The purpose of this chapter is to provide the design methods and criteria to be generally applied for sizing three basic types of process drums: liquid surge drums, liquid-liquid settlers, and vapor-liquid separators, including process steam drums. The methods offered in the chapter represent a good design practice for the majority of drums found in process design work. However, no one method or criterion should be considered to be applicable to all cases.
