I wonder if one star will shine Far brighter than the rest; Will daylight stay the whole night through? Will songbirds leave their nest? Im sure hell call his little ones To gather round his knee, Because he said in days gone by, Suffer them to come to me! I wonder, when he comes again, Will I be ready there To look upon his loving face And join with him in prayer? Each day Ill try to do his will And let my light so shine That others seeing me may seek For greater light divine. Then, when that blessed day is here, Hell love me and hell say, Youve served me well, My little child; Come unto my arms to stay!
