My Friends in Christ, Today, we gather as Gods people to celebrate the goodness and faithfulness of God, for He loves us so much that He is born today, Merry Christmas! Jesus Christ was born in a manger in the town of Bethlehem to let the world rejoice EMMANUEL! GOD IS WITH US! The wonderful event that took place 2000 years ago is remembered throughout the world today as we continue to proclaim Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those His favor rests. God has chosen to become a person and be that shining light of hope that brings liberty to the captive and healing to the brokenhearted. The Incarnation is the awesome testament of God proclaiming to the world the depths of His love for us. In this season of Christmas, we are called by our baptism to be disciples of Jesus Christ and proclaim this same faithful love. Every member of Saint Andrew is called to share and witness that love through acts of charity, kindness and love. May each of us commit our lives to generous discipleship in this New Year. I praise God in thanksgiving this Christmas Season for the wonderful blessings and joy that He brings me and my ministry at St. Andrew Catholic Church. I hope this Christmas allows you to have both joy and peace with your family and friends. May the blessings and joy of Christmas be with you always. In His Love,

Father Mike

Stewardship
During this Christmas season the many St. Andrews ministries have been involved in their many gifts of time, talent and treasure. The Knights of Columbus along with the help of St. Vincent de Paul collected food items from parishioners and assembled food baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas for the needy. The preschoolers helped by sorting the food items and the Faith Formation children made seasonal cards for the baskets.

Then St. Martin de Porres swung into action creating all the stars and hanging them on the Giving Tree. Many, many members of the parish were extremely generous with all the toys, clothing and gift cards for the needy of the area. The Knights of Columbus also had a fundraiser with Breakfast with Santa As I hear it, fun was had by all.

Students of Career Connections Academy which is an independent program here at St. Andrew that focuson individuals with disabilities) were involved by moving the food items and stocking shelves for St. Vincent de Paul and retrieving the gifts for the Giving Tree.

The Womens Guild, Parish Council and the Knights of Columbus put on a wonderful Parish Christmas Party with dinner and dancing. The Squires all came together one Saturday evening and decorated the interior and exterior of the rectory for the priests. Before the preschoolers left for Christmas break, they had their Christmas Program The Night Before Jesus with the children singing Christmas Carols followed with a light reception with their parents and grandparents.

The American Heritage Girls brightened up the day at Roswell Nursing Home by Christmas Caroling and the Champs, Edge and Life Teens made fleece blankets to be handed out to families in the area. Many thanks to all parishioners, children and ministries who made this Advent season such a caring, wonderful, anticipatory and joyful time for so many people. Finally, a special thanks to all the angels who helped decorate our beautiful sanctuary with the Nativity set, flowers and wreaths.

December 28th, the Holy Innocents

On the fourth day after the birth of Christ, our Christmas joy is tempered by a feeling of sadness, as the Church celebrates the feast of the Holy Innocents considered to be the first martyrs. Although martyrs die in witness to their belief in God, these babies died to save God. Herod was the king in Judea at the time Christ was born. He was an unpopular king, because of his connections with the Romans, his religious indifference and his cruelty which knew no bounds. When he heard the Magi was following the Star of Bethlehem and were looking for the new King of the Jews, he asked these Wise Men to report the whereabouts of this Child to him, so he could go to pay homage too. The Magi found Jesus but, knowing of Herods heart after having it revealed to them in a dream did not return to him. Thus, when Herod realized that he had been deceived by the Magi, he became furious. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, according to the time of which he had ascertained from the wise men (Matthew 2:16). As Bethlehem was small town, the number of these Holy Innocents was probably no more than 25, very few, in comparison to the number of babies killed by the abortion genocide of our day. Let us celebrate all of them today as well!

OVERNIGHT SHELTER
St. Martin de Porres will once again feed the homeless at the cold weather shelters at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and Central Presbyterian on Monday, January 2nd. There are three ways to help: prepare food (we provide recipes), serve the food at the shelters (only requires about 3 hours, usually home between 8:30 & 9:00 PM), stay overnight until 6:30 am (safe atmosphere with private sleeping quarters). We have the most difficulty finding overnight volunteers, but it is really easy duty. We break the night up into watches, and since guests sleep between 9 PM and 5:30 am, there is plenty of quiet time to catch up on reading, paperwork, etc. The more volunteers we have, the more sleep we get! We try to carpool from St. Andrew and leave by 5:15, or you can meet us downtown at the shelter. Eileen (Helena) Nelson will once again be coordinating the volunteers. Thanks Eileen!
